ie quits browsing ie erratically
Can any one out here give me any info on why internet explorer 6.1 (patched) and msn explorer will surf for awhile then quit. I'm staying connected all day long, ping's ok, telnet's ok, and even ftp's through ie when it will not http. Its almost like something on this system randomly shuts port 80. I've ran all the latest spyware, hijacker and virus utilitys to no avail

URL Length
I have an interesting situation.
I am supporting an app that opens a page via a very long URL (1723
characters).
In IE 6, it takes 3 minutes or more to open, in Netscape it opens
within five seconds.
Interestingly, if I reduce the length of the URL to 1338 characters,
IE open the page in five seconds, but if I increase the length of the
URL by one character (1339), it foes back to taking three minutes to
open.
Has anyone else witnessed this behaviour? Does anyone have any
suggestions (Other than re-writing the app to not use such a long
URL).
Thanks!

technetID KB321728: NO kerberos support for proxy servers
Hi there,
I've started this thread in the microsoft.public.isa
newsgroup. Agreeing that it wasn't a ISA issue ;o)..
Interesting stuff was mentioned there...
now, the real problem:
We're having a serious headbreaker here... we're using
a proxy server and want to activate the kerberos usage,
but the reseller gave us a reference of a technet issue
321728 mentioning that "proxy server and kerberos
authentication simply doesn't work ..... even as designed".
=> What are the plans of microsoft?
=> patch for IE6?
=> our proxy is a network appliance proxy, but even ms
ISA server 2000 can't handle it?
==> Alternatives? <==
I'm hoping to find a solution for this... as the success
and good ending of the project is depending of this last
step! (using kerberos instead of NTLM negotiation)

IE6 always rejects a particular cookie regardless of privacy/cookie setting
I have an embedded system with a web interface. One of the web pages
has a small JavaScript program that, when run on IE6, always displays
the message that cookies need to be enabled:
if (document.cookie.indexOf('asm_session') == -1)
{
document.cookie = 'asm_session=0';
if (document.cookie.indexOf('asm_session') == -1)
{
document.write("Advanced System Management access requires
cookies to be enabled."+'<br><br>');
}
}
This problem only occurs with IE6, not Mozilla. It also only happens
on some of the embedded systems, but this problem exists for everyone
running IE6.
The problem isn't limited to the Javascript code, either. On another
web page from this embedded system, a cookie is set the normal way,
via the HTTP header. This cookie is also rejected.
When I display any page that attempts to set a cookie, IE6 displays
the blocked icon and says that cookies on that URL are blocked.
However, I have set all privacy and cookie options to their most
permissive. I've spent the past hour changing every option I can find
that's even remotely related to cookies and privacy, and nothing
changes. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Tag: reinstall IE Tag: 269690
IE windows opening differently
Until about a week ago my browser windows opened with the
usual three-button set in upper right corner (minimize-
maximize-close). Suddenly my windows started opening that
way BUT immediately changing to a full-screen window with
a new upper right corner look -- black box containing the
three-button set with a gray bar beneath, PLUS the Windows
logo to the left. If I click on the restore (middle)
button the browser window goes back to the normal look.
WHY is this happening and HOW can I stop it? I'm getting
click fatigue!

Bug in IE 6? Downloading from ftp sites
Has anyone experienced the following:
After setting the security in IE to "do not save
encrypted pages to disk" (in the advanced tab of internet
options), it becomes impossible to download from ftp
sites using IE. When unchecking the box, downloads remain
impossible from ftp sites only...
I did this on two separate computers, and only the user
account where I changed the setting is unable to access
the ftp downloads, whereas all other users still can...

No access from 1 of 2 station network
I cannot access the internet from 1 of my 2 computers.
They are on a LAN thru a router.
Both use Windows XP Home, w/ IE 6.
I've tried hooking up the computer directly to the
external modem (not thru the router). No dice.
I've shut everything down, unplugged, etc. Nothing.
I do not have a firewall activated.
I've run Spybot 1.2, and antivirus scan (F-Prot).
I suspected a Trojan Horse, so I looked up the items that
run at startup, and de-selected all that I believe to be
unnecessary. This didn't fix it.
I show that I have an IP address. I've pinged (gonig thru
the router this time) the Yahoo site, and got a response!
So this tells me there is a connection, right? But I
can't access anything from the browser. Tag: reinstall IE Tag: 269686
posting your email may get you a virus!
just a note of caution on entering your real email
address when posting a thread, shortly after i made a new
topic and used my real email address I recieved 2 emails
disguised as official microsoft emails, which claimed to
be OS updates and had .exe files attached!
i ran a spyware etc check from my pc and they were found
to be malicous content. and i deleted them.
Since i used a macintosh for internet and email i am
quite safe from these kind of attacks, but if i tried to
open them on my win pc they would run and probably infect

In order to get the correct address to appear on the

I have done everything I know to remove these words but

Corrupt SHDOCVW.DLL file?
Been having problems with IE crashing, with the dreaded exception code
oxc0000005. I've seen a few references to the possible culprit being
a corrupt SHDOCVW.DLL file. IE version is 6.0.2800.1106. Microsoft
database indicates SHDOCVW.DLL file date 8/29/02, file size 1,338,368.
I have 3 SHDOCVW.DLL files on the system. One is in
\windows\ServicePackFiles\386, dated 8/29/02, file size 1,341,440.
The two others are both dated 1/21/04, both file size 1,339,904,
located in \windows\system32 and \windows\system32\dllcache.
Looks like maybe two of these should be deleted, and the other one
might be corrupt? If so, which one should be left in, and how do I
replace it with the correct version?
Thanks! Tag: reinstall IE Tag: 269655
Internet Explorer slowdown / no response
Would you suggest a low level format? I have a SCSI drive.

I also noticed when IE starts to slow down I checked task
manager and noticed scvhost.exe is using up 99% of the
resources. Blaster worm in my boot sector? Now for the
gorie details.
I have been troubleshooting a problem with Internet
Explorer slowdown and then no response. I can browse for
a minute and then crawls and I get the blank page "error
page…server not found or something like that) I have a
Dial-up Earthlink account. I originally had win 2k but
elected to go with XP Pro after being affected with the
Blaster worm. I reformatted the drive and installed XP
(Twice) but still have the same problem. I decided to go
back to original Win 2k and installed that along with
Norton 2004 and the Earthlink disk but still the same
problem. I go the cmd mode and ping yahoo.com and it
fails. I am still connected at this time. Before going
on the internet each time I loaded all the critical MS
security patches and install Norton 2004. I used a
Earthlink disk from Office Max (free). Could that be a
problem? Maybe Spyware? Scanning for viruses (Sasser,
Blaster ) comes up clean. Since this is a new install
each time, I haven't run Adware or Spyware.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Tag: reinstall IE Tag: 269650
