When I close IE6 I get an Application Error. The message is:-
The instruction at "0x300ac2e9" referenced memory at "0x00000020". The
memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

As IE6 seems to work perfectly, getting this error message is simply an
annoyance but is there something I can do to cure this?

Thanks,

Mike

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

Now that you solved my disappearing address bar problem, will you solve this
problem which I also have?
I have the Verizon security package which includes anti virus, anti spam and
firewall. I run into this problem on my son's computer which uses Norton
anti virus.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
