Lost Group Addresses - Can I get them back ?
I've really done it this time.............
I was cleaning up my Outlook Express and
accidentally deleted
my sub-group addresses where I kept them filed by
type. I
didn't even realize I did it until I opened OE
again and they
were gone.
I got a new cell phone which has PDA-Sync on it
and in trying
to bring across my contacts from Outlook Express,
but it brought
those "lost" contacts. Where can I find those
lost group addresses
and restore them so I can back them up and then
try bring the
1st level contacts that I want on the cell phone.

Paper-clip symbol in Inbox, but no attachment
Whenever I receive an HTML email in my Inbox it has the Paper-clip symbol in
the Inbox listing even if the HTML email has no attachment.
What could be causing this?

Sending email in Outlook Express
I use XP Home and Outlook Express 6. Was with freeserve and segued thru to
Orange. Recently problems started with email and I was advised to change my
serveres from freeserve to orangehome. However, since then, outgoing mail has
been a problem, only working occasionally. Incoming is fine all the time. I
read in a discussion forum that changing the port number in advanced
properties might help, but I do not know what to. Orange are not much help -
they just tell me to re-install OE. Can anyone advise, please?

Can anyone use my domain name to send outgoing emails?
For example, enquiry@abc.com, @abc.com is my domain name, receiving email
uses POP3, and sending email uses SMTP, can any unknown sender send any
out-going email under John@abc.com without getting any authority from the
source abc.com? If they can successfully send out email, do they access my
SMTP illegally?

I have a couple of messages that have been sent to me. I am unable to

Mails not appearing
I often get mails which appear to download, but
do not appear in the inbox. The download bar appears and says e.g.
downloading message 1 of 1, but the mail does not appear.
I have no rules set. This is driving me mad as I am not receiving
numerous messages sent to me. I'm not sure if it is a problem with
Outlook or my provider. Anybody else had this problem?

Does anyone have any suggestions on knowing how much emails we send?
I would like to send 20000 emails for marketing, therefore, receiver can
click on email to access our web site. My concern is who will know we are
sending 20000 emails at this moment.

Several mail folders wont open ?
I have been using Outlook Express 6 for sometime . This morning its
done something that it hasnt before ......... Have some 5 mail folders
that it wont open . None have many messages it them .
Re booting the computer or manually compacting mail folders made no

I have stopped receiving mail into my Outlook Express 6. I spoke with AT&T
and updated all of my settings and that is not the problem. As soon as I
open outlook express the error message pops up and says: Protocol:POP3,
Port:995, Secure (SSL): Yes, error 0x80004005.
I found another site that suggested I search for files that said Inbox.mbx
or Inbox.dbx and then to rename it as Inbox.old. I did have one that was
.dbx and I changed it, closed and reopened express and the same message
appeared. I also turned off e-mail scanning and that did not work as well.

OE 6 sending mail ???s
My ISP is Qwest (DSL) and I use Firefox for surfing and Yahoo for mail. If I
want to contact a company about a product I see on one of their pages, their
link defaulted to my OE 6.The email will not pass thru my system and just
sits in the outbox. What can I do to do to make OE 6 useful for outbound
e-mails? How do I set it up? PS: i an somewhat of a novice.

Composing Problem...
I'm not sure how to explain this .. when trying to compose or reply e
mails.. if I use back space to change something, it makes the words &
letters ahead of the blinking curser disappear.. so that I have to start the
letter all over in order to correct anything .. anyone have any ideas or a

IE7 odd behavior
I'm getting odd behaviour when using IE7 to google. Google returns a number
of possible sites against a search word(s) but when I click on the link I
get (most but not every time) a completely different site - or just a blank
google screen. I've scanned for spyware using NIS, Spybot and AVG each
finding something which was actioned. Any ideas what may be the cause?

Sent Items folder - messages have gone!

I have a problem with my Sent Items folder.
We had a power failure on Friday 2 May 2008 and ever since all messages in
my Sent Items folder are no longer appearing in OE. The folder has
completely emptied out. I have checked the store folder and can still see
the original Sent Items.dbx file there.
Now when I right click on Sent Items in my OE and view Properties, it says
the files are stored in the following file: Sent Items (2).dbx
This new Sent Items (2).dbx folder appears in my store folder and seems to
be saving all my sent messages.
I would like to view my original Sent Item's folder in OE and have all sent
messages stored in there like normal.

Make OE the default mail handler
When I start OE6 it asks if I want to make it the default mail handler. I
always click Yes. Then, if I click Tools\Options\General, the bottom panel
says "This
application is not the default mail handler". I then click "Make default."
However, when I exit Tools and then go back into Tools, OE6 is still not
the default mail handler. If I restart OE6 it again asks if I want to make
it the default mail handler.
Any suggestions on how to make these changes stick?

Outlook Express starts at press of Start+E
Greetings,
When I depress the Start (Flag/MS-Logo) Key and E simultaneously, expecting
Windows Explorer to run, Outlook Express opens. Where & How is this
shortcut/hotkey controlled? I want Start+E to open Windows Explorer (and
Start+R to open the Command Line).
Start+D works as promised to minimize (or restore) all 'desktop present'
applications. These are the three
Start-Key shortcuts that I use. I have not tested others.

Merging message folders with duplicate names
Hi Everyone,
I've just returned to using Outlook Express 6 after using Thunderbird for
about a year. In that time I accumulated a large number of new messages in
Thunderbird and used the same folder structure I had in OE6.
Eventually I managed to get all of my Thunderbird message folders into an
Outlook Express folder named "Thunderbird Import".
(BTW I did this by exporting from Thunderbird to Outlook, then from Outlook
to Outlook Express)
What I'd like to do now is re-merge the subfolders in the ThunderBird Import
folder back into my personal folder store in Outlook Express.
However I can't figure how to do this without winding up with duplicate
subfolders having names appended by "(1)", "(2)", etc. i.e. instead of
merging a subfolder named "SW Receipts", I get "SW Receipts" and "SW Receipts
(1)".
If I did this to file folders in Windows Explorer, the folders would be
merged into one folder with the same name, and duplicate contents would be
overwritten while new ones would be added.
Is there any way to do this in Outlook Express, either in OE itself or using
a 3rd party utility?

OE 6.0 do not send emails even the emails are moved to sent folder
Please help, i don't know what's happening to Microsoft Outlook Express. I
have confirmed to my internet provider that the connection is working well,
they told me that the problem is probably with the Outlook Express. When I
send an email, it seems that everything's ok because the email sent was moved
to sent folders. However, when I check with the receipient if whether they
receive my emails, it was not received. I have tried it many times but the
problem is still there. How come my email was moved to sent folder when it
was not really sent anyway? Would appreciate your help. Thank you so much

Vanishing dial up connection tone
Hello group,
My mom complained about that when he connected to the internet by dial
up connection the typical tone was gone; although the internet is
properly connected by the same means. SHe checked the PC sound system
and its still run normally.
I would like to know how did the dial up connection tone vanish? Does
it have to do with the ISP provider changing or making the connection
silent or its the fault of the PC?

Outlook Express Backup
I have been trying to backup Outlook Express email and when I try to open the
folder, everything is garbled, numbers or letters, and looks nothing like the
original emails. I am using WordPad to open the email backup folder and I
am not sure if this is the correct program. Can someone tell me what I am
doing wrong and tell me a better way to back up the emails?

and I'm unable to put a checkmark in Source Edit.

Cannot Save E-Mail Account Password in Outlook Express 5
I have a senior citizen friend in another town that has this problem.
I found the web-site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290684. He does
not have Outlook, so I attempted to use the procedure under "Create a
new Outlook Express identity", but when I got to the Accounts window
in Outlook Express, the previous accounts did not appear.
This scared me, so I abandoned the effort. If this procedure is

Multiple send of emails
Some times my OE fails to move the sent email from the Out folder to the Sent
folder. I know my accounts are set properly because this is a sporadic
condition that comes and goes without changing my outgoing servers. When the
email does not transfer to the sent folder it remains in the out folder and
then is sent multiple times to the receipients. This condition even persists
when I close and restart OE as well as reboot my computer. I think I have
eliminated malware based on daily scans with AVG and Webroot for viruses and
spyware and none has been found.

Unable to forward or send attachments in OE6
I have XP pro. Now when I forward pictures or send pictures or any
type of attachment like a pdf file the recipient doesn't get the
attachments. It says attachment but there isn't any file extension.
Or sometimes they don't get the email at all. I have contacted my ISP
and they say it is a OE problem. I think all of my options are
correct. Set up for HTML and blocking file attachments unchecked. I
