Hello
I bought my Ei-System 304 at the end of 2006 from Currys. It's an Intel
Pentium 4, XP Media Center Edition. I did not receive an OS disk with the PC
when I purchased it, only a microsoft works 8.5 disk. I have read through the
set up guide for the OS but cannot find any information on how to reformat my
PC.
Does anybody know if this can be acheived through the Start, Programs,
System Recovery, Microsoft System Recovery?

No that will not do what you want.

There should be some mechanism available to you to restore to factory
condition. This may be a hidden restore partition or a way of creating restore
CDs but there definitely will be some way as Microsoft licensing requires this
if no restore/OS disk is provided at time of sale. You will need to read your
documentation or contact Currys or the manufacturer of your system.

BTW Why do you want to reformat the disk?

Hi Nigel

I'm buying a new PC and have a lot of odd files on the PC that I don't
recognize and a complete reformat would be great as I'm giving this PC to my
son.

I'm not under the guarantee or any extended warranty with Currys anymore so
I don't think that they will be of any help at all now.

Do you know how I can check if there is a hidden restore partition?

You check by using Windows Computer Manager. Look at the storage.

There are programs to delete files to the point that they can not be
recovered.

Is there any way that I can reformat using that somehow without the OS disk?

Yes, there is.
If you have your manual, read how to restore the computer to factory
settings.

There is probably a key combination that will get you into the factory
recovery program.
Why Not check with the technicians at Curry's. They would know the key
combo.

If it were a Dell you can try Ctrl+F11. I have no idea what the key combo
would be for your computer.

Hi

I can't find any information in the manual on how to restore the PC to
factory settings but I will check on the other information you have given me.

Thanks for your help.

Good catch CSM1! That looks like it is exactly what is required. At 23 pounds
it's a lot cheaper than buying a new version of Windows & it will contain all
the extra bits & pieces of software that the system shipped with originally.
