    - Ineternet Explorer 6 blocks Excel Spreadsheet Hello, I have a couple of users trying to run a report from a website which is supposed to produce a Excel Spreadsheet. When they click on "run" you can see a screen appear for a second and then disappear. I have turned off all of the pop-up blockers but it still behaves as if a pop-up blocker is turned on. I am pretty sure that it is some setting in IE6 because I installed Firefox as a temporary solution. The report ran and produced a Excel spreadsheet. -- Thank You, Matt Tag: IE 7 Tag: 403542

    - Send - dont send error message While using certain websites eg: sky news etc a dialogue box opens up saying that there was an error in ie6 and it will have to be closed and it gives the option to send or not send an error report. I had a dell optiplex gx 520 when this problem first came about and Microsoft windows script 5.7 for w2k got rid of the problem but since i've upgraded my pc to a gx745 the script doesn't get rid of the problem.     - web page could not be saved [as web archive] Saving in MHTML format fails for many pages, including Microsoft's own KB such as http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321232. Google wisdom points to the MS02-023 security update, and I don't see a choice to uninstall that under XP Sp2. Is there a particular combination of (looser) security settings to restore the save-as-MHT functionality to its (maybe less secure, but at least working) pre-MS02-023 state?     - Needed Pop Up Window won't Pop up! Greetings. Our business group uses an internet based system for reporting all of our programs. I have two laptops and one desktop. Everything works great on my laptops, but I'm having a problem with the Desktop. The system our group designed uses a 'calendar icon' that you have to click on to pick a date (from the calendar that pops up) that your program took place. Once you click on the appropriate date, the date is populated into the report. However, on my desktop, when I click on the icon, nothing happens! It makes the 'clicking' sound you expect when you want something to open, but it does not. On the bottom title bar it says "javascript" when I hover over the icon. The date cannot be entered manually...you HAVE to click on a date for it to be accpeted...but if the calendar won't pop up...I'm stuck. I'm using Windows XP with all updates current. My desktop is a Dell. I figure it has to be something silly that's set in my internet options, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any input.     - Address Bar - not clearing My address bar autopopulates with a past entry when I type new addresses that begin with the same letter. I have cleared history, temp files, etc. but it still has an address in the address bar. I can't seem to clear it no matter what.     - flash wont run under ie6 Hi xp pro sp2. i have tried to install flash from adobe site http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ says "You have version 9,0,115,0 installed" but www.kfc.co.uk or http://www.xfxforce.com/web/home.jspa?set_locale=en_GB don't run their flash. kfc says install latest Flash and xfxforce says NVIDIA XFX Main Feature Flash using firefox on same machine both sites run Flash. any ideas?     - Windows XP AND Internet Connection Sharing - query Hi all I have been using ICS for quite a long while now in my existing network. I have also NOT made any major changes at all to my setup apart from changing/swapping my Speedtouch 330 USB ADSL modem for a new one. However, here is my query: - Internet access generally works fine on my Host PC, however I have noticed that it is intermittent on my Client/2nd PC? For example, I was on the Internet yesterday afternoon on my 1st PC - I wanted to go onto my 2nd one to download something off the Net, and what message do I get? "The page cannot be displayed" Why is this and what causes this to happen? I have got my firewall(s) set up to allow ICS and the WMI service is also running on both computers on the network? The Internet is available on my 1st PC as I am connected to the Net on that PC; sop why is it not available on the 2nd one? I tried to use the Windows XP Netdiag utility to see if it gave any clue as to what is going on, yet I can only use it if I am using an Ethernet modem, and the Speedtouch 330 USB ADSL modem is not Ethernet. I would not need an Ethernet modem as I only use the Net to do light surfing and downloading of my emails. I have also tried to use a new crossover cable as well as a network switch to see if this solves the prolem, yet to no avail. Please advise â?? all responses gratefully received.     - Upgraded Explorer Now EVERYTHING IS WACK! NEED HELP! Hi, I just upgraded my Internet Explorer and well it just messed up everything on my computer! I can't download from iTunes, I can't log on to my messengers, can't access my emails and I can't even view pages at times IT WON'T EVEN LET ME VIEW GOOGLE!.     - IE6 auto close on Java application Hi all, I have a Java application running using Tomcat and Linux. When I open it using http using IE6, it works fine. But, only 2 more of my colleague can open it successfully. For the other 6 colleagues, the IE6 simply close. I try to open the Sun Java Console to see what happen. Even the Java Console is closed with the IE6 at the same time. There is no error message at all. Can any one have similar experience and tell me how to fix ? Or, can any one tell me to turn on something to see error message or else ? Here is my config. Symantec antivirus (auto-protect enabled or disabled) Workaround: --------------- Change Visio webpage generation option from VML to JPG (or PNG or GIF). Able to load webpage. Would prefer VML, though, due to zooming features. Comparision with "barebones" PC: ----------------------------------- The webpage CAN be read on a "barebones" PC. This PC has a minumum of applications installed and is used rarely. It includes these same essential applications: Microsoft windows XP SP2 with all important updates. IE6 with all important updates. (no symantec, many other programs not installed) Using the debugger, I can see the barebones PC processes the offending line in the webpage above with no problem. I attempted to match essential settings of the failing PC with this barebones PC. Regretfully, no improvement. The changes included: security settings, internet options, uninstalling microsoft vm, unistalling java, disabling add-ons.     - What is causing this IE error? I subscribe to an RSS feed on my My Yahoo page that is a technical info blog. When I click on any of its links, the webpage opens normally, but as soon as it is fully opened I get this error: IE cannot open the internet site http/www.... Operation aborted. At this point I cannot print or save the page even though it is open underneath the error-- all I can do is click on OK, then it closes the page. When I tried printing it quickly with my Avant browser it also made the browser shut down after closing the page. What's up with that? Never saw it before in all my years on IE. Today I found 18 messages from the second week of January showing up as unread needing to be downloaded "get next 1000". They were NOT there yesterday!     - Internet Explorer 6 "The page cannot be displayed" I am having troubles with my browser. My computer (laptop) is connected to my wireless connection, but Internet Explorer will not browse. I have contacted my DSL server, and it was proven to not be their problem. I have contacted Dell, and they ran all tests and found that it is not a hardware problem and they referred me to Microsoft. I have contacted Microsoft, and after their tests, they told me that they cannot do anything because the software version is "OEM".     - Distorted sound only when browsing If I play sound clips from a website the sound starts to distort after about 20 seconds of play.     - Is Google worried about their Carbon Footprint? Got in a bit late tonight - started computer, XP2 currently fully updated, went into IE6 to get Google(default browser) after checking mail, and the page is black with white print - thought my eyes had been effected by too much alcohol? A Google search showed much discussion about saving electricity by using a black background as opposed to white. Ran AV and four antispy progs - all gave a clean result. Does anybody have any ideas?     - Printing, Preview & Open New Page Problems IE6 User A/C Windows 2K Can't find continuation of thread on printing problems -- DLLs in list re-registered except for "scrrun.dll" Error Code: 0X80004005 when trying to re-register "scrrun.dll" - what to do when re-registration is not successful -- version is 5.6.0.6626 with a size of 149 KB What has me puzzled is that this is a problem with regular user accounts and only one power user account; can't figure out how to troubleshoot this pattern?     - drop down menu's not working in IE 6 On my website I have a drop down menu where people can choose which state they are in to access info about reps in their area. Web page is: www.citadelap.com/findarep.php I have no problem accessing this page, or any of the individual state pages. I'm using IE7 and there is no problem when using Firefox. However, I recently have been getting many calls stating that users cannot access those pages. I'm baffled, is this happening because they are using an older version of IE?     - How to stop automatic page refreshing (as present in drudgereport.com) In the Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Custom level settings I've set "Allow Meta Refresh" to Disable, but the drudgereport website still performs constant page re-freshes every minute or two.     - Cannot download updates on Ms or files from other sites (IE7 & IE6 XP Pro SP2) Last few days ... have deleated all files and such via Tools InternetOptions General. Did not help. Problem started in IE6 so updated to IE7 thinking this would solve problem. Did not help. Also the info bar near top does not appear (asking if I want to dl file) the dl box appears and looks like it is dl but no ... after seconds a message says IE cannot dl file from site and IE was not able to open this Internet site.     - Strange - Cannot visit only a specific website while others can I have a windows xp sp2 pc at work. All my colleagues can visit http://www.cheu.gov.hk/eng/index.asp But I cannot with my IE7 (all latest service packs installed). I can browse all other websites successfully. Using command prompt ping, my PC can resolve the IP of the website successfully. If I download and use firefox, i can browse that website. My PC has Symantec Antivirus installed with no signs of infection. So I have no idea why my IE7 fails only for this website. I have to downgrade to IE6 to make it work.     - Frame target does not always work? I have a page with three IFRAME tags, in the classic "menu, banner, content" layout. I use the TARGET attribute of HREF from the menu links to load pages in the content frame. Generally, this works fine, but now and again it just seems to break and starts opening a new window for every link. The links are all static and I can't seem to nail down the cause.     - No access to some popular sites from some PCs Small workgroup of six PCs, small switch connected to broadband router. 1. On some PCs I can access all web sites without problem. 2. On others I can access some sites but not others, e.g. I cannot access www.epson.com, www.msn.com. 3. One of group 2 is a laptop - take it to another site and it works fine. You could say it is IE6 setup /security but point 3. suggests that isn't the case. Anyway, I've been into IE options, advanced tab and clicked on Restore advanced settings. I've also cleared all history. You could say the broadband/router settings are blocking sites but why randomly and anyway some can access but others cannot. It's driving me nuts! Any ideas, please?     - Browser Is *Slightly* Broken Up until 25-Mar, all was well w/ IE. Using XP Pro, patched up-to-date from WU. No 3rd-party firewall, using Avira AntiVirus Classic and Windows Defender. The browser launches and apparently displays sites normally, until one looks closely. A visit to my bank's website was the 1st indication something was wrong. The text fields used for login didn't render. No blank spot on the page, they simply didn't show up ! Checking out a Microsoft site: (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457078.aspx) The framework of the web page displayed, but the actual content did *not* display. Print Preview of any page displays a blank page that has all of the normal page controls, but is completely unresponsive and can only be closed. Once I realized something was really wrong, I tried to go back to a System Restore checkpoint from a couple of days ago and got some really bad news. The program starts, but the content of the window is never rendered. Apparently, that too relies on IE, which is now broken, therefore System Restore is now completely useless ! Remedy #1, System Restore, no joy. Actually, never attempted. Remedy #2, reloading IE from IE.INF file, no joy. Remedy #3, reinstalling SP2, no joy. Remedy #4, use HijackPro to find IE miscreants. No joy. Nothing unusual found. Remedy #5, installed IE7, no joy. Rendering is still broken ! Can't do a System Restore ! I'm left w/ a single remedy: a fresh install of XP ! I'm in no rush to do that and probably wouldn't be writing this message, if my backup PC hadn't gone down a couple of weeks ago. But even w/ Firefox and Opera on this PC, there are a few things I routinely do that absolutely require a fully-functional IE ! (Can anyone spell System Restore ?) I don't use SR that often, but every once and a while, it's essential. I doubt that anyone can help, but on the off-chance that someone might have encountered a similar issue and resolved it, I submit this message for your consideration. Thanx for your time.     - Random codes is added after the file name When I download a Word.. I am using using IE7 in Windows XP SP2. In other machines, even in the machine which using IE7 and Windows XP SP2, the default file name is "WordDocument.doc" (This name is correct) but in my machine, the default name is "WordDocumentCA3HD2PN.doc".(The random codes is different every time I download the file) why does this happen?     - Internet Explorer locks up after 15 to 20 mins of use. My end users are having an issue with IE locking up after sitting idle for more than 15 mins.. Currently the IE applicaion is running: 6.0.2800.1106CO Service Pack1 Patches include: Q828750, Q330994, Q832894, Q867801, Q823353 and Q833989 I have a home cooked web application that runs using IE6 that my end users use daily to help the companies customers.. This application is what is locking up but as it is a Web application i suspect that IE is having issues with a time out issue on the network or with another applicaiton... The other applications that are ran on the customers systems are Outlook 2003, an applicaiton that is using Terminal server to run and Java Version 1.5.0-07,. (The home cooked application uses Java ) I have tried everything from, checking IE for trojans and or spyware, checking the network for dropped packets, deleting temp files and even defragging the end users harddisk but am still having lock ups on all of my users systems.     - Printing Problem I´m having printing problems with IE6, so I decided to re-install it from scratch hoping to the problem solved. When I try to re-install IE, I get this message (my system is in Brazilian Portuguese so I´ll try to translate): The install process can´t download missing files using a not mapped UNC path with drive letters...     - Auto config LAN settings through Group Policy Using Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP Pro machines, IE6 /IE7 environments: Can someone please let me know the right combination of Group Policy settings to: check the Automatically detect settings option under LAN Settings? We have an ISA server running, and want our laptop users to go out through it when in the office, but not get an error when they are roaming. I can find the setting to enable/disable changing these settings manually, but no way to "check" the Auto detect option through GP.     - Javacam Applet Won't Autoupdate I placed the javacam applet on my web site to update my webcam. The application I use to upload the image to my web site works fine and each time I access the webcam page the image has changed however if I remain on the page through the refresh time it does not refresh. I do not know html code all that well so I don't know if it is something in the code or if I don't have something not set right in IE6. I am also running Panda antivirus software with a firewall. I've gone through the allow what programs through the firewall and think I have changed it correctly. I've tried everything I know so I need other ideas so if anyone can help me I will appreciate it.     - IE6 Scripting Problesm I have a Windows XP machine with two user accounts. On one of the accounts, ie6 works fine. On the other, it appears like scripting doesn't work. Mapquest directions give a scripting error. MSNBC.com will not allow me to set my location and give local news. The MSN Premium sign-in screen will not load - says there is a connect error when I am connect to the internet. I have matched all security settings between both users so I fear there is some registry issue with one account. Short of creating a brand new account, any ideas for a fix?     - Annoying error message when closing IE6 When I close IE6 I get an Application Error. The message is:- The instruction at "0x300ac2e9" referenced memory at "0x00000020".     - Version Vector I have Internet Explorer 6 sp2 and trying to use a program that requires Internet Explore 6.0 and higher. However my Version Vector did not get updated. So this program thinks it is 5.0 or lower. The browser works, but the registry setting is not correct. I have version 6.01 on CD and on the computer I have 6.2??? and since it is older the CD won't installed. I went to the registry cause in some area it does show the correct version. I used the add/remove - windows component to remove it to install the version I had but there must be more entries that was left behind, so it won't install.     - Secondary Window Issues Good Afternoon, I have been having ongoing issues with Internet Explorer 6.0 and secondary windows being blank. I have tried almost 'everything'. I've read all of the MSKB's that associate with this problem, and registered the DLL's that everyone has posted on the internet. Even after re-registering it will break again on several PC's. Re-Registering mshtml.dll resolves the issue every time. I see many posts on how to fix it, but what is happened to where it needs to be fixed multiple times!?
