        • Some mail opens a blank page Have XP Home Professional Office. Most email is received fine, but some have started to open as a blank page. The only thing on the page is the PC Tools virus check confirmation. No virus found in this incoming message Checked by PC Tools AntiVirus (4.0.0.25 - 10.065.009). http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/ If there is an attachment, same result. Double clicking on attachment (under subject) opens NotePad with the PC Tools virus check confirmation. I used Norton Antivirus fine, but it expired in Feb and I installed CA Security for protection as it came free with Road Runner (Time/Warner) broadband connection that I have used for years. I also added PC Tools 1.5 and Spybot. I've uninstalled the last two programs, but nothing changed. The cookies under IE Explorer are set low as always. I don't get any error or blocking messages, just an empty white page with the PC Tools message at the bottom. The email that comes through fine has the same PC Tools message. Soome could be a friend that messed up on sending mail, but the CNET newsletters are hit and miss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -- Dan24 Tag: hlh Tag: 359188

        • Daylight Savings Time Problem I'm using OE6 with Win2000Prof. At the last time change, I updated the time on the PC. Outgoing email = shows the same time as on the PC, but incoming email shows standard = time. Any way to correct the time on the incoming email? I notice on = other folks' mail where they have replied to other email, that the email = they copied has daylight time but their email shows std time - hence I'm = thinking this is a setting on my end to change. Thanks in advance. Claude Tag: hlh Tag: 359187

        • Outlook Express 6, Compaction Errors I did all that was idicated and advised in post but still have OE Folders as .bak files, all remaining in my Recycle Bin. Although opening new folders where necessary in OE, no emails appear in the new folders when opening OE. I did notice a discrepancy in the Store Folder name: a. In OE>Tools>Options>Maint it shows the location of the store as 380493AA-D26E-4F11-968F6EA19CD3F4F5 But in the Windows Explorer directory the Store Folder is shown as: b. C:\Docs & Settings\David\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\ as {380493AA-D26E-4F11-968F-6EA19CD3F4F5} i.e. after the 968F there is a "-" in Para b. Which one is correct? Should I change anything? The file listed in Par a. cannot be found after Search in My Computer! I noticed in an earlier thread, Ron Sommer mentioned "that a new Identity is needed" ? Is it possible to search for and delete all previous identities, open a new identity and move the .bak folders from the Recycle Bin into OE? This would surely clean the system out and start from scratch? I have Outlook installed but do not use it as there are more bells and whistles than I need, but is it less prone to compacting errors. • OE 6.0: Why it collapses personal folders on startup? Okay, I am desperate here. I have been searching for a very long time. This forum seems to be official from Microsoft. I hope you will help me. I am using Outlook Express 6.0, and I have personal folders as children of Inbox folder, if you know what I mean (you press "+" on the left and they expand). OE drives me crazy by collapsing my personal folders on startup. So when I close the program with folders expanded, the next time I start it, they will be collapsed, and I have to expand them again and again. Is there any way to tell OE to leave my folders expanded? May be some registry tweaks? Thank you VERY much. Tag: hlh Tag: 359154

        • Fonts in OE6 query My cousin has a PC running XP HE SP2, and OE6. She installed some new TrueType fonts into the 'Fonts' folder, as she wanted to be able to compose emails using these - these worked fine, appearing in the drop down list in OE, until she ran 'disk clean up' on the PC. The fonts she previously installed have since disappeared from the drop down bar and will now not`reinstall into the Fonts folder. Is there a way of fixing it this? Why would disk clean up remove them anyway? Thanks for any help regarding this. Craig. Tag: hlh Tag: 359152

        • No email message.... I performed a 'Find' on the inbox searching for a key word in the message. OE6 came back with an error message saying, "Outlook Express encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again". Then I looked at the inbox, searching for the same message under the date/time and same folder that the Find message had reported and there was NO email message from that person there!! I'm running XP Pro, OE6, dual core Intel processor and have about 2 GB memory. What's going on? Thanks for your help, Mike Tag: hlh Tag: 359142

        • need help changing Store Folder to network share I have WinME running in Virtual PC on an XP machine. I'd like to have both instances of OE share a single Message Store Folder. From what I gather, the only connection between Guest and Host OS is though a network share. For example, if I want to copy or move files from WinME to XP, I just drag them to the appropriate XP folder via network share. If someone has experience with setting up a common OE Store Folder over a network, I'd appreciate your help because it's not working as expected. Here's what I did: I created a network share for the XP/OE Store Folder and then changed the WinME Store Folder to point to it. Although the WinME OE seems happy with the network Store Folder, my existing messages and folders don't show up. With all OE's quirks, this didn't surprise me and I figure there's probably a simple fix. To troubleshoot, I created a new folder "test" in the WinME OE and put a message in the folder. For reasons I can't fathom, text.dbx doesn't show up in the XP Store Folder. I searched both drives for test.dbx and it doesn't seem to exist anywhere!! Explorer Search is set to find hidden files, and I even un-hid the folders just to make sure. Further testing showed I can assign the Store Folder to a location on the virtual machine and all the .dbx files are visible in the new location including text.dbx. But when I change the Store Folder back to the XP Store Folder via network share, test.dbx remains invisible. I know a common Store Folder can be implemented in a dual-boot scenario, but in that case, a network share is not required. So I'm not sure if my problem is related to using a network share, or somehow related to how virtual machines work. Can anyone explain this behavior, or otherwise tell me how to use a common Store Folder for both machines? Thanks David Tag: hlh Tag: 359121

I have it configured in a multi drive configuration with the Operating System (WinXP Pro) on drive C, the Programs on drive D, the Data on drive E, so the Documents and settings folder etc is on E. This is the same configuration as prior to the reinstall. I ghosted everything over to another storage drive prior to the reinstall so I have everything backeup pretty well. Problem: I cannot seem to get outlook Express 6 to import the emails or the address book from the old setup. It says it completes importing the "messages" fine but there is nothing in the mail folders afterward. As to the WAB it shows an error whenever I try to import it. I have tried many different ways to do this. Could it be a problem with identities? I do not know exactly what the old identity could have been. Tag: hlh Tag: 359065

        • Address display for senders I'm new to OE6, finally converting from NetScape 7.1 and Messenger. Long since gave up on their browser. How do I get OE6 to display full address (name & domain) of sender for email when I'm browsing through inbox, or folers of subsequently saved emails? I could always see full address in NetScape and appreciated that fact. Appears to me that OE must flip a coin trying to decide which way to display sender ID. Thanks for any lhelp. • Idea for backup (and removing attachments) Hi I need a backup system for outlook express files. The point is, that there are some 6-700 MB of .dbx files (they store everything!). I can copy the files to CD once a month, but there must be a better way of doing it. As of now, there are 3 computers, so I guess I have some ~2 GB. I know that I can remove attachments - this will help, as there are things there, which can be removed. I usually do this by hand (with EML files), but - editing an entire account / dbx file is a bit harder. I do not know the format of dbx.... if I can remove a lot, that backup is eaier. • Address Book - maybe an old question Plan to do a complete RESTORE of my laptop. Would like to save the address book. Thought it was a .wab file - search found nothing. Where does MS store the address book -or- what is its tag? BTW, did a comp RESTORE on a desktop - was well worth the effort. However, thought the address book went along with the INBOX and like stuff. Not so. Thus lost all contacts on that machine. (Inbox, etc files kept on another physical disk). Thank You for what may be a question asked again and again! Wayne Tag: hlh Tag: 359030

        • OE cannot read dbx files Outlook Express stores dbx files in the following folder: Documents and settings\my name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{F......long alph numeric}\microsoft\Outlook Expess I recenstly restored Windows 2000 Pro, I used WINNT2 instead of WINNT for the new install. Now Outlook Express cannot read the saved messages reported in the dbx file shown in Outlook Express above, they were not lost since Idid an over write instead of format. How do I tell the system now to read those dbx files, they represent ome 40 folders of saved emil messages. Tag: hlh Tag: 359022

        • Spam and junk messages Just wondering... Why does this particular group get so many junk messages? I "hang out" in the Excel groups and we rarely get any junk, and when we do, MS (someone?) removes it. -- Biff Microsoft Excel MVP Tag: hlh Tag: 359018
