    - Grey screen when playing both DivX and DVD's - sound OK When I try to play a DivX file or a DVD on my Windows Media Center Edition 2005 I only get a grey screen. The sound is OK. If I play the same DivX file or DVD in Windows Media Player on the same computer everything is OK. I have tried to uninstall all codecs and then only install DivX and DVD codecs, but no help.     - Vanished folder Hello, I'm looking for help. I have XP SP2 installed. No problems until recently when a shared folder containing lots of pictures vanished from the system. I've serached for them all on the PC and they are not shown when i search the computer. I've checked all the individual accounts on the PC (6) and they are not in deleted items (no one has cleared their deleted items for a long time, long before I was last in the folder). The only change we've recently made was having an X-Box on the network and logging on to X-Box live. Anyone any ideas. Thanks for your help.     - files missing in media centre help please - I can open media centre, but when I try to open the photos, it lists the folders, but when I click to open, there is nothing there.     - Closed Captioning Failing on some alalog and some digital channels Closed Captioning is indeterminate with ATI CableCARD tuners and the current configuration of Comcast Houston: (Note that everything was working fine for many months between Aug 07 and April 08, at which time Comcast made an network update) Working with several other users, including an expert I have verified that Closed Captioning, on Houston Comcast, works on some analog and some digital channels but not all. (Re-stating that this is on Microsoft Vista Media Center and ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Turners) It seems to be random, e.g., it works on PBS HD, but not PBS analog, but it does work on some analog and some HD. This test was done using several Microsoft Vista Media Centers, including those installed on a Velocity Micro machine and a on a Dell machine. This issue first appeared in April of 08 when Comcast Houston did some type of a â??network update,â?? the exact nature of which I have been unable to determine. What I know is that Closed Captioning on certain channels stopped working about that time. An example is Channel 60 (analog SciFi) closed captioning comes in fine on a regular TV that has the Closed Captioning feature, but not on a VMC CableCARD computer attached to Comcast cable. Our analysis ascertained that the problem is certainly some type of conflict between the signal and the ATI CableCARD TV adapter itself. It is not dependent on whether there is a CableCARD in the slot or not. I have tried getting help from Comcast, ATI and Microsoft and no one seems to be willing to investigate.     - Vista Windows Media Center & Comcast Hi, I'm trying to set up Media Center with Comcast using a Motorola DCH70 STB. I can do everything with the WMC remote except change channels. One odd thing is when I use the Xbox 360 extender and use the remote on my TV the guide/channels work fine with the remote. The IR sensor is correctly placed over the STB sensor, but it still won't allow me to change channels on the computer. Any ideas/solutions appreciated. Thanks!     - boot loop It's impossible for me to boot my Windows XP system in normal start up mode. Whenever i select normal start up mode in msconfig it checks the /SAFEBOOT box under BOOT.INI tab.     - Does Vista Media Center add any metadata ("tagging") for videos? I'm presently running XP MCE, and would like to be able to add additional metadata "tags" to videos, to help organize and be able to more easily retrieve a particular video... Does the Vista version of Media Center add any functionality in regard to "tagging" VIDEOS? For example, the abilty to define my own categories of tags. I've read that Media Center simply uses the metadata functionality of Windows Media Player. If that's true, then I assume the ability to define additional metadata for videos in Vista MC is still is pretty limited. I already have WMP 11, and while it does a fairly good job for organizing AUDIO (as long as you don't want to define your own categories), WMP's metadata features for VIDEO are fairly basic.     - Stop Media Center from opening every time I turn on the PC I am a beginner here but I can't figure out how to stop or at this point just get rid of the Media Center screen from opening every time we start the PC or just walk away from it.     - Windows XP CPU Usage I am sorry, but the Discussion Group may be wrong - the selection list is very long and I never found Windows XP. I have seen many posts that are related to my problem - CPU usage goes to 100% and computer freezes. I have Windows XP SP3 and Office 2007 Professional with Outlook. Since I installed SP3, i get a freeze almost daily and have to reboot. Looking at task manager, the biggest usage is sqlservr.exe Network Service.     - Live TV & FM Radio stopped working I have a new HP m9360f with a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800 card running Vista Premium (64bit) and 8 gb of RAM. When I set the computer up 1 week ago the Live TV and FM Radio worked perfectly. In the middle of last week they both ceased working. I have spent hours on the phone with HP who keep going through and reconfiguring, etc. I have even restored the computer to its factory install to insure no conflicts came over when I did the easy transfer from my old XP machine or installed McAfee. The radio finds the stations on seek but no sound plays (but the sound is working perfectly for everything else). The Live TV loads the guide perfectly and everything but nothing shows up when the channel is on and then finally it displays a message about Loss of Signal - Windows Media Center has stopped capturing data due to low data rate in the TV signal... etc. Yet, if I connect the same cable to a TV it works fine. Seems to me since nothing connected to that card is working now (but did 1 week ago) that either the new updates for VISTA are conflicting with the Hauppauge card or I have a faulty card. Nothing else has been loaded on the machine now from the original factory install. All help would be greatly apprectaited as I am at my last straw waiting for an actual technician at HP to call back and I guess bring the computer back.     - Building a Media Center PC with a Dell and a Hauppauge PVR-150 I'm looking to take a Dell Dimension 3000 and convert it into a Media Center PC. I'll be doing the following: 1) Putting in a new hard drive: Maxtor ATA/133 with a ATA/133 PCI card to support it. 2) Installing Windows XP Media Center 3) putting a Hauppauge PVR-150 card in it to record shows 4) Using the Media Center application to schedule recordings 5) Using the Media Center application on the TV to show/play all of the taped shows. I want to be able to hook up the following to the video out from the motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882339047 It gives this warning: Please, check your PC & Video Card manual or manufacturer to make sure that your VGA card has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector to ensure this cable will work for you! How do I determine if the video output from the MB supports this? One way is to just buy it from Ebay ($4 shipped) and try it :-) If that doesn't work, I could use a recommendation for a cheap PCI video card that will support this. Video quality is not super-critical because the quality of the recordings is not great to begin with. As long as my wife can watch her soap operas reliably and with a user- friently GUI.     - Blue screen at random intervals, even after reformat I have a question about a problem i am having. I started getting blue screens at random times after having my computer for 3 years or so.     - Hard drive consumption Windows is consuming over 50GB of my hard drive space, and yet I can't come up with anywhere near that amount when looking at the detail of all folders and files (including hidden ones) that I can see. Can their be some huge files or folders that are not visible through Windows Explorer? One concern is that every time I shut down, Windows tries to download several updates, but it seems they never load...as I can shut down again, and it starts downloading the same number of updates.     - Desktop Settings and data migration Hello, I have this problem: 1. all our users are in a WORKGROUP, we must migrate them to an AD domain. 2. after each computer will join in, a new user profile will be created. 3. we must migrate the existing settings and data from their WORKGROUP profiles to new created profile(due to joining to domain). This stuff is stored locally and will stay locally. I know there is a tool called USMT and also File&Settings Transfer Wizard.     - possible virus. Hi I wonder if anyone can help me. I recently scanned my computer using norton antivirus and found a hacktool and downloader virus which I quarantined. Problem is that whenever I use my computer again it slows down and crashes as if it is still infected even though the scans show there is nothing on. Also, whenever i try and shut down the computer I get an error message saying "SVChost.exe DLL application failed to initialize as the windows station is shutting down." Also when I am online in safe and normal mode the internet connection intermittently terminates. I suspect that a virus is still on there... Any help would be most appreciated.     - wmiprvse.exe I'm using XP Pro SP3. I have the file above runing on both my desktops. On both, this file is runing and taking upto 100% of my available Ram Memory, 512k on one computer and 1536k on the other. I've tried to delete the file under processing under control alt delete, but it keeps immediately re-appearing. the microsoft site is usless as I'm not runing any Net 2003 servers or any of the other SMS, SLP, CAP or MP programs.     - Windows Vista and Windows Media Center Up until last week Windows Media Center was working fine for me. It would d/l daily the tv program guide but then all of a sudden it stopped doing that. Now it says download programming data guide, 0 percent complete.     - MSVCP60.dll not found. XP Home Edition 32-bit, 3ghz pentium c2d, 1gb ddr2, 250gb maxtor sata. Yesterday explorer started starting and stopping for no reason at all. Norton found and removed one tracking cookie. Tried installing service pack 3 but Windows Update stuck at the downloading part. Shut it down, and couldn't boot into Windows today. Tried F8, all kinds of safe modes, last known good configs, xp repair console, none worked. Thing is when Windows complete initial loading, error dialog saying something like "Application failed to start because MSCVP60.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may solve the problem."     - Windows XP SP3 Download Failure I just visited the Windows Update site, and it recommended I download SP3, which I was happy to do. Immediately I get a window telling me that the installation failed. I tried this two different times, both with the same result. I managed to find an error code, 0x80200010, on some link. I have tried pasting this error code in every Microsoft (and beyond!) search I could find, and none returned any results. My computer is a 2001 home-built with an AMD Athlon processor (1 GHz, I think). I've got 1/2 Gig of memory. Not sure what else you'd need to know--oh yes, I'm running XP SP2.     - CD Audio no sound I have a TOSHIBA Satteite A75 series LAPTOP.When I try to use LOGITEC new plug and play speakers I have no AUDIO when playing Music CD. I have taken the plug and play speakers to a computer group (GEEK SQUAD) who tried the speakers on HOME EDITION and they worked fine this was tried at 2 locations.They verified that the proper drivers for plug and play are installed.     - Firefox My Yahoo mouseover balloons no longer work, but IE's do Sometime within the last week or so, I've lost the little balloons which appear on Yahoo, when I would mouseover a news story, or a city in the weather module, etc. This only happens on one of my 2 HP XP MCE desktops. It only happens in Firefox 2.0.0.16. Java is the same on both machines 1.6.7. Settings are the same, as surely as I can tell. This is NOT, amazingly, related to ZoneAlarmPro (7.0.483) because bringing that down on the affected machine does not fix it. The little mouseover balloons work on Firefox on a W2k machine as well as on the other HP XPMCE machine. I asked Yahoo (actually, apparently, I asked a computer at Yahoo) about this and got completely irrelevant answers. Anyone have any insights on this?     - Virus recovery without OS installation disk A friend of mine got a virus on his computer, and ask me to try and fix it. I have removed the virus and various trojans/adware/spyware, but the OS is still corrupt. I tried System Restore to no avail, it sayed the restore was successfull but the OS is still corrupt.     - Hauppauge PVR-150 question If I remember correctly, the PVR-150 came in two versions, the MCE version or the non-MCE version. (I may have this wrong, but maybe someone can set me straight). If it is the non-MCE version, does that mean that the Media Center application won't recognize my card? How do I know for sure which card I have?     - Recording Past Midnight Last night I scheduled to manually record a program from 11:45pm to 4:30am. This morning the "Recorded Programs" menu shows it as a 289 minute (ie 4 hours 44 minutes) entry yet the recording runs only 14 minutes, stopping at midnight.     - RECOGNITION OF DEVICES PLUGGED INTO USB PORT My pc has recently stopped recognising devices when plugged into the usb ports. If I plug my camera in I can access it through explorer but there is no indication that the pc has seen it and if I highlight the "safely remove hardware" icon, the camera is not listed for removal. I recently purchased an "all-in-one driver" device for the external connection of HDD's, CD/DVD drives etc. via USB. The pc does not see it at all and I cannot access it via explorer, but if I plug it into my laptop running XP home edition it reports "new hardware" and installs it.     - Solution to problem with entering 2 identical digits on STB where only one shows up. ( MVP Awareness) I had a problem with my STB when I would enter channels with 2 identical digits. i.e., 22 would give me 2. 355 would give me 35. And I asked MVPs about it. While searching for something else on the MS Help and Support site I stumbled onto the answer. It's called " You cannot change a set-top box to channels that have equal consecutive digits in Windows Media Center Edition 2005" The article ID is 896480 It involves working with Regedit but fixed the problem. Now if I could only find out what is causing my #1 S-Video input to flash in small horizontal sections. It makes recording useless. Seems to be a bad cable but that isn't the case. #2 S-Video is fine. Set Top Box is fine. Is there a way to make #2 the DEFAULT tuner?     - The last update screwed up my comp.. Hello folks... I have an HP come running windows xp media centre, in the last security update for it, something happened after the update that screwed up my comp. I get the following same 3 error messages: RTHDCPL.EXE - ENTRY POINT NOT FOUND The procedure entry pointOpenVxHandle could not be located in the dyanmic link library KERNEL32.DLL. ALCWAZRD.EXE - ENTRY POINT NOT FOUND The procedure entry pointOpenVxHandle could not be located in the dyanmic link library KERNEL32.DLL. ALCMTR.EXE - ENTRY POINT NOT FOUND The procedure entry pointOpenVxHandle could not be located in the dyanmic link library KERNEL32.DLL. I can also not use windows update as it say's : Files required to use Windows Update are no longer installed on your computer. then it tries to get me to let it install the files necessary to use windows update or to install them myself, but of course it always fails to install... and gives me the error # 0x8024D007 . when I go to my device manager I get this error message: mmc.exe - unable to locate component This application has failed to start because DUSER.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. so I am kind of wondering where I go from here... I tried to go back to a restore date to an earlier point... but it didnt help at all...if any of you folks have any ideas.. I am all for it.. so please pass them on...all help is appreciated!     - Problem with a USB HD Could someone please advise me on an issue. I use a USB HD enclosure and occationally XP seems to stop seeing the HD. A simple switching of the unit off then back on seems to correct the problem but its an annoyance. Is there a simple fix so the drive stays connected permanently? Like many others, I have purchased the Microsoft Remote Keyboard for Windows
XP MCE v1.0, which microsoft says should work with Vista but it doesn't. The
media centre keys work alright, but the mouse and keyboard don't. If anyone
has managed to get the keyboard to work with Vista, please let us know how.

Microsoft Remote Keyboard for Windows XP Media Center Edition v1.0 works
perfectly with Vista.I have used it and it worked just fine.

But I feel that the mouse pointer is bit painful.

I don't know why the keyboard and the mouse are not working in your
case.If the keyboard is under the warranty then you must ask the dealer
to check the problem.
