    - IE 6 wont' start up IE 6 won't start up properly, it takes many tries, yet each try is listed in running program list in task manager programs. Running Windows XP Pro. Dialog box comes up ststing each IE6 try, is not responding, so must manually end each IE6 program when shutting down.     - Browser Helper Object Query Hi, We have a website running on an embedded web server on a device. We are using JSP + struts + tomcat We have a requirement where on click of a link on the web page, some executables should be downloaded on the client machine. These will be executed and will generate some files on the client machine. After successful generation, these will be uploaded back to the server. This should happen with no user intervention except the initial click on the link. We are thinking of developing a BHO which will load in to the browser and when the user clicks on the link, this BHO will download the executable, generate the binaries and uploaded them back to the server. I have tried to clean out all browsing history and use the spybot.com program to remove the spyware and adware that is on the computer. None of this has helped.     - Ineternet Explorer 6 blocks Excel Spreadsheet Hello, I have a couple of users trying to run a report from a website which is supposed to produce a Excel Spreadsheet. When they click on "run" you can see a screen appear for a second and then disappear. I have turned off all of the pop-up blockers but it still behaves as if a pop-up blocker is turned on. I am pretty sure that it is some setting in IE6 because I installed Firefox as a temporary solution.     - Send - dont send error message While using certain websites eg: sky news etc a dialogue box opens up saying that there was an error in ie6 and it will have to be closed and it gives the option to send or not send an error report.     - Needed Pop Up Window won't Pop up! Greetings. Our business group uses an internet based system for reporting all of our programs. I have two laptops and one desktop. Everything works great on my laptops, but I'm having a problem with the Desktop. The system our group designed uses a 'calendar icon' that you have to click on to pick a date (from the calendar that pops up) that your program took place. Once you click on the appropriate date, the date is populated into the report. However, on my desktop, when I click on the icon, nothing happens! It makes the 'clicking' sound you expect when you want something to open, but it does not. On the bottom title bar it says "javascript" when I hover over the icon. The date cannot be entered manually...you HAVE to click on a date for it to be accpeted...but if the calendar won't pop up...I'm stuck. I'm using Windows XP with all updates current. My desktop is a Dell. I figure it has to be something silly that's set in my internet options, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any input.     - Windows XP AND Internet Connection Sharing - query Hi all I have been using ICS for quite a long while now in my existing network. I have also NOT made any major changes at all to my setup apart from changing/swapping my Speedtouch 330 USB ADSL modem for a new one. However, here is my query: - Internet access generally works fine on my Host PC, however I have noticed that it is intermittent on my Client/2nd PC? For example, I was on the Internet yesterday afternoon on my 1st PC - I wanted to go onto my 2nd one to download something off the Net, and what message do I get? "The page cannot be displayed" Why is this and what causes this to happen? I have got my firewall(s) set up to allow ICS and the WMI service is also running on both computers on the network? The Internet is available on my 1st PC as I am connected to the Net on that PC; sop why is it not available on the 2nd one? I tried to use the Windows XP Netdiag utility to see if it gave any clue as to what is going on, yet I can only use it if I am using an Ethernet modem, and the Speedtouch 330 USB ADSL modem is not Ethernet. I would not need an Ethernet modem as I only use the Net to do light surfing and downloading of my emails. I have also tried to use a new crossover cable as well as a network switch to see if this solves the prolem, yet to no avail. Please advise â?? all responses gratefully received.     - IE6 auto close on Java application Hi all, I have a Java application running using Tomcat and Linux. When I open it using http using IE6, it works fine. But, only 2 more of my colleague can open it successfully. For the other 6 colleagues, the IE6 simply close. I try to open the Sun Java Console to see what happen. Even the Java Console is closed with the IE6 at the same time. There is no error message at all. Can any one have similar experience and tell me how to fix ? This PC has a minumum of applications installed and is used rarely. It includes these same essential applications: Microsoft windows XP SP2 with all important updates. IE6 with all important updates.     - What is causing this IE error? I subscribe to an RSS feed on my My Yahoo page that is a technical info blog. When I click on any of its links, the webpage opens normally, but as soon as it is fully opened I get this error: IE cannot open the internet site http/www.... Operation aborted. At this point I cannot print or save the page even though it is open underneath the error-- all I can do is click on OK, then it closes the page. When I tried printing it quickly with my Avant browser it also made the browser shut down after closing the page. What's up with that? Never saw it before in all my years on IE. Got in a bit late tonight - started computer, XP2 currently fully updated, went into IE6 to get Google(default browser) after checking mail, and the page is black with white print - thought my eyes had been effected by too much alcohol?     - drop down menu's not working in IE 6 On my website I have a drop down menu where people can choose which state they are in to access info about reps in their area. Web page is: www.citadelap.com/findarep.php I have no problem accessing this page, or any of the individual state pages. I'm using IE7 and there is no problem when using Firefox.     - Strange - Cannot visit only a specific website while others can I have a windows xp sp2 pc at work. All my colleagues can visit http://www.cheu.gov.hk/eng/index.asp But I cannot with my IE7 (all latest service packs installed). I can browse all other websites successfully. Using command prompt ping, my PC can resolve the IP of the website successfully. If I download and use firefox, i can browse that website. My PC has Symantec Antivirus installed with no signs of infection. So I have no idea why my IE7 fails only for this website. I have to downgrade to IE6 to make it work.     - Frame target does not always work? I have a page with three IFRAME tags, in the classic "menu, banner, content" layout. I use the TARGET attribute of HREF from the menu links to load pages in the content frame. Generally, this works fine, but now and again it just seems to break and starts opening a new window for every link. The links are all static and I can't seem to nail down the cause.     - No access to some popular sites from some PCs Small workgroup of six PCs, small switch connected to broadband router. 1. On some PCs I can access all web sites without problem. 2. On others I can access some sites but not others, e.g. I cannot access www.epson.com, www.msn.com. 3. One of group 2 is a laptop - take it to another site and it works fine. You could say it is IE6 setup /security but point 3. suggests that isn't the case. Anyway, I've been into IE options, advanced tab and clicked on Restore advanced settings.     - Browser Is *Slightly* Broken Up until 25-Mar, all was well w/ IE. Using XP Pro, patched up-to-date from WU. No 3rd-party firewall, using Avira AntiVirus Classic and Windows Defender. The browser launches and apparently displays sites normally, until one looks closely. A visit to my bank's website was the 1st indication something was wrong. The text fields used for login didn't render. No blank spot on the page, they simply didn't show up ! Checking out a Microsoft site: (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457078.aspx) The framework of the web page displayed, but the actual content did *not* display. Print Preview of any page displays a blank page that has all of the normal page controls, but is completely unresponsive and can only be closed. Once I realized something was really wrong, I tried to go back to a System Restore checkpoint from a couple of days ago and got some really bad news. The program starts, but the content of the window is never rendered. Apparently, that too relies on IE, which is now broken, therefore System Restore is now completely useless ! Remedy #1, System Restore, no joy. Actually, never attempted. Remedy #2, reloading IE from IE.INF file, no joy. Remedy #3, reinstalling SP2, no joy. Remedy #4, use HijackPro to find IE miscreants. No joy. Nothing unusual found. Remedy #5, installed IE7, no joy. Rendering is still broken ! Can't do a System Restore ! I'm left w/ a single remedy: a fresh install of XP ! I'm in no rush to do that and probably wouldn't be writing this message, if my backup PC hadn't gone down a couple of weeks ago. But even w/ Firefox and Opera on this PC, there are a few things I routinely do that absolutely require a fully-functional IE ! (Can anyone spell System Restore ?) I don't use SR that often, but every once and a while, it's essential.     - Random codes is added after the file name When I download a Word.. I am using using IE7 in Windows XP SP2. In other machines, even in the machine which using IE7 and Windows XP SP2, the default file name is "WordDocument.doc" (This name is correct) but in my machine, the default name is "WordDocumentCA3HD2PN.doc".(The random codes is different every time I download the file) why does this happen? After Tuesday's updates, I am now getting errors when clicking on links on my
SBS 2003 home page. Selecting a link to a document, which previously brought
up a list of options for that document, now produces a degbugging error.
Embarassingly enough, I can open this fine with Foxfire.

Is this related to permissions in my IE settings?
