increase resource memory on Windows XP

I think there are times when the computer's memory is still not used
up, but the Windows resource is running out. In particular, my XP
machine has 2GB... sometimes IE or Firefox seem to choke on drawing
something on the canvas while there is actually free memory unused by
the system.

So is there a way to make the Windows resource pool size bigger?
Also, for Windows Vista, is there such a need to increase it... I have
4GB of memory there and hope to increase the size there too. Thanks
very much!

I may get hit with repsonses, but, IMHO, the display of images can hinge
on the amount of memory and driver for the video card almost more than
the amount of memory.

I ran speed tests on my pc (xpSP2) when I was thinking about Vista.
Vista gave my machine a 2 rating on that test it has within itself.
The weak part of my PC was the Video card. Replacing it upped the
speed test to a 4 rating. I think 5 or 6 is perfect in Vista?
If you have a 64 Meg video card, some images etc can drag that type of
video card down in the ground.
Increasing the cache in windows just spills onto the hard drive and that
can become a bottle neck too. Your 2 gig should be great!

PS. I like this program. You can save a test results, change
something and then compare before and after.

The free trail may not save, but I have version 4.0 that works, and I
know I don't have a key for it. It only works for x days and then won't
re-install and I can only get it back after a reload. But I only use
it once a blue moon anyway so that's fine.

Actually thier are a few modifications that intel recommends to have xp use
more ram than page-file.Try run,type:regedit,in regedit,expand:HKEY_LOCAL_
MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSET\Control\SessionManager\open memory
managment.Locate & L.click DisablePagingExecutive,go to edit,modify,set to
1 from 0,close out regedit.To use the other modifications,go
to:http://www.intel.com/graphics/gaming/SYS_reg.htm
Also,in system properties,page file,set to "let system manage".....Click
set 2X

I was told that Vista will choke on any video cards that have less than 512MB
of RAM. Any RAM size below this will turn off the Aero features of the video
card in Vista.

Get Aero- with little memory.

This should work with PC's running as little as 256MB of RAM

1. Right-click the desktop -> Personalize.
2. Click on 'Windows Color and Appearance'
3. Click on 'Open Classic Appearance properties for more color options'.
4. Select the 'Windows Aero' color schemes.

When Vista reboots, it runs a special tool called the Desktop Window Manager
(DWM) that determines whether your system has enough bits to run Aero. Using
our little trick overrides the DWM (provided that you have a DirectX 9
graphics solution in your PC) and runs Vista the way you want it. This trick
also turns on Flip 3D, allowing you a unique view of all your currently open
applications when switching between them.

You can check your version of DirectX by going to Start, Run, type 'dxdiag'
without the quotes and click OK. When the application opens it will indicate
at the bottom of the page the DirectX version of your computer.
