    - Suggested improvements for Media Center (Vista) I have recently built a Vista Home Premium system primarily for Media Center. I have ripped ~600 CD's and overall I am pretty happy with Media Center but there certainly is room for improvement. I would like to see is the ability to display artists from albums tagged as Soundtrack or Various Artists. For example if I go into Media Center and display my music by artist none of the artists from these CD's is displayed. But if I click on an artist and it brings up an option to display albums or songs if I select songs you can see songs that are from soundtracks for example (assuming that artist is on said album). I realize this could greatly expand the artist list if you have numerous compilation albums but it would make it easier to access this type of information. My biggest complaint is there is no way, that I can see, to manage playlists with Media Center. I would like to easily add tracks to playlists while they are playing in Media Center and that doesn't appear to be possible. Also it's not easy to delete tracks and their associated files while playing them in Media Center. I must drill down to the album and the track before I can delete the track.     - RECORDING QUESTION... I have noticed that many people record TV shows. They are then uploaded to the web or the newsgroups or even the bit torrent sites. The shows look great and what I have seen is that they are almost always maybe 99% of them Xvid or Dvix format. Does anyone know how this is done? Can this be done in Vista Media Center? I thought that VMCE only recorded in the dreaded dvr-ms format. If I am wrong can anyone show me how to record in Xvid or Dvix via VMCE.     - blue background to desktop icons I have had this occur twice: Suddenly for no apparent reason a blue coloured box appears behind the names of the desktop icons and the letters turn to black. I have read all the solutions posted in the past - but none of them worked. Finally I right clicked on the desktop and went into the desktop tag. Then I went into the drop arrow for the colours - it was blue. I clicked on "other" and moved the arrow up to the very top, i.e. "no colour" and all the icons reverted to the previous display; i.e. no coloured box and white letters for the names of the respective sortcuts.     - Does not Detect Cable Hello, I know this has been asked a dozen times before so I will point out the following: My driver is up to date, I do have an MPEG-1/2/4 support for analog and 2 for digital, and I have every codec known to man, I use CCCP. I am running a Toshiba Satlite U305-s107, dual core, Vista Home Premium, two gigs of ram, and my tuner card is AVer Media- AverTV Hubrid NanoExpress (HC82 ATSC). So, it says that I only have an antenna signal, but all I have is a cable plugged in. I have spent the past two hours messing around with WMC trying to get it to understand that I want it to go cable and it refuses to detect the cable connection. I went through the set-up procedures for "Pictures & Video", the folders are displayed but none of the pictures or videos in them. I can view one video (*.wmv).     - How can I play music by folder? I find the playlist feature EXTREMELY annoying. Nearly everyone with music has it sorted by folders/artist/genre and I'd like to simply play one folder or another without having to go in and create a playlist for it every time.     - How do I use an AV Receiver with the Windows Media Center? G'day, I get my TV signal via an AV Receiver. I have this plugged into my PC's tuner card using the AV Receiver's RCA plugs (yellow, red, white). What options in the Windows Media Center do I use to get the TV working? If I choose Cable or Satellite, then I can see the picture in the small setup box but the setup fails as it says I need to connect the IR. There is no where to connect the IR to the AV Receiver.     - XMRadio in Vista Media Center....does not play I am really at my wit's end with this. I have Vista Ultimate and a Linksys DMA2200. I am unable to play the XMRadio link within Media Center. It loads properly but there is no activation of the Media Player toolbar at the botton. I have a second computer at work running the same setup and it works fine. I used to be able to have XM palying but I needed to reformat the HD and reinstall everything. Now I have reinstalled everything three times and there is no solution available. I have contacted Dell, Microsoft, XMRadio, and Linksys. It is like the keystone cops with fingers pointing all directions. There needs to be some type of control installed within Media Center and is not. The XMRadio link works great in Internet Explorer and also on the sidebar within a gadget.     - Will not let me delete a select few videos that I've downloaded! Hi, There are seven files that I've downloaded (videos) that will not play, so I want to delete them. When I right click on these specific files, delete is not in the list of options as it always is. The Problem IS: I have added several network folders to my Video Library collection in Vista MCE (Home Premium), and when these network resources are NOT available, It takes VMCE an extreamly longtime to access the video library collection. I have already STOPPED watching these network folders and they no longer show as being watched, but the folders still appear in the Library collection, when those network resources ARE available. In Win XP it was simple just hold the <shift> key when closing the window and the new size was remembered until changed next... 4- How do I Force recorded TV shows to be saved with filenames such as "series Name, Episode Name, ch #, network name, etc... Under WinXP MCE I could use a program called "MCE 2005 Customizer" to do this, but it doesn't work under Vista and the program writer is nlonger supportting it...     - Still no thumbnails in recordedTV I have a new install (recent rebuild) of Vista x64 Ultimate and do not get thumbnails for recorded TV.     - Xbox Not Connected in Media Center Extender I've had my xbox 360 linked to my computer for a while now and it's worked fine. I turned on media center through my 360 one day and it froze at the loading screen. I checked my media center extender settings on my computer and it says my xbox is not connected. Can't seem to figure out why. Is there another post someone can refer me to or help me troubleshoot what is keeping my xbox from connecting to my computer? I've Uninstalled MC extender along with .net framework 1.1 etc. Reinstalled, still can't connect to my xbox even when setting up a new connection. Extender is not blocked by my firewall and the proper ports have been opened. Just ran into this similar problem when I installed XP SP3 and had to manually intall a missing hotfix that was keeping media center extender from being installed and working properly.     - Applications running on XP with SP3 Several applications including all of the Office 2003 suite do not leave memory when shutdown. Some applications will not restart until they are killed in the task manager. Firefox used to do it, but the latest version has stopped the problem. However Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 does, as does Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. IE has never done this in any of its iterations. This also happened in XP SP2 so upgrading to SP3 did not help. If I start and shutdown one of the offending apps a number of times all of the copies remain in memory and really slow things down. This happened after a series of upgrades were carried out automatically, but i cannot determine which sequence of upgrades started the problem. I would like blue ray; I have seen they not make blue ray playes that can
be installed internal to a PC (not sure if they record). I presume that I
could install a blue ray play in the vitsa MCE computer, and thus play blue
ray on the TV. Is that correct? Is there a better way to do blue ray?

I am not sure I understand your question but if you were indeed asking if
you could install a Blue Ray player/burner in your new computer the answer
is: "Yes, you can, if you can afford it. At least three or four companies
sell drives in the $250-$300 price range. Take a look at www.newegg.com or
at some other well-stocked vendors website. At least one company makes a
drive which only reads Blue Ray but reads/burns standard DVDs".

Yes you can purchase an internal Blu-Ray drive, they internal player only,
and Blu-Ray burner drives. Neither XP Media Center nor Vista Media Center
can play Blu-Ray disk from within Media Center. You need to purchase an
software player lilke PowerDVD Ultra or WinDVD.

If you intend to play Blu-Ray disk you need an HDCP compliant video card,
and a HDCP compliant TV/Monitor to play movies at 1080P HD resolution
