I recently had to format my HDD and reinstall the operating system. I have
made no hardware changes and the TV tuner PCI card shows up in the device
manager and I can view four (all BBC) channels through it. However, before
the reinstall, I could view all the channels available on Freeview but now a
scan shows no channels found. All the connections are good, as I can view TV
using the PCI card's bundled software but when I select Live TV in Media
Centre nothing happens. Any ideas where I have gone wrong please?

I recently set up my TV signal in WMC via Tasks -> Settings -> TV -> Set Up
TV Signal.

If I chose Analog, I get a handful of channels and nothing in the Scanned Services.

If I chose DVB-T, then I get 25 channels in the Scanned Services (Digital,
HD, EPGs etc.)

I don't understand. You say "I can view four (all BBC) channels " but you also
say "when I select Live TV in Media Centre nothing happens". Which is it?

Useful data to help diagnose your problem would be the type of TV tuner card
(Manufacturer & model) & what version of the driver are you using.

Hi Big LN and Nigel,

Thank you for your replies.

I tried your suggestion Big LN, set the selection to Digital Terrestrial and
rescanned but still returned "Scanning: 100% done (0 service(s) found)".

In reply to Nigel, I read through my original question again and realised I
didn't word it very plainly - my apologies.
The PCI TV Tuner installed on the PCI slot of the PC's motherboard is
described in Device Manager as a 'DTV-DVB 3056, Hybrid Capture Device', the
driver date being 30/08/2005 and driver version 1.3.3.1. It appears to be
manufactured under the name DIGITALTV. If I install the TV viewing software
that came bundled with the PCI TV Tuner card, I can pick up 4 BBC channels,
as on the previous installation.
However, unlike the previous installation, I can not get Media Centre to
pick up ANY TV channels - prior to formatting the HDD and reinstalling the OS
I was able to view all the channels I can through my TV in the living room,
on my PC upstairs using the Live TV option in MCE. Both the PC and the TV in
the living room are connected to the same external aerial with the signal
amplified between the aerial and the outlet sockets. I'm naively presuming
that if I can view a number of channels, albeit limited to four BBC channels,
using the bundled TV viewing software that this is not a hardware issue.
The only 'component' that appears to have changed is MCE's ability to
pick-up TV channels and continually recommends I 'Check connections' - those
same connections that allow me to view the limited number of channels using
the bundled software.
Hopefully this has cleared up any confusion from my original posting.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

If running MCE2005 what MCE DVD/MPEG2 decoder software did you install after
you rebuilt your system?
You can use the following utility to insure that one is installed correctly:

That TV Tuner card appears to be a Twinhan AD-TP500(3056) the latest version of
the driver is V1.3.3.10 dated 14-02-2007 which appears rather newer than yours.
I suggest that you download & install this version & report back.

You will find the driver here

Nigel,

I followed your instructions, thank you, and now have the later driver
installed for the PCI TV tuner card.
Unfortunately, following a scan I still get the screen showing 100% scan, 0
services and the rather unhelpful comment - No services were found. Please
check if your antenna and connections are installed properly - which
presumably they are if I can get the bundled software to pick up, albeit
limited, channel listings?

It could be that you have a poor signal as you are only finding 4 channels
with the provided software rather than the full set of Freeview channels. Are
you splitting the cable from the aerial with a TV?

DVB-T TV tuner card for MCE by Phil

Phil

Nigel,

The signal is collected from the aerial on the roof and routed through an
amplifier with a seperate coax running from this amplifier to each aerial
outlet throughout the house. I have no more, or no less, channels available
through the bundled software than I did before. TV reception on standard TV
equipment throughout the house has not altered. The only thing that appears
to have changed is MCE ability to 'recognise' the TV tuner card and use the
signal it collects. Prior to this reinstallation I could view over 20
channels using the Live TV function of MCE, all the same channels that are
available on Freeview to the other TVs in the house.
Could it be that my reinstallation coincided exactly with a change in signal
strength? Seems a bit unlikely, however, with a coincidence like that perhaps
I should check my lottery tickets more carefully!

Can you play a DVD without problems using MC?
It certainly appears that your MC TV setup is confused about what region
and/or postal code you are in for receiving Digital signals. Do you have any
problems when going through the MC TV setup other then when it scans it does
not find anything?

Good evening Curious,

I've just checked and popping a DVD in the drive brings up the dialog box
asking which action I would like to perform. If I select play DVD in Media
Centre the film begins along with the soundtrack.
When I'm setting up MCE immediately prior to scanning for services I enter
my postcode and the transmitter options returned are those I'd expect to see,
ranging from one 2 miles away to one that's possibly 30 miles or so as the
crow flies.
I have read a bit about the whole analog/digital problem. Could that have
anything to do with the problems I'm experiencing and if it has how might I
change these settings?

Your help is greatly valued.

So what happens when you select one of the digital transmitter options? If
that one does not work what happens if you select the other?

The postcode that you enter only ensures that you get given the correct
programme guide for your area it does nothing about actually selecting the
transmitter. This can actually lead to a problem (which I doubt is yours but
worth trying none the less) in that Media Center can lock on to a distant &
weaker transmitter. It is possible to edit the registry to limit scanning to
just the 6 multiplexes of your local transmitter. This has the side effect of
drastically reducing the time to perform a full scan. There is a detailed
description of how to do it here

Phil, Search "AAron Stebner's Weblog". You will find more useful
information on MCE than anywhere else on the net.

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/10/04/477142.aspx

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/tags/Windows+Media+Center+-+General/default.aspx

You will find links to utilities that confirm all of your MCE
utilities are working, from decoders onward.

I screwed around for months, and Aaron had it fixed up overnight.

YMMV, Good luck,

i have recently bought a toshiba tv tuner and ihad two otions installing the
software
1.install savvy tv
2.MCE driver
i went on with the savvy tv but the software is not the best that you can
expect.
you cant have any alternatives with zoom modes or organize or rename tv
stations so i tried to do so with the media center but i only get the dvb
stations and no analog ones.
is there something i can do about it?
I run vista proffesional edition on a toshiba satellite laptop
