    - IE6 slow startup I have a client with a Windows 2000 Pro workstation that has IE 6 startup trouble. After starting the browser, it takes 30 to 60 seconds for the first page to load, even if the default page is blank. After the delay, the browser performs normally, but it happens for every browser window that is opened. I've tried removing all 3rd party add-ons, resetting web settings and even removing and reinstalling IE, with the same results.     - IE does not open the set default mail client after instlalling Windows Live Mail Also posted in the WLM newsgroup: I've downloaded and am testing WLM for certain features, but have not made it my default mail client..... With WLM closed and OE opened, and IE opened, I tried to send a web page by email and WLM opened instead of OE. I closed WLM and checked the settings in IE to make sure that OE was listed as the default mail program, which it was. I checked the settings in both OE and WLM to make sure the former was the default, and the latter was not. I tired again to send the web page via the default email client and again, WLM opened instead of OE. Has anyone experienced this problem? Now, why would this behavior occur when all the settings point to OE as the default mail client? Do I need to go into the folder options, file associations and change the program that sends web pages, or go into the registry somewhere? I know I have to change these options in IE whenever MS performs updates, because the default email program always seems to change to Outlook after MS updates.     - https sites won't load in aol browser, dns not working in IE I have a user who is having problems with her browser, she has AOL 9.0 and Dials up to the Internet Https sites Won't load under AOL browser.. For example clicking settings on the taskbar gives page cannot be displayed. The other strange thing that happens is after aol is minimized, Opening up IE 6 gives an error msg about no internet connectivity and "DNS error" is listed at the bottom... when trying to access any website site. If I type in the actual IP address of a website however it will load in IE 6. I upgraded to IE 7 over a friends broadband connection but experienced the same result. I've ran the latest version of CCleaner, WinsockXPfix.exe, full scan with Spybot S&D 1.52 & updates and it finds nothing.... She is using Symantec Corporate v10 w/ latest definitions I was able to get symantec liveupdate working again by manually putting an entry in the hosts file. So to summarize... DNS appears not to work anywhere across the machine unless you are using the Aol browser... and HTTPS doesnt work within the aol browser. The only thing I stumbled upon close to this error msg was from this site http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/secure.htm which mentions about halfway down: "One more thing to try, that I didn't see mentioned here was to check to see if FIPS compliant encryption algorythms were enabled or not. I have found that enabling this feature will often cause HTTPS sites not to load, and report a DNS error. To check this option go to Control Panel > Administrative tools > Local Security Settings Open up Local Policies > Security Options Verify that "System Cryptogrophy: Use FIPS compliant algorythms for encryption" is set to disabled. You will need to restart the system for this to take effect." However this machine is XP home and local security settings wasn't an option under admin tools... and I searched the reg for this key and system cryptogrophy was already set to disabled..     - sudden and random crashes i am using internet explorer version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920, the default installed version with windows xp home. i have not installed any microsoft updates. i have AVG anti virus and AVG spyware protection programs running on my computer. i test often, so i know that there are no viri or malware on my computer and i have also checked processes with task manager. nothing odd is listed in my process list. SO, i do not understand, why internet explorer seems to randomly crash. i receive no error messages, the window just closes, amidst my browsing process. i am able to restart the program just fine, as well as even attempting to browse the same location successfully. for example. if i go to www.example.com to view a product listed at the site, and my window closes like this, i am still able to go to the same site after restarting iexplore.exe, view the product and have the window not close. my system is newly reinstalled, and i am not missing any files or have any corruption. why is this happening?     - Why my .mht files now "not a valid Win32 application" In the course of my work, I save a lot of web pages as archive files = (mht.extension) for future reference. All of a sudden, when I try to = open any one of these .mht files by double-clicking (or right clicking = and using the Open command) I get a msg that says the file you are = trying to open "is not a valid Win32 application" and the file will not = open. Nor will the file open=20 If I right click and select Open With and then Internet Explorer, it = opens okay. But if I select Open With and then Microsoft Word, I get = the "not a valid Win32 application" message. But if I open Microsoft = Word, do a File | Open and navigate to the file, it opens just fine. I have never had this problem before and cannot imagine what is causing = this behavior, particularly since I can open the file, but just the = "hard way", I am running Win XP2, IE6 and Word 2002. The .mht files = were created using this computer. So far, I have not had any type of similar problem with any other file = types. Anybody have any suggestions as to what the problem might be? I find it = particularly puzzling that the error msg refers to a Win32 "application" = when the file I am trying to open is not an application. Will much appreciate any help. But that's a big problem if we have IE7 and need to run IE6 inside of a virtual machine using VMWare or Virtual PC... since they take up a lot of memory.     - Invalid user name or password I have IE6 on XP SP2. When a user opens a web site on PC "A" and enters a name and password to get access they get "invalid user name or password". When I logon to PC "A" and enter the same name and password I get access ok. When I log that user onto PC "B" the same name/password combo also works ok.     - IE Printer settings not saved I have a custom form size entered in the print media types for one of my printers (Eltron 2442 label printer). I need to use this media size repeatedly when printing from a website in IE 6. The problem is that the media size defaults back to "Letter" each time I open IE or go to another website. The custom form size is 8.50in. by 24in. so letter size will waste the form if selected. I am using Win XP Pro and went to the printers and faxes folder to make the change in the preferences for that printer. After restarting IE the change remains as it should in the printers and faxes folder but when you open IE and select File/Print (select the appropriate printer) the media size is right back at "Letter".     - IE 6 Script error-multiple unsuccessful attempts to fix I get the above error when I try to download updated AT&T Yahoo software (browser and security). I have an older version installed that works fine. The error states: "exception thrown and not caught" with a line #, character and code #'s and the URL: http://att.software.yahoo.com/ysftc/p/att/v4/results?papps=NSO&papps=NSS&papps=YPC I click on "YES" to continue running scripts, and I get a message saying I must be an administrator to install the software. I have tried to reinstall IE6, I have tried to change my administrator file (in case it was corrupt), I have run countless vrus and spyware scans without problems found, I have called AT&T and HP--they can't help. I have signed in as a different administrator on my machine and get the same error message. I have no problems installing other files downloaded with IE6, and otherwise my old AT&T Yahoo software runs fine. I am able to download and install this on my other computers with Win XP and Vista.     - A Runtime Error Has Occurred After Tuesday's updates, I am now getting errors when clicking on links on my SBS 2003 home page. Selecting a link to a document, which previously brought up a list of options for that document, now produces a degbugging error. Embarassingly enough, I can open this fine with Foxfire. An asp popup(calendar) appears and disappears in a fraction of seconds.This
is happening on only one pc and no issues with remaining pcs.Restored all
settings to default(inline with other machines) and checked again but no
use.we are in corporate LAN.

Hi Hari,

The fact that it appears at all, then disappears is perplexing. Have you
tried any of the following?

Cleared out saved Cookies and Temporory Internet Files in IE?
Checked for corrupted plugins by going to Tools/Internet Options/General
Tab/Settings/View Objects and delete any plugin with a status other than
'installed'?
Change screen resolution to a higher/lower setting? Adjusted # of Colors?
Checked the Application event log and look for any errors that occured while
opening the page?
