In Outlook Express, how can I define the "columns" other than the "InBox" setting
In Outlook Express, if I create a folder under "Sent", when I change the its
column setting [by View -> Columns],
it change the "Inbox" as well!! However, how can I set the column order of
the folder
which under the "Sent" folder the same as "Sent" Folder?( I think this just

OE 6 - Outbox Items not leaving Outbox to go to Sent Items Folder
Hi Folks -
This just started happening, with no changes made on my part. When I go to
send an email, it goes to the Outbox when I hit "Send" as it should, but
never leaves the Outbox to move to the Sent Items folder after it's been
sent. Yes, I know it's going out, because some folks told me that got the
email five times (I thought it wasn't going anywhere, so I kept reopening the
item in the Outbox and resending), and I tried sending it to another account
of mine, and sure enough, it is going out. Yes, the "Save Copy of sent
messages in the 'Sent Items" folder" is checked, as it always has been.
Again, this just started happening yesterday, with no configuration changes
made by me. Any ideas as to where to look or what to do would be appreciated.

default email when responding to websites. I get the Word one, and it
takes too long to come up. How do I get OE back and put Word out of the

I have a unique situation here were in I have to retrieve the
conversation index of the email.
It is possible to retrieve the email text using POP3.
Query is, Is it possible to retrieve the mail's metadata such as
ConversationID using pop3.

When I recieve emails with links in them; when i click on the link, my
Outlook Express locks up and I have to go to Control/Alt/Delete to get out of
it.
It never did this before.

newsgroups don't stay after synchronizing
After a week of battling with Verizon, I finally got my newsgroups back.
Now I can't keep them in oe6 after they are synchronized. I can get them to
download but after i get out and come back they're gone, I should be able to
keep them to read offline. Has anyone else had this problem, I checked all
the options
with my other newsgroups in OE6, which work fine, Somehow this Verizon
newsgroup must be corrupt and I don't know how to fix it. is anyone familiar
with this problem, I could use the help.

Default volume=-9640 setting
Hi --
Something odd has begun to happen in Outlook Express. A google search
reveals hundreds of people writing in about it, but so far I've found no fix
and am hoping that one of the experts here may have a suggestion.
A friend asked for assistance when none of her midi files would play in
Outlook Express. When I checked her code, I noticed that "volume=-9640" was
included in her BG sound tag. As soon as that value was changed to zero,
all was normal again.
Since she had no explanation for where that value came from, I checked my
own desktop system. Sure enough, OE inserts "volume=-9640."
Next I checked my notebook computer which has just had XP reinstalled after
a complete reformat and everything is normal on that computer.
Only midi files are affected; all other sound file types play as before. No
Windows system files are affected.
Obviously, something has caused this unwanted change. Does anyone have a
suggestion for how we can get the default volume value back to zero?

we have WINDOWS XP PR with SP2 ,IE7,OE6.we have 2 problems
1) sometime when user open outlook express he wil not able to see all mails
but if he close & start OE 6 again all mails show .
2)when this user reply to some rich text mail & try to change colour of new
or existing text in mail it do not change .if user create new mail then
colour get changed
I copy his mailbox folder to other laptop but problem remains.

"goes away" and I have to reboot before I can get into OE again. Any

An apparently corrupt e-mail arrived in my OE Inbox and I am unable to

Hi, I hit a snag and cant remember how to save a copy of an E-Mail from my

2-I have set up my mail account but before it used to ask for my password
when I opened O.E. now it does not. What am I doing wrong?
I have win xp sp3 with O.E.6. (I wonder if the new service pack is
preventing me from configuring so I have some privacy and get a request for a
password when i open it.
I used to see a sign in box with the same user name I have with my Comcast.
net account and it asked for the same password as the one I use for the

I have sent some emails with OE 6.0.2900.
My email was in the TO field and the rest were in the BCC field.
So far, the only way to see who got the email is to click on File |
Properties and then choose Details.
Is there an easier way to see who got the email so that it shows the BCC
recipents to me?
A tweak, registry modification or something would be appreciated.

'Apparently-To'.
In OE can't find a way of trapping these messages and moving them into a
folder using message rules.

I had verizon newsgroups up in till sun night.
than it stopped working, I now get "unable to connect to server".
I have microsoft news and grc on my oe and it worksfine.
I called verizon 3 times now and they tell me it's my problem

i need help learning to email it keeps coming up saying an error from yahoo

E-mail or posts with attachments
Sometimes I get emails with jpeg attachments and when I open them the
images are displayed below the text. This applies to attachments in
binary newsgroups, as well. I know that jpeg attachments can be
dodgy, so what I would like to know is, if the images appear below the
email or post, are the files actually opened, or is it that only by
double-clicking the file attachment and opening them that way could
they create a potential danger?
I use AVG Free (without email scanner) and thought that I could
right-click an email or post in OE before opening it and I would have
the option to Scan with AVG just to make sure, but this is not the
case, unfortunately. I can scan with AVG if I save emails or posts to
Desktop before opening it, but would any infection they may contain be
released by the "save as" action, please? It seems unlikely, but I
thought I would ask...

oe slow to load SOME of the time...
...90% of the time OE takes about a minute to load fully. i get the folder
panels on the left immediately, but the header list and preview windows can
take forever. running xp sp2. eset smart security. 10% of the time

E-Mail sending receipt issue
I am having issues sending e-mails with read receipts. I receive e-mails
from contacts with a read receipt message asking me if I want to send the
return receipt. I left click yes and a message appears saying the return
receipt cannot be sent.
Here's some info:
OS: Windows XP Professional SP2
Browser: IE7
E-Mail: OE6
Security: McAfee Internet Security Suite.
The return send receipt has worked recently until last week. No changes
were made to the computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set Outlook to show HTML format

IE6 keeps generating errors and closing
IE6 has worked fine for a long time on my Win2000 computer. Lately it won't work for more than a few minutes, always
giving an error message that "iexplore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows". Then something about
an error log being created, of course never telling me where this error log is(so what's the point?).

I started getting this message every time I send an e-mail; "The message

People receiving my e-mails get 2 copies of each e-mail & my reply e-mails
usually start with some random parts of the message I was responding to??

sp3 + O.E. 6
Until I installed sp3 to my xp home, outlook express ran fine. Since the
installation of sp3, O.E. is unstable, e.g., my wife's emails from her web
based server were transferred to O.E. with out us doing anything. There were
issues with newsgroups we never encountered before also.
We no longer use O.E. but were curious if others had the same problem?

Identity Issue
I have a computer with XP Home, fully up-to date. I use OE6 and every time I
start it, I get the choice of chooing one of the three identies. It works
jusr fine.
I have set up a laptop with XP Home, fully up-to-date with OE6 and two
identities. I have not been able to configure it to always open wiht the
option for choosing an identity. I have both checked and unchecked the box
"Use this identity when starting a program" under Managing Identities.
