    - Frame target does not always work? I have a page with three IFRAME tags, in the classic "menu, banner, content" layout. I use the TARGET attribute of HREF from the menu links to load pages in the content frame. Generally, this works fine, but now and again it just seems to break and starts opening a new window for every link. The links are all static and I can't seem to nail down the cause. Refreshing the frameset causes the links to function correctly again. Any suggestions (apart from "don't use frames")? Thanks.     - No access to some popular sites from some PCs Small workgroup of six PCs, small switch connected to broadband router. 1. On some PCs I can access all web sites without problem. 2. On others I can access some sites but not others, e.g. I cannot access www.epson.com, www.msn.com. 3. One of group 2 is a laptop - take it to another site and it works fine. You could say it is IE6 setup /security but point 3. suggests that isn't the case. Anyway, I've been into IE options, advanced tab and clicked on Restore advanced settings. I've also cleared all history. You could say the broadband/router settings are blocking sites but why randomly and anyway some can access but others cannot. It's driving me nuts! Any ideas, please?     - Browser Is *Slightly* Broken Up until 25-Mar, all was well w/ IE. Using XP Pro, patched up-to-date from WU. No 3rd-party firewall, using Avira AntiVirus Classic and Windows Defender. The browser launches and apparently displays sites normally, until one looks closely. A visit to my bank's website was the 1st indication something was wrong. The text fields used for login didn't render. No blank spot on the page, they simply didn't show up ! Checking out a Microsoft site: (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457078.aspx) The framework of the web page displayed, but the actual content did *not* display. Print Preview of any page displays a blank page that has all of the normal page controls, but is completely unresponsive and can only be closed. Once I realized something was really wrong, I tried to go back to a System Restore checkpoint from a couple of days ago and got some really bad news. The program starts, but the content of the window is never rendered. Apparently, that too relies on IE, which is now broken, therefore System Restore is now completely useless ! Remedy #1, System Restore, no joy. Actually, never attempted. Remedy #2, reloading IE from IE.INF file, no joy. Remedy #3, reinstalling SP2, no joy. Remedy #4, use HijackPro to find IE miscreants. No joy. Nothing unusual found. Remedy #5, installed IE7, no joy. Rendering is still broken ! Can't do a System Restore ! I'm left w/ a single remedy: a fresh install of XP ! I'm in no rush to do that and probably wouldn't be writing this message, if my backup PC hadn't gone down a couple of weeks ago. But even w/ Firefox and Opera on this PC, there are a few things I routinely do that absolutely require a fully-functional IE ! (Can anyone spell System Restore ?) I don't use SR that often, but every once and a while, it's essential. I doubt that anyone can help, but on the off-chance that someone might have encountered a similar issue and resolved it, I submit this message for your consideration. Thanx for your time.     - Random codes is added after the file name When I download a Word.. I am using using IE7 in Windows XP SP2. In other machines, even in the machine which using IE7 and Windows XP SP2, the default file name is "WordDocument.doc" (This name is correct) but in my machine, the default name is "WordDocumentCA3HD2PN.doc".(The random codes is different every time I download the file) why does this happen?     - Internet Explorer locks up after 15 to 20 mins of use. My end users are having an issue with IE locking up after sitting idle for more than 15 mins.. Currently the IE applicaion is running: 6.0.2800.1106CO Service Pack1 Patches include: Q828750, Q330994, Q832894, Q867801, Q823353 and Q833989 I have a home cooked web application that runs using IE6 that my end users use daily to help the companies customers.. This application is what is locking up but as it is a Web application i suspect that IE is having issues with a time out issue on the network or with another applicaiton... The other applications that are ran on the customers systems are Outlook 2003, an applicaiton that is using Terminal server to run and Java Version 1.5.0-07,. (The home cooked application uses Java ) I have tried everything from, checking IE for trojans and or spyware, checking the network for dropped packets, deleting temp files and even defragging the end users harddisk but am still having lock ups on all of my users systems. I know this is alot but if anyone can think of an IE setting, patch or something else to help me check/fix this issue, I would appreciate it !!!     - Auto config LAN settings through Group Policy Using Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP Pro machines, IE6 /IE7 environments: Can someone please let me know the right combination of Group Policy settings to: check the Automatically detect settings option under LAN Settings? We have an ISA server running, and want our laptop users to go out through it when in the office, but not get an error when they are roaming. I can find the setting to enable/disable changing these settings manually, but no way to "check" the Auto detect option through GP. Using Regmon, I can capture a number of settings when I manually change them, but can't quite pinpoint which one is actually "changed". Any help is appreciated.     - Javacam Applet Won't Autoupdate I placed the javacam applet on my web site to update my webcam. The application I use to upload the image to my web site works fine and each time I access the webcam page the image has changed however if I remain on the page through the refresh time it does not refresh. I do not know html code all that well so I don't know if it is something in the code or if I don't have something not set right in IE6. I am also running Panda antivirus software with a firewall. I've gone through the allow what programs through the firewall and think I have changed it correctly. I've tried everything I know so I need other ideas so if anyone can help me I will appreciate it.     - IE6 Scripting Problesm I have a Windows XP machine with two user accounts. On one of the accounts, ie6 works fine. On the other, it appears like scripting doesn't work. Mapquest directions give a scripting error. MSNBC.com will not allow me to set my location and give local news. The MSN Premium sign-in screen will not load - says there is a connect error when I am connect to the internet. I have matched all security settings between both users so I fear there is some registry issue with one account. Short of creating a brand new account, any ideas for a fix?     - Annoying error message when closing IE6 When I close IE6 I get an Application Error. The message is:- The instruction at "0x300ac2e9" referenced memory at "0x00000020". If I try to open this pdf from the website I get an error that says the file is corrupt. I know it is not corrupt because I can save it to desktop and open it.     - Version Vector I have Internet Explorer 6 sp2 and trying to use a program that requires Internet Explore 6.0 and higher. However my Version Vector did not get updated. So this program thinks it is 5.0 or lower. The browser works, but the registry setting is not correct. I have version 6.01 on CD and on the computer I have 6.2??? and since it is older the CD won't installed. I went to the registry cause in some area it does show the correct version. I used the add/remove - windows component to remove it to install the version I had but there must be more entries that was left behind, so it won't install. I saw on another the entries for the version vector. Can I simply export that entries and import it on the other computer? What to do?     - Radio Buttons Displayed in IE I have a problem with radio buttons and check boxes being displayed in IE correctly. The radio buttons and/or check boxes do not display as they should but have either the HTML script or java script being displayed instead.     - Secondary Window Issues Good Afternoon, I have been having ongoing issues with Internet Explorer 6.0 and secondary windows being blank. I have tried almost 'everything'. I've read all of the MSKB's that associate with this problem, and registered the DLL's that everyone has posted on the internet. Even after re-registering it will break again on several PC's. Re-Registering mshtml.dll resolves the issue every time. I see many posts on how to fix it, but what is happened to where it needs to be fixed multiple times!? We also run a lockdown environment, so users cannot install anything. Does anyone know the source of the issue? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.     - Internet Explorer inconsistent launch & display When attempting to launch Internet Explorer 6 from either the desktop icon or from quicklaunch, you briefly receive a hour glass that quickly disappears, the brower does not open on screen. However if you check the Task Manager you will see IEXPLORE.exe has opened and is consuming resources. If you exit the Task Manager (without ending the IEXPLORE.exe process) and return to your desktop, attempt to open the browser again you will see the same behavior, only this time when checking the Task Manager you now have (2) IEXPLORE.exe processes running. If you perform a End Process on the (2) two IEXPLORE.exe and then return to your desktop, you will then be able to open and display the browser. However if you than close that browser and for some reason need to reopen it you return to the previous description of acitivity where the browser does not open and display, and is shown in the Task Manager. This has occured on three different model laptops, all of which had been completely wiped, partitions destroyed, new partitions created and Windows XP Professional w/SP2 installed, all updates applied with the exception of Internet Explorer 7.     - How do I prevent flash player download and install? At work, we are still running NT. Unfortunately, one of the servers is Terminal Server so I have a lot of users using it and surfing. Just about every site in the world is using Adobe's Flash Player, but the latest you can have on NT is version 7. All I want to do is prevent Flash from trying to get the latest version for my users. It's a selfish reason: they keep getting error messages, and the server's hard drive keeps filling up with a million copies of FP_AX_CAB_INSTALLER.exe in DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES folder. So every now and then, I have to clear out 1 GB of junk from there. I have tried setting IE to disable Install on Demand (Other). I even tried putting 0.0.0.0 download.macromedia.com in the hosts file. I hate Flash, but I know it's used. Any idea how I can prevent this? BTW, the error message users get (regardless of admin or not): Adobe Flash Player ActiveX Setup Failed to install. Now, when I'm in a secure web site, some of the links/buttons do not work -- they don't do anything at all, the icon on the top right corner didn't even blink.     - Friendly name for Digital Certificate prompt Hi, A particular website I visit uses Digital Certificates for logging in. I have 6 different Digital Certificates for the site installed, because I login under 6 different identities for 6 different customers. So, when I visit the site, IE6 presents me with the list of 6 certificates for me to choose which one i want to use. As the digital certificate name is just a long sequence of numbers representing my user ID, it's sometimes difficult to remember which one is which. To help, I've used the "Friendly Name" and "Description" fields of the certificates to add info to help me identify which is which. The problem is, the window that IE6 uses to prompt me to choose a cerificate only displays the name and issuer. To see the friendly name and description I have to go into View Certificate, Details tab, and scroll down to check I have the right one. Is there any way to make IE6 show the Friendly Name rather than just the Name & Issuer in the "Choose a Digital Certificate" box?     - Can't fit the top bars onto one row anymore :-( Using IE6 with my widescreen monitor I could easily fit all the top bars onto one row. Using IE7 or IE8 beta I am no longer able to do this.     - Dial-up Connection Windows. I installed a new hard drive and have things running well. I installed a new Money program and now when I open Explorer or Money I get a new "Dial-up Connection" window. It is different than my window when using my old shortcut to dial up.     - IE6 hangs 1. About 75% of attempts to access an internet site result in pc hanging. Progress bar is full with green blocks and left hand side of screen shows "done". Ctrl+Alt+Del shows IE 'Not Running' and End Now produces MS advice about antivirus/antispyware and add-ons. I have Spybot, AVG Anti-spyware, Ad-aware and Avast which are up to date and run once a week. 2. I uninstalled Google taskbar some months ago. Whenever I access Favourites to get to Google search, Spybot throws up a message about Cat: User Specific browser toolbar Change: Value added Entry: ITbarLayout Allow or Deny change. I always deny the change. 3. To try to solve this I ran antispyware/antivirus. Checked security updates - though automatic download is set. It appears that Net Framework 2 service pack has been downloaded but it will not install. 4. Using Dell Dimension 5150 machine with Windows XP (MCE 2005), Intel D Processor - 2.79 Ghz: 2.80 Ghz.     - sign in on web pages expires My client is having a problem signing in to web sites such as E-bay and game sites. He used to sign in once on a session but now they keep signing him out automatically after a minute or two and he has to constantly sign back in.     - Internet not responding Ive noticed a few of these types of questions, not really getting a clear answer. At random times, my Internet becomes unresponsive. Meaning, i click on something, and its as if I never clicked. I keep clicking, and nothing. I have also had a problem of subscribing to groups. I click the subscribe button, my cursor will remain an arrow. Tonight when all this was going on, my screen went white. I had to minimize the screen and open a new one. I have Google toolbar, IE. browser. Keep my computer scanned, have Norton 360, so not a virus. This is becoming very annoying. Its like the page I'm on is "dead". I have a windows xp sp2 pc at work. All my colleagues can visit
http://www.cheu.gov.hk/eng/index.asp
But I cannot with my IE7 (all latest service packs installed). I can browse
all other websites successfully.
Using command prompt ping, my PC can resolve the IP of the website
successfully.
If I download and use firefox, i can browse that website. My PC has Symantec
Antivirus installed with no signs of infection.
So I have no idea why my IE7 fails only for this website.
I have to downgrade to IE6 to make it work. I contacted the website owner
and they said their website has always been available to the public.
ANY IDEAS WHY?
