Hi All
Unable to open an OE email with a notation stating, "This file does not
have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an
association in Folders Options control panel." Have read, Msdn,
"Introduction to File Associations",
but can't seem to decipher it. Appreciate if someone can advise this old
newbie on how to go about viewing the contents of this Email.
Thanks in advance.

An attachment? What file extension?

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works and then check the box: Always
use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open
these attachments in the future.

Michael Santovec,
Took advantage of your suggestion suggestion to franktee as I was having a
problem opening a new PowerPoint file. Was able to correct the problem.
However why doesn't the file change it's icon to PowerPoint file Icon . It
remains a white envelope. I click on the envelope, another screen appears
and I click open on the title and the PowerPoint presentation opens. Where I
have the file stored it still remains as a white envelope. Just curious.

The filke doesn't change its icon. Changing the icon is the business of XP.
So, if there is a problem with the file associations with respect to the
icon which XP displays, you must look in
the file types which you can see in the folder options tab.

Thanks for your reply Jim.
About month or two ago I developed a problem viewing some attachments and
PowerPOint files. Prior to that time I had no problem viewing PowerPoint
presentations and where I saved those files the PowerPoint icon appeared
correctly. Recently I received a file I couldn't open , it's then I used
Michael Santovec reply to correct the issue, that's when the icon doesn't
appear. Following his suggestion in correcting the association the correct
icon is displayed.

Sounds like someone is doing a forward as attachment of the message with
the PowerPoint file. The Envelope icon is pointing to an EML file
which is a forwarded message. You open that and it has the actual
PowerPoint file which I would expect has the correct icon.
