Clean reinstall of IE

I have been running into several problems while using IE and I think they
have to do with corrupt files in the installation.
I have tried to reinstall but I always end up with the same version and the
same problems.
Have tried solutions suggested on Microsoft site and other forums, but none
seem to help.
My comp is running on Win 2K SP4. DO NOT want to heve to reinstall Windows.
Please help me out here.

Hi Ari,

Its been a while so I had to revert to a web search to find the answer. This
should be relevant to your OS and IE version.

Hold on everyone, there is an easy way to repair IE6 that none of you have
mentioned. It is built right into IE.

Go to start -settings -control panel - add or remove programs

When you click to remove IE you will be offered the option to repair
instead.

What problems?

To uninstall/reinstall IE6 in Win2K, you must (1) uninstall any Service
Packs that were installed after you installed IE6, (2) uninstall IE6 via
Add/Remove Programs, (3) reinstall IE6, and finally (4) reinstall any
Service Packs. (I doubt doing so will help your problems, especially is
they persist after uninstalling IE6.)

Hi Rob & PA bear,
Thnx 4 ur replies.
Obviously removing the program the conventional was (via addqremove
programs) was one of the first things I tried. The problem is that IE DOES
NOT appear in my remove program list.
Any other ideas ?

Here is a list of some of them:
1. After opening several windows of IE, when I close one of them the rest
get "stuck".
2. Many pages open with the warning symbol on the bottem left of the IE
window, and sometimes they even get "stuck" during their upload.
3. Cannot install MS Update (not sure if this is an IE problem but until I
solve the above problems I can't rule this option out).

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Did you first uninstall any Service Packs (e.g., SP4) that were installed
/after/ you'd originally installed IE6?

Once again, thnx 4 the help guys.
I'm pretty sure It's not a malware/spyware/virus problem. I have the latest
versions of NOD32 and SUPERAntiSpyware running on my computer with regular
scans once a week. Apart from that, I have UnHackMe Monitor load and run on
every startup.
Isn't there any way to completely uninstall IE ?

I'm having a similar problem with my IE6. It takes appx 90 sec to load
any NEW browser window and I notice that the globe in the upper rt
corner of the window doesn't spin as it usually does while loading. I
noticed this starting to happen right after I accepted the most recent
Winows update for my Win2000 Prof (installed Sat 4/12). The update was
Microsoft .netframework 2.0 Svce Pack 1. After I did a restart, the
problem with my IE started. Could there be a connection? Also, I
downloaded to my desktop IE6 Svce Pack 1 for W2K, but when I tried to
run setup for it, I got an error message "access to specified device,
path, or file is denied". When I tried to run it directly, I got an
error message "the file is not a valid WIN32 application"

Does anyone know what this means and why I can't run the setup either
way? Is the solution to really reload my W2K all over again? What is
the inplication of going that route?
