Order of Sent Messages ???
Other than alphabetically in the "To" column, what is the default order of
messages in a Sent folder? Can you secondarily organize these messages by
date?

Migrate OE files to new computer?
What is the best way to migrate all OE6 files (and possibly settings) from a
W2K computer to a XP Pro computer? On the W2K computer the OE6 dbx files are
in folder F:\Outlook Express Files. I want these files in the same folder
name on the XP computer. Can I just copy the files over? If so, how can I
get the XP Outlook to look to this folder?

everybody,i need to help:My E-mail server is exhchange 2000,OS is

outlook does not respond if files attached
The outlook works fine if i jsut send plain email. It often shows the
message saying trying to connect to microsoft exchange server. the
admin of network says the account does not have any problem. When i
try to attach even a small file, the outlook simply hangs and i have
to stop it from task manager. I noticed i cannot send attachment from
web based email, yahoo gmail, as well. When i use the other computer,
the outlook and my web absed email are working fine. Please suggest

Need help with possible message rule, please
Hi --
I have a couple of different servers that I can send Outlook Express mail
through (gmail, yahoo, regular ISP, etc.) and I know that I can just click
on the down arrow and select the one that I want to use. The problem is
that I sometimes forget to do that.
I do work from home for one particular person and one would like for all
messages to him to be sent through his domain mail server.
Is there any way to make a rule that says something like "When the message
is to John Doe, send it through "xxx.com?"
Web mail via the domain server email account is not an option in this
instance because the files that we exchange exceed the allowable size.

Illegible Characters In Messages
Hi, using Windows XP(Home)SP2, IE7, OE6, Everything up to date. Below is an
excerpt from a message in this Windowsxp.general Newsgroup. You will notice
the illegible characters in the 3rd line. I get that in many of the messages
that are displayed from the microsoft.public newsgroups. Sometimes there
are many other words scrambled in this manner, in a message. Although its
happening in OE I could not tell if it would be an XP or OE problem. Does
anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem?

No Event Viewer Events (Internet Explorer)
Hi, Windows XP(Home)SP2, IE7 & OE6 - Plenty of RAM and Disk space. I have 7
items listed in my Event Viewer(Local) and they all list events/actions when
opened except Internet Explorer. The opened page shows, Internet Explorer
(0) events, 'There are no Items to show in this View'. I believe it is
turned off or not functioning. How can I check or ensure it is turned on?

Block Sender doesn't work in Outlook Express 6
I used to be able to highlight an email, then go up to Message and hit Block
Sender or Create Rule from Message. Recently, I got a lot of spam, so I
tried to do it, but noticed that those two options are no longer highlighted,
so I can't use them. I don't know what happened. I tried a Windows Update

I have stopped receiving mail into my Outlook Express 6. I spoke with AT&T
and updated all of my settings and that is not the problem. As soon as I
open outlook express the error message pops up and says: Protocol:POP3,
Port:995, Secure (SSL): Yes, error 0x80004005.
I found another site that suggested I search for files that said Inbox.mbx
or Inbox.dbx and then to rename it as Inbox.old. I did have one that was
.dbx and I changed it, closed and reopened express and the same message
appeared.

Why an .mht file "not a valid Win32 application"
In the course of my work, I save a lot of web pages as archive files =
(mht.extension) for future reference. All of a sudden, when I try to =
open any one of these .mht files by double-clicking (or right clicking =
and using the Open command) I get a msg that says the file you are =
trying to open "is not a valid Win32 application" and the file will not =
open. Nor will the file open=20
If I right click and select Open With and then Internet Explorer, it =
opens okay. But if I select Open With and then Microsoft Word, I get =
the "not a valid Win32 application" message. But if I open Microsoft =
Word, do a File | Open and navigate to the file, it opens just fine.
I have never had this problem before and cannot imagine what is causing =
this behavior, particularly since I can open the file, but just the =
"hard way", I am running Win XP2, IE6 and Word 2002. The .mht files =
were created using this computer.
So far, I have not had any type of similar problem with any other file =
types.
Anybody have any suggestions as to what the problem might be? I find it =
particularly puzzling that the error msg refers to a Win32 "application" =
when the file I am trying to open is not an application.

After I receive mail in OE, I double click to open and most times get the

Following all instructions given by att for continued use of email (which up
until today had worked flawlessly for years), I now am unable to send email
using Outlook Express. Never before had at&t require authentication, but it
appears they do so now, though I'm not sure when this went into effect.
I simply use the DSL service to send and receive email, but I don't use the
account that was assigned, as I have had an account on a friend's server for
probably 10 years or more.
Now, when I try to send, I get an error message indicating messages are
rejected by the server, with the problem apparently centering around
"requiring a valid sender domain."

Cannot open more than one "version" of Outlook
I am running Outlook XP Student and Teacher edition, and frequently need to
toggle between contacts and calendar, email and memo notes, etc. To
accomplish this, one normally right clicks on one of the icons on the left
side Outlook toolbar, right clicks the new function, and opens in in a new
window.
Recently, this function has stopped functioning properly and, when I right
click on the icon, an error message appears that has no error number. It
merely states,
"Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." It also asks if I want to report this to MS.
In explanatory notes, it appears that this is some unspecified type of .dll
error.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office and, have restarted the computer,
all to no avail. Does anyone have any other suggestions about what the

Why is Hotmail divorcing Outlook Express?
I'm wondering why Microsoft has decided to drop support of Hotmail from
Outlook Express. Outlook Express has been my email program of choice since
it became available. It not only does Hotmail but my Gmail account too. I
also use it for newsgroups. I have resisted switching to Windows Live
because Outlook Express does everything I need in one desktop program.
Unless I missed it somewhere I don't believe Windows Live has newsgroup
capability. Why won't Microsoft just update OE to work with their new idea
of running Hotmail?

Problem after compaction
A non-savvy friend allowed OE6 to compact then found his folders awry.
He found the .bak files in the Recycle bin and used Restore on them.
Now he's in a mess with his OE folders and has lost most of his emails.
He found something looking relevant ( yes it's that vague at the moment!)
somewhere down the tree in My Documents.
Trying to follow over the phone was/is a bit of an ordeal but I'd like to
help if possible
Is there any hope of a recovery?

OE not sending email
I hope someone on here can help with a problem I've got with OE. I've got 3
computers and 5 email accounts (1 primary, 4 secondary) with my ISP, and all
machines can (or should be able to) send to/receive from all email accounts.
However, one computer cannot send from one sub-account (but will receive).
I'm absolutely certain that I've entered all settings within OE correctly,
including username and password, and server settings. In fact, a friend came
round with his laptop, connected to my network and I've entered the details
onto his machine and I can confirm that it works on his laptop OK, just as
it does on my other two computers.
This leads me to conclude that it is a problem with that particular install
of OE on that particular machine, and not anything to do with ISP settings,
accounts or whatever.
So, my question is, can I do a reinstall/rebuild/repair of OE on it's own
(or even by reinstalling Internet Explorer (as I seem to remember that OE is
part of IE)) or is it necessary to reinstall Windows from scratch?
All machines running XP Pro SP2, IE6 (6.0.2900.2180 - don't like 7) and OE6
(6.00.2900.2180) and fully up-to-date via automatic updates.

Going crazy! Suddenly my OE6 (running on Win XP SP2, update
automatically through Windows Updates) has started "nesting" my
incoming mails, like in "conversations" in GMail (i.e.) the incoming
mail appears as a subsidiary of the earlier mail from the same sender.
I had set up inbox to show incomning mails in date order so that
latest mails are at the bottom, this made it easy to check todays
mails. Now I have to hunt all over my inbox because the incomimng
mails could be anywhere, "nested" under different senders, and I have
to hunt for messages highlighted in Bold. (Hope I am clear!). This is
driving me crazy, I have not changed y settings in any way, can
anybody help me with a solution? I just need OE to work the inbox the
way it was - datewise. The sent mail folder is also behaving the sme

Shortcuts to OE
Is it possible to create a desktop shortcut that will automatically open a
specific OE identity? The default shortcut always opens the last identity I
used and toggling with the "switch identities" dialog is getting kinda old.
I have two persona set up--no one else uses my computer so neither is
password protected. OE 6.00.2800.1123, Windows Millennium.

Please help! I'm at the end of my wits.
No matter what I do I can't get back the English spelling function in OE 6.
Apparently, it uses a different dictionarry, because all the English words
get underlined in read as unknown.
Outlook 2007 spelling works just fine though. Any ideas would be greately
appreciated. Thank you.

Cannot send
Just set up godaddy email account yesterday. Tried to set up in outlook. I
can receive with no problem. When I try to send the Logon box pops up
repeatedly asking for username and password. I called godaddy tech support
twice. They came to the conclusion it was my outlook.

Extra "sent" boxes in Outlook Express
After setting up additional accounts in Outlook Express new "inboxes" are
shown for each account. However there is still one only "sent" box and I
would like each account to have its own dedicated "sent" box in which
outgoing messages are automatically filed. I have been able to set up extra
"sent" boxes in a tree from the existing single "sent" box but I can find no
way to configure OE to send my messages to them.
Any suggestions?

How to import email addresses from a .csv file into a particular contact group
This is somewhat similar to another question I posted a couple of weeks ago,
but also different.
I want to make separate email lists for different groups. How can I import
email addresses from a .csv file into a particular cintact group.
For example, I have two .csv files with two fields which I will map to the
Name and Email Address fields in Outlook Express:
Excerpt from my baseball.csv file:
Randy Johnson, randyj@diamondbacks.com
Joba Chamberlain, jchamberlain@yankees.com
...
Excerpt from my football.csv file:
Brett Favre, bfavre@packers.com
Joe Montana, jmontana@49ers.com
...
The problem is it appears that I can only import these files into my main
contacts, i.e., "Wes' Contacts," while what I really want to do is to be
able to only import the baseball.csv data into a group I created called
"Baseball" under my "Wes' Contacts" folder, and I want to import only the
football.csv data into another group I created called "Football."
It sounds simple enough, but I just don't see exactly how I can do this.
