The green light above where the power cord plugs into my desktop is
blinking and the computer will not start up, acts as though the power
cord is unpluged. It all started when I downloaded msn windows live
messenger to my desktop, that went ok. While I was installing it,
computer started beeping, from the tower not the speakers. Everything
froze up so I used the power button to turn it off and restarted,
finished installing messenger and then got pop ups telling me my usb
ports where not working, hp 7200 all in one and TV turner would not
work. Connected to MSN internet and then as soon as my homepage loaded
the thing just shut off and the green light was blinking. Anyone know
if this might be a cheap and simple fix at the repair shop or would it
be smarter to toss it and spend $500 on a new one.

HP Pavilion a1424n 2 years old
desktop
160 GB HD
2.5 GB memory

What does HP say about it? Have you asked them or gone to their web
site and looked up your computer to find the motherboard/case
specifications? There should be some sort of help there.

And, if the power supply needs replacement, try this:
