I have three address book entries (among others)
THOMPSON, DARRYL
THOMPSON, DEBBIE
DECOTIS, DARRYLL

the spellings are EXACT.

If I address an email to THOMPSON, DARRYL Outlook Express sends it to

THOMPSON, DEBBIE;DECOTIS, DARRYLL

It doesn't matter if I type THOMPSON or select it from the address
book
It shows me THOMPSON, DARRYL in the To line but sends it as above.

It also doesn't even ask me to chose one.

it is driving me crazy. Please tell me how to fix this.

take out the commas from the address book
commas are reserved as separators,
the address handler routine is trying to resolve conflict between your
naming and the convention

well that would make sense except that it is an option OE gives as the
display name.

I don't have commas in the entered name. It is just the way I chose to
display them.

Before you press Send, is there only one address in the To field?

What is in the To field in the copy in Sent Items?

Check the message source in the message in Sent Items. (Ctrl+F3). Are all
three addresses listed here, or just one?

When did this start?

In the Address Book, do the properties for each contact show only one e-mail
address, and are all three different?

did that

the To line contains the correct name as shown.
the sent shows both wrong names and it has been verified that the
wrong persons recvd them.

for whatever reason OE is using ITS ENTERED "," as a name delimiter
and picking the SECOND occurance (wrong) of THOMPSON and the first
occurance of a FIRST name which isn't spelled exactly the same.

the correct recipient never got it.

Create a new identity. Import the address book and test it.

ok, when you create an entry in your email address book DO NOT set the
display to show

Jones, Nancy

DO use

Jones Nancy >>>>>>> no ","

It will still show with the "," in your listing, but when it is on the
address line in your email there will be no "," in it and there will
be no problem with misdirected mail.
