I recently got a computer with Vista Ultimate and went into Media Center to
watch some TV but it doesn't work. The screen shows either green or blank and
there is no sound. My video card drivers are up-to-date (Nvidia 8800 Ultra)
and DVDs play fine. My TV tuner is a Hauppauge PVR PCI II. Any help or
steering in the right direction would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Many users having 4GB of Ram and running Ultimate have reported similar
problems.
How much Ram does your system have and does all of it show up as available?

8 gigs and all 8 register. Although there seems to be a performane decrease
with 8 rather than 2... Asus Striker Extreme motherboard, with most current
bios if that helps at all. Thanks.

As it turns out and as I understand it, Vista has trouble running Media
Center TV with anything more than four gigs of RAM so three or less fixes the
issue. I found this out through Hauppauge (tuner manufacturer) and the person
I talked to said that Microsoft knows about it and is working on it.

AFAIK he problem you are referring to is unique to Hauppauge analog tuner on
their 150, 500, 1600 and 1800 cards.
The other card vendors have apparently worked around the problem in the OS.
It has been reported that Vista SP1 does contain the fix for the Hauppauge
analog tuner.

Some users have claimed that the following Hotfix also resolves the issue.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105

The cause of the problem is related to the 4GB issue described in the
following KB article.
