After a week of battling with Verizon, I finally got my newsgroups back.
Now I can't keep them in oe6 after they are synchronized. I can get them to
download but after i get out and come back they're gone, I should be able to
keep them to read offline. Has anyone else had this problem, I checked all
the options
with my other newsgroups in OE6, which work fine, Somehow this Verizon
newsgroup must be corrupt and I don't know how to fix it. is anyone familiar
with this problem, I could use the help.

Thanks, Bill

Select a newsgroup, then View, Current View. Is hide read messages
checked? If so, select Show All Messages. If you messages return,
you've likely set Tools, Options, Read, Mark all messages as read when
leaving a newsgroup.

OE can only detect & display messages residing on the newsserver. If a
message is removed from the server, it WILL be removed in OE the next time
OE synchronizes with the server. The MS newsserver archives messages for a
minimum of 90 days. The newsserver you're referring to may have a much
shorter archival period (e.g., 24 hours), Bill.

Bear
finally got the newsgroups back from verizon after a week of battling with
them,
the tech's on the line with me 1 hour all of a sudden they start appearing,
magic I guess.
the problem is I can get them If i go to the news group right click, go to
properties,
local files, and reset. I then can synchronize and they will start to
appear, but if I go to another group and go back they're gone, I have to redo
the procedure allover to get them back. It also shows 0 messages 0 unread yet
there's 3120 messages on the server.
Why me I live a clean life?

What if you do it this way?

While in a newsgroup: View | Current View. Make sure Show All Messages and
Group Messages By Conversation are checked.

Tools | Options | Read. Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time. Then, right
click on the newsgroup in the Folder Tree | Properties | Local File | Reset.
Switch to another folder and then back and all available messages will be
downloaded again.

Or go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Clean Up Now and choose the group,
or server at the top and then Reset.

Instead of Synching: Tools | Accounts | News. Check: " Include this
account...........".

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your news & mail accounts in a new Named
Identity (File | Identities | Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1)
compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old
identity into the new one, (3) configure all new accounts in the new
identity, and then (4) delete the old one (File | Identities | Manage
Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [removed in WinXP SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and
do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
