I have a Vista Computer with a TV Tuner card and a Dish625 DVR. When I set
up Media Center I connected the DVR to the computer with an S video cable
and standard audio cables. I can watch and record TV but the IR sensor does
not recognize my DVR and I cannot change channels trough Media Center. If I
set up Media Center to use a rooftop antenna everything works properly so
ther equipment is not defective. There was a patch for this problem with
other brand boxes for XP Media Center but I can't find one for Vista. Any
suggestions?

As a footnote Media Center would not finish setup unless I told it my DVR
workd with the IR blaster, so I had to lie about that.

If you lied about the Set top working with the IR blaster, how do you think
MCE can control the box?

You must have the Microsoft Remote control and the included USB IR
transceiver with the IR 'bugs' you paste on the front of the Settop box.

I lied because I couldn't get the IR blaster to work with any of the codes
listed under Dish, Dishpro or Echostar. If I then said none of them work my
only option was to cancel Media Center setup. For some reason Gates and
Company will not let Media Center set up without some IR working, which is
stupid, I would like to get the channel guide synchronized with what I am
actually watching.

How about the MCE code learning mode. Could your Dish remote control teach
the MCE computer to send the correct codes?

The learning of the remote codes requires that the dishnetwork remote
control be about three inches from the transceiver.

It does not work correctly if you have the transmitting remote too far away.

I could not get theIR Blaster to work from the keyboard. I tried manually
programming my Dish remote. The instructions said to hold the remote up
against the tranceiver and then push buttons on the remote as directed. It
said push 1, and then it said release. Nothing. BAck to push 1, release,
nothing. After being told 50 times to do this, always with the same result,
and seing that there were about 11 steps and I couldn't get past the first
one I gave up.

Incidently, my nephew (he builds computers) said perhaps the IR blaster is
defective. I set up the system to work with my roof antenna and my TV
directly and everything works as it's supposed to, so there is no hardware
issue. I called Dish and they said my receiver is a DishPro plus, which is
not one of the brand choices. Since Slingbox list my receiver model as
working with its IR blaster there's no reason it shouldn't work with
Microsoft"s.

There are some remotes the MCE can not see, You shoud have the transmitting
remote about three inches away from the transceiver, not against it.

You can tell if the transceiver is receiving an IR signal from the remote,
the red light comes on when an IR signal is present.
