    - Record Comcast HD Channels in Media Center I have Comcast Cable and an HD TV Tuner. If I have the cable in to my video card, can I get/watch/record the HD channels (channel 100+) through the Media Center and have the updated channel guides? Or is the only way I can get all of these channels to use the Comcast Set Top Box? For instance all digital MOJO is Channel 664. Can this ONLY be watched by using the Comcast Set Top Box or if I have comcast digital cable service and hook that line up to my HD computer card can I then watch/record these shows anywhere I have media center and extenders?     - WINDOWS XP KEEPS RESTARTING ON BOOT UP Hi All, running XP SP2 for awhile on this box, but recently the PC started a process of never completing a boot up. It runs through boot to the Welcome screen and just as the main screen loads before the icons appear, the PC reboots. I can hear the drive spin down just before that. Recently replaced the Power supply with a new one. Have isolated all devices and checked the PS during bootup and the voltages remain up on the 5 and 12V rails Any ideas?     - History grows by thousands of entrys in only a few days. My history in Media Center often grows to over 5,000 entries (I then delete the history). I have recordings spread over 3, 4 or 5 hard drives, depending on if I feel like plugging in more external hard drives. But even when I only have my 2 internal hard drives and one external hard drive of 1TB in size, I can get a couple of thousand entries in less than a weeks time. I suspect that Media Center sees the external hard drive come online and decides these are recordings that it should add to the history list. I never shut off the external hard drive, and always leave it plugged into the USB port. I hibernate the computer often (sleeping has never worked, with any o/s, on this 4 year old computer). When 2TB sized hard drives come out, perhaps next year, I will be able to replace my 2 internal hard drives and forget about the external hard drive. Then I suspect this history anomaly will not occur. Or I might buy a new computer that supports more than 2 sata drives, and also supports eSata, which my 1TB external drive does support.     - Embedded in comercial, do not copy flag? I have noticed on occasion that some TV that I record stops being recorded during a commercial. By my recollection every time the commercial is of a newly released or soon to be released movie. Just today I was recording a TV show and after 20 minutes it stopped being recorded because of a do not copy flag. But a few minutes later Media Center started recording the show again, coincidently after reviewing the Media Center history and then deleting the history. I reviewed the first recording and noticed that the recording stopped during a commercial of the new Get Smart Movie. The recording I mention here by the way is still recording, no do not copy flag has been triggered. I am using Vista Media Center.     - Media Center Black Recorded TV was working ok on new LCD TV for 1 week. But am now getting dreaded black screen after clicking Windows Media Center. Was ending show when screen went black. Have downloaded recent windows updates as well as download drivers from NVIDIA (7300 Series). Driver download seemed to successfully load but still black screen. Tried to redownload driver but received error message the operating sytem not compatible with NVIDIA 32 bit download.     - XP MCE Disk 2 does nothing and therefore won't install I bought xp mce from frys.com I wanted to put it on my work pc instead of vista mce that it came with. I am defintly not a vist fan and all the other computers on my work network run XP anyway. After completing installation of disk one ( with a few glitches ) put in disk 2. Disk 2 does nothing except let me look at the files that are on it and won't install anything. The first folder shown is "CMPNENTS" all by itself and the files will only extract not install. If anything can be done please let me know, I've been working on it all day and have not gotten far. I need to do real work.     - Guide doesn't work - "No information available" Hi, I have vista ultimate running hauppauge 350 card. It worked flowless for months till my hard drive fried last week and I had to rebuild. After the rebuild, I am unable to get the guide. When I click on guide, it shows "no information available" on all channels. I even manually downloaded the guide by going to settings menu and I tried many times but no luck. Am I missing something here? It sees all channels fine, it records fine.     - guide Code 13 error Semi-complicated set up: I'm connecting from my HTPC to my laptop and out via my 3G card to get the internet, using internet connection sharing. I've tried this several times with many reboots. I've disabled all firewalls so in theory I should be able to get out, but I keep getting a Code 13 error. What port does the guide work on?     - How to watch AVI files on media player Hi, I have windows media player 10 and have had to download an AVI player recently.     - Problems with Explorer I have 2 problems which I think are related. I can't access my disk drive to write data. I can burn a music cd, but not data. If I put in a blank disk, a dialog box pops up, and I can tell it to open the files, but can't do anything further. If I try to access the blank cd from "my computer" it won't recognize that there's a disk in the drive. If I open Sonic Record, I can write data to the disk that way. Just not through windows explorer. Also, on Internet Explorer, I can't get the Flash Player to work. I have downloaded it several times. However, if I use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer it works fine. I'm able to get around these problems somewhat, but it's a pain! Any ideas?     - Blue Album Art Running Vista Ultimate. I had problems with my music library so I restored it from a backup and deleted and rebuilt the Media Player database under my profile. The cover art displays fine in media player 11 but I still see som plain blue icons when I browse the albums under media center.     - MCE Doesn't Recognize WMP after SP3 installation I recently installed SP3 and had not experienced any sort of problem with it, until I tried to play music in Media Center. When I tried to enter it I got a message reading "Audio Error: To play music in Media Center, install Windows Media Player 9 or repair your current installation" (same thing when trying to access the visualization option). However, I already have WMP10 installed and reinstalling it did nothing to remedy the problem. I have MCE 2002 with SP2, though I also have CCCP installed (it operates in MCE fine with videos and before SP3 with audio files as well). Both MCE and WMP work fine outside of this problem.     - Need support for freeview capable tuner card A while back I bought a cheap TV tuner and set it up with media centre. Needless to say it didn't work very well so I returned it and invested in a better one. Now whenever I do anything in MC I get the message "Application Failure. A critical windows media process has failed. Please restart the computer and try again. If the problem persists contact yor hardware manufacturer for assistance." Clicking ok makes this go away and MC continues as normal - except when you click Set Up TV Signal. I am asked whether I want to continue, and if I click yes windows infroms me that Media Centre has stopped working, crashes to the desktop and restarts MC. The new tuner works fine with the software it was bundled with, but I was hoping to use MC to watch TV. Because I get the message anywhere in MC, I suspect that it is MC that isn't working properly. The other thing of note is that the blue ring loading symbol stays up all the time whilst you are in the TV area of MC. Can anyone help?     - Norton Internet Security Firewall Setting for Extender Hi, I've just installed Norton Internet Security 2008 version on my Windows XP MCE 2005 computer, which is networked to my xBox 360 as an extender. The extender is now unable to detect the PC after installation of norton. I've checked that there are all firewall ports for media center extender from the Windows Firewall are appropriately checked. I suspect that the norton internet security firewall had taken over the windows firewall and did not include the exclusion setting.     - Losing Recorded TV Shows, when taking laptop to work I have been keeping my Recorded TV on external hard drives attached by USB to my HPZD7180USD Media Center laptop purchased in 2004 (one of the first!). I use my laptop at work and disconnect and leave the hard drives at home. At work if I start MC it shows NO Recorded TV shows. When I return home and reconect my hard drives it used to find and recognise all the Recorded TV shows on my external Hard Drive. Just recently, 4 weeks ago, I had to replace on of my external HDDs. Since, then MC will not recognise any of the old Recorded TV shows that reside on any of my drives. Also, now, it does not even recognise any shows that were recorded prior to taking the laptop to work. Can anyone help with this problem. I am still running MC-2004 as HP did not allow for the MC-2005 uprgade for my lapptop which cost a lot more than the HP Desktops which were able to upgrade (still pisses me off to this day!!!).     - Media Center Interaction With ISP I recently purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Home Premium as the OS. I have been trying to download videos/clips/wmv files from the internet and none of my attempts have been successful. When I try to download video files I get a small square with a red "x" in it. I've tried tomdownload a wmv file and the web site address in the "address box" just keeps flashing and nothing appears on the screen. Also, I cannot listen to "verbal" programs from web sites. I thought that my problem might be that Media Center was not communicating with my ISP. I went to Media Center/Tasks/General/ Windows Media Center Set Up/Set Up Internet Connection. My ISP is a dial-up connection so on the next page I indicated that i do not have an "always on" internet connection. On the next page I was asked to select my connection from the list shown and MSN was shown (only one shown). My ISP is MSN so I selected that connection. On the next page I entered my dial up password and confirmed password. My user name & password is on my ISP Sign-In page. Following this I was requested to test the connection and each time I get a message "The specified dial-up connection cannot be found". I am told that if the Test fails I should select "Back" and choose another download method. To my knowledge I don't have another download method.     - Live tv problems I am currently running Vista MCE from a new Velocity Micro computer with Cable Card. While in Live TV intermittently my channel changes on it's own and gets stuck there. There is a long horizontal blue bar at the top of the screen that does not go away. Eventually the problem disappears but it takes hours at times. I have already had the cable card company change the card and I have updated all my graphics drivers and firmware for the tuner card. Velocity is also stumped. Please help.     - Need to install the LCD driver In the Device Manager under the Monitor tree, may I know do I have to install the newlly installed LCD monitor.     - record xbox using Media Center I have an HP computer with Media Center installed. I have conventional cable hooked up to it. I split the cable, one goes directly to a TV and one goes into the back of the computer. TV channels display fine.     - Best way to re-install Media Center Edition I have a HP A1520N computer with Media Center Edition 2005 installed. It has been almost 2 years since the OS was first installed and the system is in need of having the OS re-installed. The system is acting a bit flaky and some programs that I have installed are not working well or not working at all, after I re-installed them. (After a crash) I was wondering what was the best way to accomplish this? BTW as far as I can tell it is not a hardware problem. 1. Should I use the recovery partition or use the recovery CD's that I got from HP? 2. Should I uninstall all my software before I do this or just leave it on the Hard Drives. 3. If I use the CD's does the installation program re-format the hard drives? Note: I have two 400Gig hard drives on this machine now One is for data and one is for the OS and programs.     - windows media center I keep having a problem with my pc after running media center. After I use and close it none of my games (even the simplest ones) fail to run. I'll get a message like failed to create DirectX device or could not initialize Direct3D depending on the game. I am trying to run the WindowsDesktopSearch-KB917013-V301-XP-x86-enu installer but it is failing to install correctly. The log file is as follows.     - Vista Home Premium media center lockup Occaisionally when exiting Media Center I get a black screen and my system locks up. My hard drive indicator shows activity but I cannot get any response from the system and must use the RESET button to restart. I am running Vista Home Premium SP1 and have an ATI HD3470 video card with the latest Catalyst drivers. This is a real PITA as I have a 1TB RAID volume that must be verified when this happens and that takes about 4 hours.     - Saving complete program and its contents I need to do a complete reinstall of Windows XP. My laptop is running slow and not always responding to commands. I have had to do this about once a year and the process does wonders, as my laptop runs like new afterward. Here is the actual question; most of the time I can just reinstall the needed programs and continue to us them as needed, but some programs contain information that I wish to reinstall along with the program and not loose. I need it to be there after the reinstall. Like my Microsoft photo program, I not only want the program to run again and be used as in the past but to include the photos that have been added all along. I don't want to lose these photos and I would like them to still be in the groups and catalogs as before the reinstall. Sorry nthis took so many words to explain. The same goes for my Paper Port program, I know I can reinstall the program but I would like the files to remain in the program and selectable as they are now before I do this major reinstall of Microsoft Windows XP. I have tried the "repair" version of the Windows program but it seems to leave the problems that I'm trying to correct. A complete distructive, wipe the hard drive clean, reinstall seems to be the best fix. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite M45 which has been very good for the most part.
