    - localhost:8080 for tomcat server does not work Hello Group, I installed my tomcat 6.x apache web server on windows xp professional. The http://localhost:8080 page displays itself in my "Firefox browser" however the same url does not display anything on IE, it gives 404 error. What is puzzling that IE and Firefox do display he web application, which lies at http://localhost:8080/tutorial/snoop I have disabled going to proxy for localhost, that did not help either.     - IE reports fatal error everytime the program is exited Disclaimer-I looked for a forum on IE7 but could not find one in the Technet list. Everytime I exit IE7 it generates an unrecoverable error window and says it must shutdown offering the choice of sending a report or not. I have searched high and low for any information on how to fix this problem. It is bad because it kills the core application therefore closing any IE window that is open or in use. I have unistalled IE7 and reinstalled but that did not change anything. I do use Firefox as well and know that some pin the problem on Firefox but I have 4 other machines that are configure with both and just this one has the problem.     - Blank Script Errors ... Please help I'm having issues with Script errors. I tried deleting the account and files and made sure that Documents and Settings didn't have that user anymore. However, when I created a new account, the errors didn't disappear. When I tried to set a password and opened Users from Control Panel, even that User window showed script errors. When the window opens so I can check the script error, everything is blank, Line, Error, etc. I noticed this when I was browsing Overstock.com. When I click on Search(red button), the yellow triangle appears in the bottom left. And when I click on the triangle, the window opens up and there is nothing listed in the window. I might have had this problem before Overstock.com, however that's when I noticed it. I have Windows XP SP3, IE7, All updates.     - IE6 popup only with address bar or favourites My uncle brought his dell laptop to me with this problem OS Win xp home. IE6 if I try to open a site with the address typed inm to the address bar, or from the favourites drop down menu, a blank 'popup' window opens, taking a long time and taking 99% recources. It takes ages to close and if i stop the process in task manager another windo appears. It wont let me download from sites like lavasoft. I downloaded hitmanpro on another computer and ran that and this found lots of trojan, spyware etc but after running it the same thing happened, but a little faster this time.     - UNABLE TO SELECT HOME PAGE Using IE 6 under Win XP Pro (SP3), something has taken over my home page rights under Tools>Options>Internet, preventing me from selecting my own home page and redirecting me by inserting the following into the selection window: http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&clcid=0x0409&pver=6.0&ar=home.     - I am Forced to restart DNS & DHCP in order to use my internet I am being forced to restart my DNS and DHCP services before accessing Internet Explorer 6.0, each time I use IE. Sometimes I need to re-start them 5-10 minutes after opening IE. I am running XP with SP3. This started after a crash and re-install of SP2.I recently tried "net start dhcp" and "ipconfig /registerdns" from the start & run command. I am not sure if this will work or not.     - is it possible to search for a specific thing from web history? I have google toolbar installed so that my history pages are saved perhaps on google server. I sell some items on internet and then print shipping label of fedex so that I can ship the item free by fedex. fedex label of course has a bar code too.     - javascript error in IE6 Gurus - javascript:void(0) I'm getting the above error message when attempting to print from Google maps (or from Yahoo maps, for that matter). I'm on WinXP SP3 and using IE6, and javascripting is turned on. Same problem with Netscape 7.2 (scripting also enabled) and Opera 9.x. (ditto) Seems to be a system problem but I can't imagine what. I should mention that this is my wife's laptop. On my desktop, which also has IE6 and Netscape 7.2 (set to the same settings as far as I can see), everything works fine even without popup blockers disabled.     - How to beat the network firewall Hello group I am using IE6 browser. I just found out that one favorite file source (rapidshare.com) was banned from my network. I tried using the proxy servers which was asuccessful turnaround with firewall protection and my colleagues can access the facebook, friendster,etc, which they can't by direct connection the browser. However whenever I tried rapidshare (yes the webpage can come out but) I can't download the selected file as either the page just refreshes or nust remain static. I have done this several times but now, in their box where I type in the description of my item, I get double spacing and not the usual single spacing. I have done the e mail and live chat thing with eBay and their answer is that this might be a JavaScript issue and that I should change my browser to FireFox. I think this is ridiculous.     - localhost:8080 does not display Hello Group, I installed my tomcat apacke web server on windows xp professional. When I type localhost:8080 in my Firefox browser on the same machine I am able to see the default tomcat page, which certiies that my tomcat is working fine and port 8080 is working for web server. However, if I type the same on same machine localhost:8080 it first gave me server can not be contacted and when I removed my setting for localhost\\8080, it now gives 404 error, <description: The requested resource is not available> Can someone tell me settings which I need to make or IE is not the trusted browser for tomcat server?     - How to lock scrollbar appearance? Dear experts, I need to specify a high contrast style of vertical and horizontal scrollbars in IE windows, or, at least, lock the style of the scrollbars so that the web sites could not override it. This is needed for acessibility. Some sites have very strange color of the scrollbars, such as light gray on white, or light blue on light gray. Now when I click details to see the rest of the message, I received the following: " Internet Explorer 6 could not be repaird due to the following errors: Version 5.50.4134.100 of MSHTMLED.DLL exists, but the version needs to be greater than 6.0.2800.1100" Does anyone know what that means and how do I fix it?     - Favourites are not in alphabetic order with "Add to favourites" This is a different problem from the simple question how to show favourites alphabetically for looking them up. in my PC folders and links are nicely ordered when I use the menu "organize favourites" or just look up an existing link. But for some reason (I guess I once backed up my favourites by simply copying the folder and then copied this folder back) my favourites do not show in alphabetical when I want to add a new link. This means it is hard to find the right folder where to save the new link. There does not seem to be any way to change this. I tried to use the "export favourites" function, then erased all sub folders in the "fabourites" folder and re-imported the exported favourites from the created file "bookmark.html, hoping that they would get sorted during the importation, but they appear again in the same disorder as before.     - IE6 creates secret folder to store temp file? My friend complains that she received a doc file via gmail, edited it, saved it, and then could not find the file again. To figure this out, I send myself a .doc file to my gmail account. I log in gmail using IE6, open the mail, click download (attachment), then click open (I did not explicitly save the file). Word opens the file, I used save as... to figure out where the file is and foud it in Local Disk (C:) documents and settings peter Local Settings Temporary internet files Content.IE5 T23HMKW5 Strangely, when I use file explorer outside of word I found that Temporary internet files is the bottomost level I can get to. There is no Content.IE5 folder. Also, using the same "save as..." dialog, if I navigate up to Temporary internet files, I cannot go back down to content.IE5 (no such folder) either. I found the files by searching for all .doc files on disk C and found a shortcut pointing to that file in the secret folder.     - IE6/7 SSL Problem Hi, We have two Win2003 server with IE7 on. We recently installed an old app which has broken SSL. One machine Ciper is shown as 0 the other shows as 128Bit but neither are working. I have IE 6.0.2800.1106 (spanish) running on W2KSP4 5.00.2195 (spanish) and when I go to the msdn.microsoft.com site, I get always errors and the navigation from the left side bar is impossible. I tested the page on Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista and it works, then I assume the problem is in the computer with W2K, but I don't have any idea where is the problem. Could anyone help me?     - Help! IE won't work with new NIC Hi all, I have an IE6 problem with a work-provided laptop (which means I have limited ability to mess with it). The laptop is running XP Pro SP2 and has both an internal 802.11b NIC and a Netgear Super-G PCMCIA card that I generally prefer to use. So here's the problem: about a week ago, my Netgear card died and had to be replaced. I replaced it with a new Netgear card, but IE refuses to work with the new card *unless* the business VPN is active (which routes all traffic through my office network and is overkill when I'm at home and just want to look at something). All my other network apps work normally (Outlook email, ping, nslookup, ftp) with or without the VPN active. IE (and everything else) works fine with the slow internal NIC regardless of the VPN being active. It seems like IE is somehow locked into using the VPN when using the Netgear connection, but I cannot find any IE settings that are different between using the Netgear card and using the internal NIC. More to the point, IE *used* to work with the old Netgear card and all I did was replace it with a different one. I have googled for similar problems and tried all the suggested remedies: checking proxy settings, flushing DNS, checking host files, etc. with no luck. Is there some setting hidden in the registry that might tie IE to a particular device? I am totally perplexed by this problem. Any thoughts or suggestions?     - ie6 and sp3 mystery After I installed SP3 my shortcut for IE6 vanished as did iexplore.exe from c:\program files\internet explorer. Ixplore turned up in Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and in Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads... I created a shortcut to the iexplore in Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and everything seems to work well. One curiosity: when I attempted to copy iexplore.exe to program files\internet explorer, the message came up that it was already there! Well, Explorer does not show it to be there. Can't figure that one out. When I installed SP3 on my other computer (laptop), iexlore.exe remained in the program files\internet explorer folder. Is there a way to automate the addtion of sites to the Content Advisor using
Group Policy objects. I am wanting to deploy the Content Advisor to multiple
clients and I dont want to have to enter all the approved sites every time I
do it to a client.

On which OS? This is the wrong newsgroup to be asking about this in
but since you haven't specified an OS I can't cross-post it anywhere more
apppropriate.

FWIW my understanding is that you can create .ADM files of your own
which can just about zap the registry any way you want but I have never
done it or even know exactly how it is done.

Once in a blue moon an MSFT replies to questions asked in an IEAK newsgroup
So I can at least try redirecting this discussion there.
