disconnecting the phone cord.

I need to fax from the PC. I just want to turn off the ringing audio.
Turning the volume off on the modem does not work,

I strongly think that the fax modem works much like a plain old telephone,
you can not turn off the ringer.

The only way would be to unplug the phone line. Or turn off the fax.

HP makes a multi-function machine, that is a scanner, fax and printer. If
the fax is turned off, no ringing.

That varies slight by each modem and OS, more information would be helpful.
However generally, go into Control Panel and choose the Phones and Modems
settings, choose the Modems tab, and check the properties for your modem,
there should be some volume and/or speaker controls. Some modems have there
own proprietary programs to change modem settings.

BTW, this really isn't a Media Center specific question, in the future this
type of question would be better posted on a "General" forum for what ever
OS you are running.

I was able to get it to stop ringing before, but I can't remember how. I
thought it was just by going into the modem and turning off the dial tone
volume.
