Doing my first real computer build and I guess I'm rusty on how to get the
Windows CD to boot. Purchased Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. however
I guess the CD-Rom doesn't recognize it as a bootable. I've update both the
bios and the harddrive with the appropriate software from CD's I made on
another computer and the new build recognized both just fine. I've also
selected the CD as the boot disk in the bios. The screen just says to load a
CD and press a key but the CD's are already there. And, pressing the key
again just gets the same respons. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for anyone
that might be able to help.

Are you sure your Windows CD is bootable? As an experiment, try it on
another computer.

To me it sounds like you've done everything correctly - unless you
didn't set the CD as the *first* boot drive :-)

I agree, I don't think it's a bootable CD from what little bit I know. I did
try it on another computer and did a cold start and it didn't boot there
either. However, once I booted up into XP on the old computer it did read
the CD correctly. I must need something else, just can't figure out what it
is. The DVD/CD drive was set as the bootup drive. Do you, or anyone know,
should the HD boot up to the C: prompt? It doesn't, but I'm assuming they
don't come from the mfg with DOS on them. Aaarrrrgh! I'm getting a real
big headache.

Wow, what a dunce cap I am. The answer is pretty close to asking the person
if they have the computer plugged in when they complain that it won't come
on. Media Center Edition comes with THREE disks. I picked off the top one
which said Disk 1 and in much smaller writing "Updates for 2005". Once I
installed the correct Disk 1, I'm on the road again.

That's good - I was pretty much out of ideas :-)

There's nothing like computers to deflate one's ego.

The odds are you've helped someone else by reporting this, and besides,
it's really not all that dumb.
