    - Constant update notices, won't stop! Every time I try to turn off my pc, it keeps telling me it is going to update my pc, but then I get a notice that some Net. framework 2.0 can't be installed. I have tried everything to get rid of this, but don't know how. Is anyone else having this problem? I never had a problem with updates before. I don't know much about technical stuff, and the support sites might as well be in Greek, I have no idea what their resolution is for this problem.     - USB Cell Modem Balky I just acquired a usb wireless modem to connect to the Internet via the cellular network here in Italy. It almost works. The software, including the driver, installs. The connection software makes a successful connection, even at high speed (HSDPA) but it's a connection that is not visible to programs seeking to go online: there is no transfer of data. I managed to work around this by creating a separate connection in Dial-Up Networking or by using the service provider's generic connection software. Now the connection succeeds but at a certain point â?? it could be two minutes, it could be 40 â?? the exchange of data stops. The connection is not lost â?? it's just a connection that is not functioning. I spent a lot of time with technicians from the provider and the manufacturer who denied any responsibility for the condition â?? until the manufacturer (Onda, an Italian firm that puts its brand on a product made in China, of course. I can't figure out whose design it is. It's a pen drive format, the model number is MT505UP) disclosed in a P.S. that the product is not certified for XP Media Center Edition. Now, what I'd like to know for a start is, what is so peculiar about Media Center that poses a problem for the designers of drivers and software? I thought it was just a minor embellishment of XP Professional. If it is known what this peculiarity is, can't someone at Microsoft help these befuddled designers to adapt their software to the system? Short of that, is there any way to change the configuration of Media Center or the services enabled or disabled to facilitate coexistence with the modem? I realize this is an obscure problem â?? but that's why I'm turning to this forum, in the hope that someone out there can put me on the road to solving it. Thanks.     - XP SP3 and MCE2005 not working Just installed XP SP3 in MCE2005. Tried to open Live TV but error is: ehshell.exe-Common Language Runtime Debugging Services Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. process id=0xe28 (3624), Thread id=0xe2c (3628) Click OK to terminate program Click Cancel to debug. Going to settings>TV displays message that tuner hardware is malfunctioning or not installed. Media Center was working fine before I installed XP SP3.     - Program view Hi. A lot of my tv programmes in the tv programme view does not have any informations - why is it so? On different models of vhs machines you can put in a code so that the vhs machine starts and stops along with the tv-program. Is this function also inside mediacenter - if yes: where? I have experiend, that alot of tv- promames are delayed and if I have chose to youse mediacenter programme index I am not getting the whole tv programme.     - CD-R/DVD drive suddenly gives no disc error for any 'blank' CD-R I have been using Nero Burning software since 4 years now to backup data onto CD-Rs on my laptop. I remember uninstalling NTI CD/DVD maker (which was factory supplied) using the Add/Remove utility last week, as my computer was running too slow. Now when I tried to do my weekly backup, Nero says that the CD-R drive is empty. Windows shows a "Please insert a disk into drive" error as well. I did the following in my attempt to resolve the issue, however the error persists: - confirmed that the disc is spinning in the tray - ensured the driver is working properly (via device manager) - ensured that drive letter assignment is set to a letter other than C - cold started the computer - wiped the lens with a swab & alcohol - switched the CD-R discs with a higher quality make - downloaded and installed CDBurnerXP (error shown: No Media) - deleted registry entries for UpperFilters and LowerFilters using 'Guided Help' provided here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 Please note that the drive can successfully read all CDs / previously burned CD-Rs / & DVDs except for 'blank' CD-Rs. When a blank CD-R is inserted, the drive also takes a much longer time with the usual humming.     - 2 Audio Streams on AVI File Playing at the same time in WMC Hello Gurus! I have a problem playing particular avi files that have 2 audio streams. Windows media player plays both at the same time and this results in two different voice overs at the same time english/mandarine! I can play the avi in VLC media player without the conflict. There must be a way of disabling the second audio stream in wmp....? I cannot use other media players because it is vista windows media center which doesn't seem to let anything else be the default video player (i could be wrong about that though).     - Installing Media Center on Windows 2008 Hello, Just about everything MS doesn't enable in 2008 such as sidebar, dreamscene, live mail etc all work on Windows 2008 - but without the slow performance of Vista. I have the install disc for Vista and a valid license. If anyone figures a way to get media center working on this great OS please let me know. A lot of people who have tried out Win2k8 as a desktop seem very happy and even though I really really really didn't like Vista because of the slow performance, I have to admit 2008 seems to do everything Vista SP1 does but at the speed of XP.     - lost outlook contacts after deleting user account I deleted a user account in an effort to consolidate 2 users into one account. At first it would download the TV guide updates without a problem...but now it won't download them at all. I've googled all over trying to find a cure and everywhere goes on about deleting the EPG directory and machine keys...but I don't appear to have them on my PC, or if they are I can't find them.     - Repair XP Pro Hello there I recently wanted to do a back-up and, when asked whether I wanted to compress the harddisc (can't even remember how I got there), clicked YES. That was when the problems started. All of a sudden I got a message that files were being replaced with non-original ones and that I shoudl insert the programme disc. But my laptop came with XP installed. Is there any way that I can repair the OS? I can still use the laptop for most things but some programmes won't work properly and it is generally a nuisance.     - My upgrade suggestion for Vista Media Center I do think Vista Media Center is a great improvement over MCE 2005, but it does need to realize the modern reality that people now have large digital libraries of video, music, and pictures. Apple TV has a good way to purchase new media, as well as integration with podcasting and the iTunes store. Looking at the default options in VMC, I would upgrade it to have the following: Main Menu: Pictures + Videos - stuff I took with my camera *More Pictures - browse shared images on the network if you have a home network *Picture Library - browse your image library *Video Library - browse your home videos *Search - find an image based on tags or on date taken Games - mini-games for use within Media Center, kind of like Mario Party-style or iPod game style games *More Games - buy or download for free new games from the game market *Game Library - pick a game from the ones you now own. *Play random - picks a game at random Now Playing + Playlists *Playlists - tv, movie, and music playlists here, sortable by type (tv/movie/music) *Now Playing - currently playing media and what's in queue *Create Playlist - create a playlist of media, tv, music, movies, or all mixed TV - watch, record, playback, purchase *Explore - free TV shows from content providers with advertisements.     - Suitable Replacement of Sonic Encoders Hi Forum Members: I have Windows XP Media Center 2005(2). My system is only 18 months old and I have spent most of that time fixing the "sonic encoders" within Media Center. I have Version 1 and they are extremely unstable and not very reliable. Sonic Encoders are only available to OEMs and Dell Technical Staff have absolutely "no clue" on what they are, how to fix or repair, etc. I've had to do several clean install (lost track over 10 in the past year) and several "repairs" to the Operating System in order to things working again. Since Christmastime, Microsoft Security Updates have been affecting my Operating System as well. In particular, the Internet Explorer, Media Center and other software?! The Create DVD portion of Media Center freezes and won't go past 2-3%. The Event Logs state "sonic burn error" but I don't see that error message at all??? Having dug around this newsgroup, I see that it's possible to do that, but my boss has already purchased an XP Pro upgrade.     - Black Screen My LCD monitor goes black directly after the HP start up screen and before Windows screen.....I know the computer is not in standby.....the green monitor light is on and when I push the monitor light on and off and then the monitor displays the usual window for 1 second and then goes back.....the only way I am able to get it to stay on is to keep the power on for a while and then by turning it on and off use those bried fleeting seconds to open up the device manager window and clip on the display adapter and it sometimes will go on at that moment or when I hit the update bar. The video card is imbedded in the MB. I have tried an old CRT and that worked right away at startup....after I plugged mine back in it worked to....I thought problem solved....No...just shut it down for a while and back to square 1...I also tried hooking it up to an old laptop running Windows 95 and the monitor had the same problem.....I updated my ATI card and that did nothing to resolve the problem.....do I need to purchase another monitor? thanks in advance to anyone that responds.     - Vista MCE is a POS.... I have tried everything to make this thing work, but I have failed misrably... I give up, IT's a POS... The Video Library feature Crashed all the freaking time, everytime freaking... I select "video library", click... it crashes... the little whurly thing comes on and thats it, the screen never changes... the remote is dead... the mouse is dead... the only thing I can do is "alt, cntrl, del" to end VMCE... Once I'm to the desktop, VMCE never will restart... I must restart the computer to get it active again... But this time I will get VMCE to work all the way up to actualy playing a *.wmv or *.dvr-ms file in the library... and then when I use the "Back" button on the remote, it crashes, but not all the times... and I need to restart the whole computer, again... My library consists of files on my Local machine (Vista Home Premium) and files on two Networked machines (WinXP 32bit Pro & 64Bit Pro)... VMCE will crash as I desribed, no matter what machine I am trying to play a file from... file sharing works great, from the desktop... although I can't seem to share my Printer with anyone on the network, says "users need a P/W" but doesn't say how to set it... All my machs are set with NO p/w and I am the Admin when I log onto each mach... its just a Home network for crying out loud... I have had some success with NOT using the "back" button, and instead, using the MC button to goto the start... but many times when I manuver back to the Video library, to select another file to play... it crashes anywhere during the process... and I must restart the computer again... Does anyone know how to fix this? or should I junk it altogether? Overall, the Vista OS is pretty streamlined and is stable, but the MCE part is a POS... My hardware is all New... and if you need to know: Gigabit P35 chipset Mobo, Intel Pentium D 930, OCZ 2x2g(4g) mem, Rosewill RAID PCIe1x, 2ea Seagate 250g SATAII, MSI NX8500GT 256, 2ea Harppage HVR1600 tuners...     - Black Screen When entering Media Center I have an HP Z565 Media Center XP PC; I upgraded from the 7600 GS video card to a Vision Tek Radeon HD2600XT using the drivers from 4/16/08. Everything works fine except Media Center. When I go into Media Center I get the startup sound, and then the screen goes black. A dxdiag shows No problems found. DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 7 test results: All tests were successful. This is a new phenomenon for me. Now whenever I startup an an extender
session of Media Center 2005 XP , I see OneCare open full screen on my TV and
declare that I have so many months left before it expires along with other
information. I believe it is the spash screen that is seen when I open
OneCare manually (status screen). This is annoying because it takes over the
Media Center menu while it displays this information (sometimes for around 5
or 10 seconds before dissappearing). Is there a setting that will stop this
from happening. I also notice that when I run Media Center directly from my
PC I do NOT see this same behavior. Only with my LinkSys Extender connection.

That is annoying and something I've never heard of in the forums and never
experienced since I don't have a Media Center extender running at the moment.
Can you contact support on this and request that it be escalated?
