I just switched over from 98SE to XP. My OE spell check was provided by
Word 97 which I lost when the transfer was made. I have Works 9 which has
no checker. I am sure this question has been asked many times on this
board but can someone a recommend a good freeware, spyware-free spell
checker?

Thanks

I have used the Vampirefo spell check for years.

OE 6 does not come with it's own spell check. You need Word or an MS Office
program, pre 2007. The spell checker in Works 4 through 6 will work with OE,
but not other editions. If you do not have such a program, you can download
a free spell check at one of these sites.

TinySpell:

Bruce,
I down loaded the Vampirefo for three different sites. In each case, when I
tried to us the spell check I get an error message "An error occurred while
the spelling was being checked". Do you have any suggestions?

Bruce,

I just installed Vampirefo spell check according to your instructions and
now Outlook Express hangs when I try to spell check or send a message.

Please advise,
Terry

Please start your own thread in the future, thank you.

Did you disable your anti-virus before you installed as you should with any
program?

Remove the spell check via Add/Remove and reboot. Assuming all is back to
normal, download it again and Save it to a folder on your HDD. Do not Run it
from the download site.

Now, close all programs and turn off your AV. Open the folder where you
saved it and install the program. Restart your computer and open OE. Any
better now?

Sorry about the thread, Bruce. Mea culpa -- I did not disable my anti-virus
program, and I ran the program from the web site instead of saving it to my
harddrive.

In any event, I followed your instructions, and all works! Thanks for your
help!

This was my first time working with this discussion group, and I appreciate
your patience and expertise.
