Vista, Outlook Express 6 & 7 & Windows Live Mail
Is it not possible to use Outlook Express 6 or 7 in Vista?
Is one required to use Windows Live Mail as the email and newsgroups reader
in Vista?
Thanks.

Help.. Lost Everything In OE6
My wife turned on her computer today and launched OE. It opened but all her
added folders were gone, her regular folders were empty, the only thing left
was her Address Book. It looked like a fresh install of OE (except the
Address Book was there). Oh, there was one message in the In Box. The first
message you get from MS saying Microsoft Outlook Express... Welcome to
Outlook Express 6. It was dated 10-11-2007.
I've never seen anything happen like this before. All her Saved, Sent,
etc., emails were gone. I had just run a Norton AV full scan two days ago
and it came up clean. Any ideas on what happened? Thanks for the help.

Outlook Express opens connections to my news server on it's own!
I use Outlook Express for accessing newsgroups (like this one).
I find Outlook Express opens connections to the news server all on it's own
so that when I actually try to read or send a message I get errors that I
already have the maximum allowed number of connections to the server so I
can't read or send.
This is extremely tedious and can make using newsgroups a very frustrating
process.
Is there any way I can stop (or limit) this weird Outlook Express behaviour?
I'm using Windows XP Home with SP3.

Sending e-mail problems
I have Windows XP SP2 with Outlook Express. Recently, when sending my
e-mails I get a window that comes up saying "! MSI must be launched thru
Setup" and then immediately another window that says "CIB Please wait while
Windows configures CIB." I have no idea what either of these is. After a
little experimenting I found that just closing the windows with those
messages about 5 or 6 times (because they pop right back up again that many
times) finally eliminates them and it seems my e-mails gets sent normally
after that.
Does anyone know what these windows mean, and what can I do to get rid of
the problem? Other than that, my Outlook Express seems to work fine, as it
always did before this started.
Thanks.

OE won't recognize DBX folders
Don't know why, but OE suddenly stopped recognizing many of the dbx folders
in the default directory.
In older versions, there used to be a couple of files you could delete, and
the next time you opened OE it would recognize all your folders. I've tried
deleting folders.dbx, but that doesn't work.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Tag: tett Tag: 362706
Where does the problem lie ?
Recently I have experienced several intermittent periods of perhaps 10 or 12
hours when I could not get into Internet Explorer, nor could I access
Outlook Express on line. A check with a friend who uses the same ISP
confirmed that he could access without any trouble so there was no general
problem at Pipex so far as I could tell.
However I was clearly connected to the internet via my wireless router, and
even as I watched, my Local Area Network Status showed that packets were
being both sent and received. Furthermore my Anti-virus program was updated
with new signature files without any problem during the period when I could
not get access.
I cannot therefore understand where the problem lies. I attempted to use the
diagnostic tool which displays on Internet Explorer if you cannot get
access, but sadly the log I printed has been destroyed and I cannot recall
any detail. I do know that it referred to "DNS" and "the server" in some
way, but that may not help.
Any ideas ? Is the connection for my Antivirus Signature download
independent of my ISP - it seems it must be? I obviously don't understand
the mechanism and will be obliged for help.

How to deal with Gibberish, strange e-mials?
Hi:
For the past several days, I started receiving strange, gibberish e-mails
which I neither contacted nor
responseded. It occurs almost every day, ... some day, even two, gibberish
e-mails.
It's easy to say, ... just 'delete' them, all, however one major concern is
that one of e-mails stated regarding
credit card that of course, I can NOT read because of either, foreign
language or gibberish e-mails.
My question is now, ...
How to deal with those, strange and gibberish e-mails, all of which appears
to be an exact same person
who is e-mailing me?
Thanks in advance for any help. Tag: tett Tag: 362674

NG message not downloaded
Hi,
I'm having an annoying problem: On one of my subscribed private MS
Newsgroups (microsoft.private.directaccess.smallbizserver2003) there is a
persistent "1 not downloaded" message in the status bar. Sometimes it says
"2 not downloaded," sometimes "3 not downloaded." The number of "not
downloaded" messages changes if I navigate away to another NG, but there is
always at least one message not downloaded. I have tried unsubscribing and
resubscribing, and I have tried all the OE maintenance options to no avail.
There are thousands of messages, so I haven't been able to locate the
undownloaded messages.
How can I resolve this?

Password Not Accepted
I have a problematic new laptop and recently re-formatted the laptop back to
factory settings. I have since been trying to get OE to work correctly (it
did prior to "resetting" the laptop). I have a working internet connection
and all isp account information is entered in OE correctly. In the past,
this is all I've needed. However, now when I click "send/receive", I get the
message box asking for my password (with the "remember password" option
greyed out). I enter the correct password with the correct upper/lower case,
click "ok", and all that happens is the same Message box will flash up again.
This will cycle forever. If I click "cancel", I receive the following error
message:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was
rejected. Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.att.yahoo.com',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid user/password', Port: 995,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
The password works fine if I use a browser and go straight to the isp's
website. No one seems willing/able to help me, and HP and Microsoft keep
bouncing me back and forth. Help!!!!!

Lost emails during "compacting"
I am using OE 6.00.290.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158).

Replies to older messages have wrong "send from" address
I have OE set up to check two accounts for mail. Account #1 is set as the
default, and when I compose a new message it's sent from there. But whenever
I reply to an archived message that was received before a certain date this
past April, my reply is sent by default from Account #2 -- and I have to use
the drop-down menu to change the outgoing address. This really has me

for replies and only for older messages? Tag: tett Tag: 362566

OE6 Reply e-mail address problem (doesn't reply using address email was sent to)
I'm experiencing a problem with Outlook Express 6. When ever I try t
reply to received email, the application chooses a reply address b
some random mechanism and does not always use the address the messag
was sent to.
For clarification;
I have three email accounts set up in Outlook Express 6 (on Windows XP
SP3). Two for private use and one for business use.
When ever I receive an email to any of the three accounts and then hi
the reply button, OE doesn't automaticly choose the address the messag
was sent to as the reply address, but instead simply chooses among on
of the three accounts I have set up. In that way I might be replying t
by business clients from my private account and to my family and friend
from my business account.
I'm at complete lose as to why this is happening and although I foun
numerous other examples on the Net of the same problem and requests fo
assistance(*), I have yet to find a solution to it.
If anyone could advise I would be extremely grateful. Thank you

Error Number 0x80004005 With Outlook Express
Yesterday I stopped being able to download mail from my ISP (AT&T) to
Outlook Express (6.0). When I try, I get the message:
"An unknown error has occurred, server: pop.att.yahoo.com. Protocol POP3,
Port 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x80004005.
I'm able to see my mail at AT&T Yahoo Webmail; but I can't download it.
(Have been downloading from that account to Outlook Express for several
years now.)
I Googled that error and I saw recommendations to: a) clear out the Inbox in
my web mail, and try again; b) to rename Inbox.dbx and reopen Outlook
Express, creating a new Inbox (that one was from Microsoft); and to turn off
any antivirus software. I did all three of those things, and it didn't make
any difference.
Furthermore, I have two PCs on my home network, and mail from the AT&T Yahoo
account is downloaded to both PCs using Outlook Express on each PC. Both PCs
are getting the same error (and both started at the same time). So it seems
unlikely that it's something with my PC.
Furthermore, Outlook Express is also downloading mail from my gmail account,
and it does that without any problems. So, again, if it was a problem with
Outlook Express, it seems that it would affect the gmail download, as well
(though not necessarily).
Furthermore, I am able send mail from the AT&T Yahoo account. So if it were
a permission thing, then sending mail would be affected.
I'm totally stumped. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Neil Tag: tett Tag: 362508
