    - DRM - Can't play HBO on MCE2005 Rollup2 Hello, I recently had to reinstall Windows XP & MCE2005 on my Dell machine and I am now running into the DRM 'blue screen' - restricted content' whenever I try to watch HBO. Before I wiped my machine clean, I was able to record HBO and watch it on my LinkSys Extender. I cannot say exactly what version of MCE I was running, but I believe it was rollup2 since I also have an xbox360 as an extender. But since I wiped my machine clean -- I cannot watch any HBO content on my Linksys Extender. This is frustrating, since I never had any problems before! I checked many sites and found several suggestions, which I've tried to no avail... Here are the details of my setup: MCE -- version 5.1.2715.3011 with update rollup2 Windows Media Player v11 Installed KB910393 Installed KB913800 I upgraded the Media Player's security components I checked the 'Media Rights Tab' in WMP and the HBO files are not copy protected. I read KB891664 and I suspect that maybe I am missing the DRM files. Here is a clip of the migration log... I used to be a huge MCE fan, but it is losing its luster for me and I am considering moving to the cable company's DVR.     - unable to open drives Hi, Today I am unable to open my C: and E: drives when i double click on them, it prompts me "choose the program you want to use to open the file ", I tried to restrore but in vain ? i still can open the drives using explore but is there a permanent solution to this problem ?     - Media Center has stopped working Hi, Since about the middle of last week I have been getting a pop-up the windows, Media Center Store Manager Update has stopped Working. Windows is checking for a solution. Also when I try to run Media Center it runs for 15 to 30 seconds and then I get pop-up saying Windows Media center has stopped Working.     - Vista Media Centre won't sleep reliably My Vista Media Centre is set to sleep after 10 minutes; normally this works just fine when VMC isn't running. Every day I put the computer into standby mode at night. During the night it comes on automatically to download the Guide off the Internet; but it almost never goes back to sleep again; so the PC is always on when I come down in the morning.     - how to get a small screen when I minimize? I have bought a Hauppauge WinTV single tuner for my laptop (Toshiba P100 laptop, Vista Home Premium 32bit). At present, if I minimize, the screen goes black then disappears altogether. After a few seconds the sound comes back, but there is no sign of Media Centre.     - media center black screen running premium home build 6000, 2.80 gig amd 64 x2 dual core, asus m2npv-vm1.xx bus clock 200 meg latest phoenix bios, 2014 meg mem installednvidia geforce 6150 display adaptor, acr 22" monitor with Creative sb Audigy 4 and Hauppauge win tv 350 card. When I enter windows media center, screen goes black. Mouse button present. I have tried clicking on mouse, nothing. I hit ctr alt del, and screen brings taskmaster screen, click on tasks, they appear but flicker, and screen stays black around them. Sometimes media player screen will then come up, but will dissapear again if I try to use system. All other video on system seems good, except when tuner card plays tv, movement stutters like slow refresh rate. I think this is from a lousy video card (chip), and I am installing a new card when it arrives. Help or suggestions for black screen.     - No Live TV Recently purchased two HP systems with Vista Home Premium, and couldn't receive a TV signal in Media Center on either. I replaced my spouse's tuner card with a Hauppauge card and it works fine (Cox cable transmits an HRC signal). On my system I have a ViXS PureTV-U 48B0 (NTSC/ATSC Combo) card which has (as far as I can tell) no configurable software. Is there a way to get this card to recognize the HRC signal? Thanks!     - Windows Explorer Colors Is it possible to change the color of selected folders in Windows Explorer? I am referring to the folders listed under C:\ It would be much easier to find a critical folder in a long list of folders if it could be color-coded.     - SP2 install from a CD Hello, I already have XP that came preloaded with the Compaq laptop. The system has SP1 and I am having problems downloading SP2. I have another XP disc with SP2 from a retired computer that has failed. Is ther a way to use the CD in the laptop to install SP2?     - security problem hi we have a laptop which is not connected to our domain and for some reason the local administrator account can access shared drives and say add new folders and stuff we also tested on another laptop logged on local and came up with the login prompt (which is what we want) when creating the new folder we found out the local administrator account on the server took owner ship of the folder as well (which i think is right) but i just need to understand why for some reason that this local admin account which is not on the domain can access shares which need user permissons. any ideas Tag: XP Media Center Tag: 172948

    - Vista upgrade - OEM I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo P MCE 2005 PC, bought Dec 2005, which is used as the family PC (we also have a second) and also a Media Center PC. I'm quite happy upgrading software/hardware and supporting the family with using the PC. I were to upgrade to Vista, is there any reason (eg legal, technical, functional, support etc) why I shouldn't buy an OEM version of Vista Home premium upgrade rather than non-OEM when OEM is half the price?     - Can't remove Mcafee virusscan-enterprise Running XP Home on a Dell Dimension 9150. I attempted to remove Mcafee 8.0 before upgrading to 8.5 and somehow my registry became corrupted and I cannot remove this program. Moreover McAfee is now disfunctional. On the McAfee web site they suggest a very convoluted procedure for removing this program which invloves some serious surgery on the registry. As an an alternative a colleague suggested that I run an OS upgrade to XP PRO and this might free up the registry. I have a slipstream CD for Pro but am loath to do this unless there is some chance that it will do the trick. Other than this problem my system seems to function fine.     - screen resolution Hi Can someone please explain screen resolution to me? I understand when I'm using Photoshop the more pixels per inch the sharper an image will be. Does the same apply to screen resolution? If I increase it, will the text be sharper? Also, why do all the icons on my desktop get smaller with higher resolution?     - Slow - jumpy TV capture on MCE Ultimate I'm trying to setup a MCE using VIsta Ultimate, and configuration runs well and I have the system running. The problem is that when I try to see live TV, I get a jumpy TV capture. I started out with the Pinnacle Vista MCE kit (110iV). As this kit only runs on MCE and I couldn't try it out of MCE, I went back to the store and got an AverMedia card. Installed... and I got the same jumpy capture. This time I tried running it's own software, and... no jumps!!! Is their specific configuration that must be performed for the MCE? Also, I tried to run a DVD on MCE and could not get Dolby surround (even though I have MCE configured for 5.1). When I view the same dvd on another player, I get Dolby Surround. Also, when I try to run a Divx video, even though I can run it on Media Player 11, MCE insists that it does not have the codecs.... But I can't find any sepcific configuration for MCE besides that available on the Settings menu. I did note that the tv capture grew more jumpy as codecs were installed for Media Player. Can anyone provide more insight into this? I am running an AMD Athlon 2.4Ghz, w/ 1 Gb RAM, plenty of disc and a RAdeon 350. Thanks Tag: XP Media Center Tag: 172927

    - Red Screen instead of Video in Live/Recorded TV When I try to run Live TV or play an old Recording in my XP MCE 2005, it just shows a red screen while audio plays smoothly. The same recorded videos play properly in Windows Media Player. I think this happened after I installed an update which sounded something like KB089250 "Rollup for Update Rollup 2" on Nov 4. Once I got a weird error about ehshell.exe that I reported to Microsoft which suggested that it was due to Intel's Graphics Card. I did a system restore to an earlier date, but the problem persists. I have an Intel GMA 900 onboard graphics card on my 915GV motherboard. My TV Tuner is Hauppauge WinTV 88X. Now I am afraid of re-installing the updates. Help! Thanks...     - Media Center 2005 Volume problem Hi, I have noticed that my TV recordings are now having trouble with consistant volume. i.e., normal sounds get quieter. I do not experience the same problem whild watching TV only when I record it. I have an Angel Luminate Tuner Card. I'm using the i/o jacks from my Digital Cable box. Has anybody else had this problem? It sounds like a 'limiter' or auto volume level 'compression' I turned down the volume on my digital cable box. Never had to do that before. I will see if THAT helps when I make my next recording...     - Does Vista Media Center Support Closed Captioning in Recorded TV? Does anyone know Media Center's recorded TV will still have closed captioning in it when you play it back?     - Hard Drive Problem ? Ok, I have a eMachine with MC. Last night the hard drive light came on and the screen stick along with the sounds. I had to push the button to shut it down and start it again....and again within a minute or 2 the HD light came on....stayed on and the screen stick. I ran all the virus checkers etc and found no problems. I did a install of XP last nite and ran the disk checker that found no problems. right now the HD light is on for like 2 seconds and I can hear the clicking like its searching for something, then it stops and starts again. This just keeps happening and I cant get it to stop........it does not matter if I'm typing or just watching it....it keeps doing it. I'm thinking that because I reinstalled XP/MC and ran all the checkers I have that its the hard drive itself that must be bad.......somehow !     - Dual TV receiver and MCE I have Dish DVR 622 which allows me to control one HD and Standard television I have set up with HD going to my Projector in theater room and the 2nd cable going to my office. I'm trying to hook this up to media center and I'm not able to get any TV signal. On my receiver 2nd TV out put is set on Channel 73. When I scan for TV signal media center only show 4 channels. How do I switch it to 73 Wondering if Media Center does support this kind of set up I have tested by connecting the cable line to TV and it works.     - Power options changes by itself I just build a new mce to replace my old. Installed MCE (xp) since I already own a license i did not consider to buy vista. I have configured and made my new box work excactly as the old/as I want it to, except one little thing. In power options/power schemes I change monitor to never, hard drives 10 min and sleep 30 min. I push apply and OK, and that setting is working quite well until mce have done a recording (powering up by itself, record) - then the power options is changed back to the original monitor 20 min, hard drive never, sleep never. If I change it back it will stay so until next recording. If I reboot the system it still holds my settings - but as soon as it turns on by itself to record it changes my settings. I googled the issue and found 1 guy beliving it to be the latest ATI catalyst, but I'm not sure about that - uninstalled latest catalyst/driver and only installed driver after reboot - problem still there. I have a ANTEC vith VFD (and vfd application) but don't belive that is causing it either. Can I hard code something in the register to keep my settings?     - trying to play a blu-ray disc dvd I am able to play "normal" dvds with windows media center on vista. However, trying to use a blu-ray disc dvd, nothings works.     - media center unable to play fixed! i found a solution which will probably help most of the people here as i think even though peoples probs are slightly different, they are the same, it comes from the 64 bit vista, there are actually 2 instals of all your midea players,and each vid file actually selects which version to use,this is what casuse the problem, as even though you think you have the codec you need it could be the 32 bit version, but your vid file may have opened the 64 bit player, and that codec location would probably be empty, there is a simple fix, just search google or yahoo for vista codec pack 4.5.2 (for the 32 bit version) and then search for vista codec x64 components 1.3.3 (if you have a 64 bit machine) these will fix just about any codec problem in vista (the creator is shark007,many thanks to him and go give him a donation!)     - Burning Windows Movie Maker File I'm having an issue whereby I create a Movie Maker file (in wmv format), it saves to my hard drive without a problem and also seems to burn to disc properly also. However, when I try and play the disc on another computer, the file doesn't even show up. But if I play the disc on the computer I burned it from, the file is there.     - Problem with Windows Media Center in Vista - I'm hoping that someone in the group can assit. I have a new HP Pavilion laptop with Vista Home Premium, or at least I've had it for the past 6 weeks and have loved it, however WMC throws errors during repetitive tasks. This is frequent enough that it has rendered WMC unusuable. The specific error is: An unhandled exception ('.NullReferenceException.4313665F') occurred in ehrec.exe [3788]. My product version is: Windows Media Center Windows Vista Version 6.0.6000.16484 The only two pieces of software which I have installed recently are yahoo messenger and Microsoft Silverlight. I suspec that the latter may be the cause. Either that or WMC has just got itself in a twist. I have tried system restore to a point about a week ago with no success. My question is - how can I fix this without reinstalling Vista? MS in their wisdom seem to have made it impossible to uninstall and re- install WMC in Vista HP.     - Media Center shows a green screen, no TV I recently got a computer with Vista Ultimate and went into Media Center to watch some TV but it doesn't work. The screen shows either green or blank and there is no sound. My video card drivers are up-to-date (Nvidia 8800 Ultra) and DVDs play fine. My TV tuner is a Hauppauge PVR PCI II.     - Windows Media Center does not pick up my TV Tuner I recntly bought my computer like 2 months ago and it came with a tv tuner. it was working fine intill windows vista did some kind of update and now Window Media center says that there is no Tv tuner installed when i try to watch tv. I have taken out the tv tuner card, restarted my computer and then pug it back in. the device manager says that the device is working properly. i also updated the driver for the turner.     - Help MCE + X360 Hi all, i'm in trouble trying to connect my Xbox 360 to Windows Media Center as an Extender... I have followed on-screen instructions a dozen times, but never come to a solution.. Searched on internet but found nothing... The network looks like this: One PC with WMCE 2005 hard-wired to a d-link hub X360 hard-wired to the same hub The hub connected to the router. I have also tried to leave the two connected trough the hub without internet connection, but nothing happened... When I try to connect the two, I take the security codes from the Xbox, then, followin the instructions, insert the codes when asked by the media center extender software, click next, then the Xbox starts the black WMC screen with loading circles, PC shows something like "connecting to Xbox 360" and, after some seconds, the xbox and the pc say that can't find the other... Searching in logs found this in DvcConn.log: 15.04.35 : Waiting for security codes exchange status. *********************************************************** ERROR *********************************************************** Security code exchange timed out.     - cant play most codecs in wmc hello folks,hope there is a simple fix for this, i am using vista ultimate 64, i can play all vid formats fine in windows media player, checked that all codecs are there, so from what i gather you should then be able to play all these codecs in windows media center,but no! so far i have only been able to play avi that has not been compressed (i do a bit of hobby 3d modeling and animation) and tv that has been recorded by media center itself, it lists all other videos in the library, apart from mpeg4 but it just says cant find the codec? surely it should be able to play its own microsoft codecs!?     - after AdAware removal its still appears Ran the Ad-Aware SE scan found and deleted it. So it says but when I rescan it, Win32 AdWare.Cinmus still show up (either in Normal ot Safe mode). Its location CLSID \{385ABBC-FB22-4D17-8834-064E2BA0A6F0} which when I go to the registry/location and expand there are 2 items + InprocServer32 - hightlight and right pan shows default REG_SZ C:\DOC & SettING\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\MICROSOFT\PCTOOLS\PCTOOLS.DLL Threading Model REG_SZ Apartment +TypeLib and hightlight and right pan shows the default REG_SZ {385ABBC-FB22-4D17-8834-064E2BA0A6F0} can some advice what shall I do here? I have Toshiba 34hf85, it has HMDI connection available. Toshiba says this
model is not compatible for connection with a PC. Does anyone have any
suggestions as to why.
