    - How to backup IE7 Favorites sort order? Hi, when I had IE6 the method outlined below worked perfectly to backup the Favorites sort order (to make it clear, I'm not referring to backing up the Favorites which can be done from within IE using File/Import-Export, I'm referring to being able to back them up so I can later restore them in the EXACT same custom sort order as originally, so I don't have to manually drag hundreds of bookmarks to the order in which they were originally). [i]Sort order is not preserved when you transfer favorites to another PC If you use the Import/Export Wizard or manually copy the URL favorites to another system, the sort order will not be copied to the target system. This is because Windows stores the sort order in the registry. Neither the Import/Export Wizard or manual copy operation will reference the sort order registry key. In order to have the sort order applied to the other PC, export the following registry from the source PC: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Favorites Save the above key as a REG file and apply this in the other computer. The sort order is now copied/overwritten.[/i] The issue is that in IE7 I checked that resgistry key but it seems to not have the favorites in the original sort order but ordered alphabetically.     - Security settings I'm actually using IE7 but it's probably the same as 6 in this respect. I am the Comp Administrator and signed in as such. I'm trying to go to http://www.transaction-id.com/thankyou/Software/thankyou.asp?comp=multi&proid=earth I get the Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage message and the "Restricted Sites" tab appears at the foot of the screen. If I pass the cursor over the "restricted Sites"tab I see "Double click to change security settings" but I can't access it. If I go to "Internet Options" I get the message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." Any ideas what to do?     - IE blocking issue A friend is helping me create a little website which contains javascript. When I access the pages from the website, it works fine, but when I access the same pages on my home computer, I get the following message across the top of the IE WIndow: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options..." I can't access the rest of the site online until I click "here" and allow the blocked content. I've tried to change my IE security settings via tools | internet options | security and unchecked everything that seems remotely connected to this issue, without success.     - Tkrouble with Search Engine I am running I.E. 6. When I open IE, I can get my home page and open any sites from my favorites. I can type in a search when I initially open IE, but if I access anything on any site that I have opened, I then cannot do another search without shutting down IE. I can then start over.     - Proxy settings for IE 6 - 2 shortcuts needed Hi, I have a work laptop which I use at work and at home via VPN. While connected to my corporate network i need the connections>LAN Settings>Proxy settings box checked. I understand I can set unique settings for my VPN at home when wanting to connect to work, however this means when at work and using my direct connection, I have to add my proxy settings to my normal internet startup. What i want to do is have two separate iexplorer links on my desktop, one with my proxy settings set, and one without (for when im at home using the internet not connected via VPN). Can this be done?     - Links slow to open or don't open at all... I've got a Win2k box running IE 6 that has started giving me problems. Alot of times when I click on links on a page like Yahoo or MSN, it will show the title/path to the link along the botttom of the screen & eventually say 'done', but will still be on the original page. Same with google - it will show the info at the bottom & just hang there. XP box running IE 7 works just fine, though.     - IE & Language Issue that I have not found I have installed the Chinese language pack and that was ok but even though I have the keyboard set as English I get popups (legitimate) in Chinese. As I have no idea how to read them I am quite frustrated. I also installed Hebrew but it does not do any of those things. Does anyone know how to make it stop? My first choice OR How do I change the language to English if a popup does appear in Chinese? Oh, this can happen to one popup screen when the previous screen came up in English. Also I have done as recommended in other language questions just in case it helps. T thought the language packs only allowed the various fonts to be used not to take over on their own.     - IE6 MULTIPLE WINDOWS OPENING Friend of mine has WIN XP and IE6.0 When opening a web page in the address line at the top of IE, the page opens with multiple pages of the same. eg www.google.co.uk produces page after page of the same screen and carries on doing so.     - Windows explorer has encountered a problem The OS is XP Pro. There are two user accounts: me and she. The problem: when she tries to access a picture that was just sent to "my pictures" or one on her desk top the following message pops up. "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" and the system hangs. Process explorer shows that "my pictures is not responding. Looking at the details has: AppName explorer.exe ModVer 5.1.2600.3119 AppVer 6.0.2900.3156 Offset 0012a5b ModName kernel32.dll But if I log on to my account and go to "my computer" and approach the same file via "docs & settings" and onward to her "my pictures folder", then the jpg picture file opens with no difficulty at all.     - Can't Access Secured Web Sites I am using XP pro and IE6 or IE7 and I am having difficulties accessing certain secured web sites on both IE 6 and 7. It seems that some of the site will allow be to enter a user id and password, but will not let me download information from the site once I have logged on. On some sites I canâ??t even get by the log in screen. What seems strange is that this happens only when the machine is connected to a router (Linksys VR016). I have several other machines (also running XP pro and IE6 and 7) connected to that router that can access these sites without any problems. If I connect the troubled machine directly to a DSL modem there doesnâ??t seem to be any issues. Also, I have used the machine on other networks with a Linksys Wireless router (although I used a cable to connect to the router) without any issues. I would suspect the VR016 router, but why would other older machines work when a newer one wonâ??t. I have also tried disabling the firewall on the router and computer to no avail.     - column width change I use a 3 column format for my ie6 and ie7 display. Several times in the past, the column widths changed for no apparent reason. It usually returned to normal in an hour or so with no action required. I attributed the problem to my.msn.com which I use as my home page. I recently changed to ie7 and it has performed normally until today. Now, the first column covers about 80% of the page. When I drag the column boundaries so that columns 2 and 3 show normally, as soon as I release the mouse button, it snaps back to the 80% column 1 format.     - Outlook keeps changing fonts and quality on signatures At my company, I often get calls regarding people who have their signatures changed by Outlook. We have a rich text format and an HTML pic inserted into our signatures, but they randomly get changed when sending or replying to emails.     - having IE6 and IE7 on the same machine Nowadays webpages are usually tested on IE 7, IE 6, Firefox 2, and Safari... however, IE 6 and IE 7 usually cannot co-exist on the same machine, and so many developer will need to use a Virtual machine and that takes a lot of memory. After starting the browser, it takes 30 to 60 seconds for the first page to load, even if the default page is blank.     - IE does not open the set default mail client after instlalling Windows Live Mail Also posted in the WLM newsgroup: I've downloaded and am testing WLM for certain features, but have not made it my default mail client..... With WLM closed and OE opened, and IE opened, I tried to send a web page by email and WLM opened instead of OE. I closed WLM and checked the settings in IE to make sure that OE was listed as the default mail program, which it was. I checked the settings in both OE and WLM to make sure the former was the default, and the latter was not. I tired again to send the web page via the default email client and again, WLM opened instead of OE. Has anyone experienced this problem? Now, why would this behavior occur when all the settings point to OE as the default mail client? Do I need to go into the folder options, file associations and change the program that sends web pages, or go into the registry somewhere? I know I have to change these options in IE whenever MS performs updates, because the default email program always seems to change to Outlook after MS updates.     - https sites won't load in aol browser, dns not working in IE I have a user who is having problems with her browser, she has AOL 9.0 and Dials up to the Internet Https sites Won't load under AOL browser.. For example clicking settings on the taskbar gives page cannot be displayed. The other strange thing that happens is after aol is minimized, Opening up IE 6 gives an error msg about no internet connectivity and "DNS error" is listed at the bottom... when trying to access any website site. If I type in the actual IP address of a website however it will load in IE 6. I upgraded to IE 7 over a friends broadband connection but experienced the same result. I've ran the latest version of CCleaner, WinsockXPfix.exe, full scan with Spybot S&D 1.52 & updates and it finds nothing.... She is using Symantec Corporate v10 w/ latest definitions I was able to get symantec liveupdate working again by manually putting an entry in the hosts file. So to summarize... DNS appears not to work anywhere across the machine unless you are using the Aol browser... and HTTPS doesnt work within the aol browser. The only thing I stumbled upon close to this error msg was from this site http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/secure.htm which mentions about halfway down: "One more thing to try, that I didn't see mentioned here was to check to see if FIPS compliant encryption algorythms were enabled or not. I have found that enabling this feature will often cause HTTPS sites not to load, and report a DNS error. To check this option go to Control Panel > Administrative tools > Local Security Settings Open up Local Policies > Security Options Verify that "System Cryptogrophy: Use FIPS compliant algorythms for encryption" is set to disabled. You will need to restart the system for this to take effect." However this machine is XP home and local security settings wasn't an option under admin tools... and I searched the reg for this key and system cryptogrophy was already set to disabled..     - Why my .mht files now "not a valid Win32 application" In the course of my work, I save a lot of web pages as archive files = (mht.extension) for future reference. All of a sudden, when I try to = open any one of these .mht files by double-clicking (or right clicking = and using the Open command) I get a msg that says the file you are = trying to open "is not a valid Win32 application" and the file will not = open. Nor will the file open=20 If I right click and select Open With and then Internet Explorer, it = opens okay. But if I select Open With and then Microsoft Word, I get = the "not a valid Win32 application" message. But if I open Microsoft = Word, do a File | Open and navigate to the file, it opens just fine.     - NON ENGLISH LANGUAGE CONFLICTS WITH JRE JAVA PLUGIN The Internet explorer version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2 when we use locale English(United States) the cookie is getting created and the application is working fine but if we change the locale to French (Switzerland) the cookie gets killed. I am searching for the other way round: I want to permit popups for all sites except those which I define in a black list. How do I do this? I cannot resolve a certain web site from inside my companies network but have no problem with others. I can resolve this site from outside the network on both versions 6 and 7.
