    - Internet Explorer Prompt Message! I am using internet Explorer 7. All of a sudden I started getting the message: "we were unable to save your prefercenes. Please try again" when I open an email in yahoo or occasionally when I just navigate to another page. The error pops up in a box entitled Windows Internet Explorer with one of those yellow triagle on the left and an exclamation mark inside it.     - Want to disable auto rebooting for automatic updates Is there some way you can disable automatic rebooting for automatic updates? After an automatic update, I will be in the middle of running an application and get a dumb msg asking if I want to reboot now or reboot later. In reality, I want to disable automatic reboots until I get finished with the task at hand, and I strongly resent this stupid intrusion interrupting and complicating my work, I want to turn it off in order to retain control over a computer that is rightfully mine and not Microsoft's!! I examined the task manager list, but the names of the processes didn't offer any clue as to which one I needed to whack in order to suppress this stupid problem. Any ideas on how to turn this off?     - Windows could not start because the following file is missing or . I have xp media center edition 2005 on a Dell xps 400. When I boot I receive the following message: windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system it keeps on giving me that message and I can't access safe mode - blah. when I try to boot of the xp cd I get to where it says it is starting up and I get the following bsod: windows has suffered a critical error (or something close to that)... stop: 0x0000007B (0xf7caf524, 0xc00000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) can't boot, can't access safe mode, can't boot of the os disc.     - Vista Media Center and Sky TV (Composite Input) Hi all, I'm new to the forum (plenty of great information around!) but have been searching for help on the above topic for over a week to no avail. I currently have a PlusTV Hybrid PCI (DVB-T 210SE) tuner card linked up to my Sky Box via a composite connection. This works perfectly in Hyper Media Center by simply changing the source to composite. My problem is I can't find any way to have VMC look at the composite input signal. The wizard only seems to detect analogue input through the RF cable, and the picture quality is poor at best. Any help on setting up alternate input sources is vista media center is much appreciated.     - Problems with Sony PCVA IR6U IR Blaster/ receiver I have Sony VAIO PCV-RZ-40CG system with Sony's PCVA IR6U IR Blaster. Since yesterday, one port of this 2 port blaster has stopped working. For some reason, only one port is sending IR commands to the STB. I have 2 STBs with 2 IR bugs. One port of the blaster seems to have stopped working. I tried switing the bugs (to diff ports on the blaster) and I have confirmed that STB connected to defective port, is not able to change channels any more. I don't see LEDs lighting up when I change channels on IR bug connected to defective port. I have tried re-calibrating the STB and setting up TV signal again. When its time to calibrate STB connected to defective port, the IR blaster simply does not recognize the STB remote at all. Two questions. 1) How to I fix it? 2) Where do I buy a new IR blaster kit?     - XP Media Center Recently I had to do a repair on my computer due to several issues. Since doing the repair, I have been unable to get the Media Center to operate properly. Up until this weekend, I could get it to allow me to watch dvds, and then it would generate a crash report. Now, I get: ehshell.exe Process id=0x7b8 (1976) Thread id=0x1780 (6016) Registered JIT debugger not availaable. An attempt to launch JIT debugger with debugger with following command resulted in an error code of 0x2(2) corbg.exe !a0x7b8 I now am not even able to get the Media Center to open. I don't know if this has anything to do with the same issue, but I also get this: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\mscorwks.dll Any help or direction towards fixing this problem is greatly appreciated.     - 2nd tuner for MCE 2005 SP3 I have added a 2nd tuner to my MCE 2005 SP3 box but don't wish to use a set top box (the 1st card does use my set top box).     - Blue screen of death after OS repair Cood day, I'm using a Dell Inspirion E1505 with Windows XP Media Center 2005 installed on it. After a number of virus and trojana attacked my system, I decided to repair it using the CD that came with the system.     - Dual Tuners I have been using MCE for 4 years now. For 2 years I have been getting my HD signal OTA using an Hauppauge HVR 950. Everything works great. I record to one of the hard drives in my system. My system: Shuttle 750gb total memory (3 hard drives total) 2g of ram 2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX Trouble is, I want to record 2 shows at one time. Question 1: Can I simply plug another HVR 950 in and record 2 at once? Question 2: Do I need more juice? Comment: I have noticed that after recording, editing and deleting files, I have to defrag or the recordings get choppy and there will be sound distortion.     - Kworld PCI 120 with XP SP3 MCE Loss of Signal I just bought and installed a Kworld PlusTV HD PCI 120 TV tuner from Fry's on my Gateway GT4010 PC with MCE 2005 XP SP3. The TotalMedia3 software that comes with it works fine, but Media Center does not. It says "Loss of Signal. Media Center has stopped capturing data due to low data rate in the TV signal. ...". I have connected the coax from Comcast cable TV to the card, and as I say, it works fine with the TotalMedia3 software that came with it, but Media Center gives this error message. I suspect maybe I clicked on something wrong when I installed this gizmo, but don't have any idea where to look or what I might need to do. I have many years of PC experience, but am new to Media Center. Media Center finds all the channels and lets me select from them (all analog from cable, no settop box, no digital tuner), gives the correct titles for the show on the selected channel, but produces neither video nor audio. The remote doesn't seem to work either, although that's not a biggie with me. My hdwe configuration is a Gateway GT4010 PC with 1 GB RAM, 200 GB HD, integrated Nvidia GeForce 6100 video, AMD 3500 CPU. When I look at Device Manager, everything including the tuner looks good. It shows the following: PCI ATSC Hybrid Audio Device PCI ATSC Hybrid DTV Device PCI ATSC Hybrid Video Device ... The tuner card's electronics are made by Conexant, from what I've been able to dig up.     - wallpaper I have a box in the middle of my desktop that states, warning, your computer is infected with spyware....... There is no box to close it, and I can not click on it to delete it. See http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1522 Microsoft have finally pulled their head out of the sand (or part of their anatomy) and commented officially on "Fiji" the long, looooong awaited update to Media Center in Vista. As expected it improves the current pitiful support for international TV standards by (amongst others) adding support for 'free to air' DVB-S, and MHEG-5 interactive services (aka. The Red Button). I presume it now also supports DVB subtitles. Now for the bad news. Not too unexpected, there is still no official mechanism for accessing subscription TV (for DVB-C, DVB-S, or even DVB-T). - Bummer. There appears to be no support for DVB-S2. Hello Microsoft - in case you did not notice this is the 21st Century. Already Fiji is obsolete and it is not even shipping yet! There is incredibly no H.264 support!!!! Not only does this completely prevent viewing of any HDTV (even free channels) in Europe, but some countries use nothing _but_ H.264, e.g. Norway and New Zealand. So those countries will still not be able to use Microsoft Media Center at all. My ghast is well and truly flabbered. And the really bad news is that there appears to be no obvious way for existing customers to upgrade to Fiji. Great going guys, what a way to piss off your loyal Media Center users. I have been waiting for over a year for Fiji to see if it was finally going to make the pain of switching to Vista worthwhile. Without H.264 support I would have to say it still looks a waste of time and money. ...any one know what the next update is codenamed? Maybe Microsoft will be able to screw up that (less).     - IE6 Lan Connection with Proxy + VPN help! Hi, I have IE6 with XP SP3. I am at work on a lan connection, which has a proxy guarding Internet access, and this is stored in the Lan connections window in IE. I decided to attempt a VPN connection to my home router (A draytek 2800) using PPTP. This connects and works well, and I have specified for it to not replace my local gateway. This means all local traffic works and all remote traffic works concurrently. However I have discovered that once I connect to the VPN, IE seems to use the LAN connection to access the Internet, but uses any settings specified in the VPN dial up connection option. Because I did not have the proxy put in here it would not connect to the Internet, if I put the proxy in it works fine. Why is IE doing this and how do I prevent it?     - Window XP SP 3 and IE 7 crash Since installing SP3 using the windows update I have had issues with IE 7 constantly crashing. I have reverted back to an earlier restore point. After that I reinstalled all updates, EXCEPT SP 3. I still have the same issue. I tried uninstalling my google and yahoo tool bars with no success. I have submitted several crash reports to MS, but I don't have any idea what they have done with them. When I click the "more information" link it tells me to install all the latest updates - including SP 3. I have a Gateway laptop and would like to try a repair of the operating system to get all my protected system files back to the original state and then.     - Recovering from old hdd in same system after a crash. I had a catastrophic trojan error a few days back. Here's my system: 2 Maxtor sata drives (6l200mo {200gb sata}, 6l300so {300gb sata} 1 WD 400bb {40gb IDE} AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+ (2.0ghz); I just got another 2 gb of ram installed, so I'm up to 3 gb; my mobo is a Fatality an8-sli. Before the fatal error, I was running the 200gb as my Windows drive and the 300gb held all my games, music and photos and stuff like that. I was using the 40gb IDE drive as a strict system swap drive, to offload all the word from the 200gb and not keep it filled. I had an adminstrator account and a Winlogon password... after redoing the 40 and using that as my Windows drive now, I cannot get to the 200gb drive to get anything off of that and move it to the 40gb. I can't access the 200gb at all... Windows has it as read only. Is there a way to fix this issue so I can save my pics and movies and things like that? or do I have to re-do the 200gb and lose some of the things I want to keep? I have installed AVG-free 8 on the 40gb and it found the trojan and some other viruses in the system restore files on the 200gb drive, which is no longer my active Windows drive. I have tried to explore my way to the Windows folder on the drive in question, but when I attempt to do anything with it, I get the error noise and the dialog box that says that it's not accessable.     - Can no longer burn discs :( Hello, Lately my CD/DVD writer drive has been unable to complete a disc burn. I've been trying it with two different brands of blank discs that used to work just fine before, so I'm confident the blank discs are okay. I've also been attempting to burn with two different kinds of programs: RecordNow! and CDBurnerXP, and both are experiencing the same problem. The disc (in this case a DVD) will begin to write as normal until it reaches between 10 and 20% on the progress bar, at which point it fails (RecordNow ejects the disc with an error and CDBurnerXP simply freezes up). My usual protocol for burning discs has always been to run Ad-Aware to clear away any hidden adware and to uncheck anything unnecessary out of MSCONFIG so the software can operate in peace.     - welcome screen keyboard layout My problem is not serious but annoying. I have set as default keyboard layout the one called Polish-programmers. And almost everything works Ok despite after power on my computer. For the first logon after power on the keyboard layout is always switched to Polish. I am Polish so it doesn't look like a problem but it is. The Polish keyboard layout is very rarely used only by people who used typewriters and almost every younger computer user uses layout called Polish-programmers ( based on American keyboard layout). Until I found what was happening I even locked my acoount because of it. After first logon on any acoount the layout works acoording to windows system setting i.e if I set Americacn it is American. For example if I logoff or switch users I have to use windows-based keyboard layout for the next logging in. The probelm returns only after rebotting the computer.     - Uncontrollable Remote Help..Please I have reset IR button form DishNetwork remote, set it for 4 number entree then too three three number entree,,,tried every configuration i can think of.....but when I use the media center remote let say I want to go to NFL channel 154 it shows 1 going in, then ships the 5 and returns to channel 4. lets say I push 118 A&E, it show 1 then the 1 and 8 then jumps back to 4, but if I enter Sirius radio channel 6001 it changes no problem! Anyone got an idea how to fix this (yes I tried 0154 and it jump to channel 4)... I like to use my Media Center like a TIVO but it always goes to channel four, even when I select record time program off the guide, when it comes time to record it show it changing channels and then jump to channel 4....Help please football season coming and I work weekends.     - Media Center will not work Media Center will not start. If I try to start it, an error message saying "The app failed to initialize properly. Click OK to terminate" pops up. But the really annoying thing is that every five minutes or so I get a message saying that the MC Scheduler Service has encountered a problem and needs to close and "sorry for the inconvenience" it needs to shut down (Â¿who started it, in the first place?). My Control Panel > admin services is empty. My Control Panel > scheduled tasks is empty. I downloaded MC updates but I get messages saying that these updates are not designed for my version. I cannot find my version because MC won't start. I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 in an HP Pavillion dv6119us, which, as often reported, has already crashed and needed to be restored.     - Some music can't be found or played on media center Hello. Just switched over to Windows Media Center and so far I really like it. The only boggle I have so far is when I set the program to do an automatic search of all my mp3s and sort them in the library, some artists, albums, or songs were not picked up. And sometimes an album might be found but only 3 out of the 15 songs were logged in the library. I tried to re-run the search, but it says it already did it once and I can't find the button that says, "Well do it again!" I like to listen to an entire album and not just certain songs. Hey, I wanted to know how to hide pictures I don't want displayed on Media
Center but not permanently delete off my PC. Any help is appreciated.
