OE crashes when switching identity

I have fresh install of Wind-XP all patches have been
loaded including all current patches for Outlook Express
(Help About shows OE version of 6.00.2900.2180).

When switching identities outlook express will sometimes
totally disappear with no error message or any other
anomalous behavior. When attempt to restart Outlook
Express I get the hour glass for a few seconds then the
hour glass disappears but outlook express does not
start...no splash screen, error message or status message
is given.

To start Outlook Express I must either log off or
reboot. This gets very old..what can I do?
