MCE 2005, SP3, fully-updated Sony VAIO PC

Error message for any type of audio or video file even though the file is
associated with WMP 11:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the
file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file

All of the files can be played on other players such as QuickTime or Nero.

Any suggestions?

UPDATE from LovesToDance:

I attempted to uninstall WMP 11 which resulted in a rollback to WMP 10 -
with the same results: No file will play, same error message.

If S.Sengupta suggestion doesn't help, you might try posting this on a Media
Player newsgroup. The folks there might have further suggestions since they
specialize in problems with MP.

Do the audio/video files play in Media Center?
