I have windows xp media center home edition that I bought in 2004.
I need media player v.11 but it tells me I need XP 2005 or later. I went
thru all the upgrades I could find but still I can't get the media player
v.11 .
Is there an upgrade or did Windows leave me hanging?
I appreciate any help thank you.

Media Center was never sold as a retail product, only as an OEM to be
preinstalled on purchased PC's. So no "over-the-counter" upgrade was ever
available. Some PC makers offered a 2004 > 2005 upgrade, depending on when
you purchased your PC. You could try contacting your PC maker an see if an
upgrade is available, although that is unlikely since it came out over 3
years ago.

Otherwise, the only way to get 2005 is buy an OEM copy (~$120) and do a
clean install.

Get the OEM copy from here:-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116049

Now as suggested earlier perform a Clean install.
