        • Can't fit the top bars onto one row anymore :-( Using IE6 with my widescreen monitor I could easily fit all the top bars onto one row. Using IE7 or IE8 beta I am no longer able to do this. Instead I'm forced to have a big fat collection of top bars comprised mostly of grey wasted space. I don't want to turn any of them off, I just want the Navigation/Address Bar, Menu Bar and Favourites Bar on one row. Come on MS, would it really hurt to let me dock the bars where I like? Hide an 'Unlock Docking' button where newbies won't look. Dek Tag: HI all, Tag: 403220

        • Dial-up Connection Windows. I installed a new hard drive and have things running well. I installed a new Money program and now when I open Explorer or Money I get a new "Dial-up Connection" window. It is different than my window when using my old shortcut to dial up. That window I have used for a long time. The new window has a 16 character password that I have not idea where it came from. How do I dispose of this new window so I only get my old window to use. Where did this new window come from? If I dispose of this new window connection what will I lose? Tag: HI all, Tag: 403207

        • IE6 hangs 1. About 75% of attempts to access an internet site result in pc hanging. Progress bar is full with green blocks and left hand side of screen shows "done". Ctrl+Alt+Del shows IE 'Not Running' and End Now produces MS advice about antivirus/antispyware and add-ons. I have Spybot, AVG Anti-spyware, Ad-aware and Avast which are up to date and run once a week. 2. I uninstalled Google taskbar some months ago. Whenever I access Favourites to get to Google search, Spybot throws up a message about Cat: User Specific browser toolbar Change: Value added Entry: ITbarLayout Allow or Deny change. I always deny the change. 3. To try to solve this I ran antispyware/antivirus. Checked security updates - though automatic download is set. • Internet not responding Ive noticed a few of these types of questions, not really getting a clear answer. At random times, my Internet becomes unresponsive. Meaning, i click on something, and its as if I never clicked. I keep clicking, and nothing. I have also had a problem of subscribing to groups. I click the subscribe button, my cursor will remain an arrow. Tonight when all this was going on, my screen went white. I had to minimize the screen and open a new one. I have Google toolbar, IE. browser. Keep my computer scanned, have Norton 360, so not a virus. This is becoming very annoying. Its like the page I'm on is "dead". Does anyone know what is causing this? Ive not really changed to much since this started, if anything i have less add ons than before. Its been happening for about 1 week. Thanks for any info! • Comcast.Net Homepage Hi: I and apparently a lot of others are having problems with getting Comcast's homepage to fully open. I have Googled this problem and no one seems to have an answer and neither does Comcast. I have contacted their Tech Support via phone, chat line, and now email and have gotten absolutely nowhere in finding a resolution to this problem. In addition, the problem is sporadic in that sometimes, not very often, it will in fact fully open. I might add this problem appears only with my Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.11 and not with Opera 9.26. I have emptied everything with IE except the kitchen sink, reinstalled Adobe Flash Player after completely uninstalling it and everything else that I can think of to no avail. There were some postings about Linksys router causing this problem due to firmware, but I have completely bypassed my Linksys router and still have this problem. I ran from cmd prompt Release/Renew my DHCP. If anyone has any suggestions as to what might be the cause of this problem I sure would love to hear from you....and apparently lots of others as well as Comcast! Thanks, ColTom2 Tag: HI all, Tag: 403169

        • change proxy server programmatically Hi, I have Windows XP and IE7/6/5 and I need to have some programmatic way of changing the proxy server (anything will do from scripting to IE addons to a third party application). The key here is that I need the proxy change to take place immediately without closing and restarting IE (if you could restart IE it's very simple - just change the corresponding registry key). That's the problem - I mustn't restart it. :) Any kind of solution or hint would be appreciated. I know some people directed me to IE7 Extension Development forum and I'm thankful for that. I'm fishing for some more solutions/locations. Any other web resource / forum which might be helpful in this respect would be really appreciated. Cheers :) Tag: HI all, Tag: 403105

        • IE 7 freezing Hi i've been experiencing this problem for some time. Whenever I apply changes to the internet options file in IE 7 the app freezes and it closes unexpectedly citing a rundll32.exe failure. I've tried reinstalling IE 7 but that just creates the problems of not being able to change the homepage from "en.us.acer.yahoo.com" which auto redirects to "acer.yahoo.com". When I do that it solves the problem of Internet Options not freezing up, but creates an even more annoyying problem. How can I get ie 7 to stop freezing in internet options and let me carry out what I want to do Tag: HI all, Tag: 403094

        • Frontpage Action I am still using IE 6 on one computer running W2K and IE7 on a computer running XP Home. I publish several web sites and have used "Hover Buttons" for linking locally in the site. Neither IE 6 or IE 7 will actually go to the link. When I visit the same site with FireFox there is no problem and the link immediately is established with the hyperlink associated with the Hover Button. When I use either IE browser and hover over the Hover Button the selected highlight color is shown glowing as it is supposed to. This feature used to work a while back. I do not remember how long ago it did work but it has been numerous 'upgrades' and 'security fixes' to IE in either flavor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. • homepage I have IE7, but have a problem getting rid of an unwanted homepage that keeps coming back no matter what I've tried. It's titled: http://www.searchnut.com/?domain=awesomehomepage.com. I changed Internet Options numerous times back to MSN, but it returns next time pc is started. Could not find it in Control Panel, or in Programs. I do not appreciate what it shows. If the same user is made a member of Administrators they can get these sites from the same user profile. • *** IE redirect to new page with named anchor I'm having an issue that I can only produce in IE I develop web sites using Cold Fusion, Perl, etc. and discovered a problem that I can reproduce in IE (6 | 7) on IIS or Apache, with any language. If I redirect (302) to any page targeting a named anchor, #top, IE thinks that the named anchor is part of the page URL and any other click to local named anchors forces a page reload. Example: In the following page, I've created a window.onunload() to alert('Unloading...'); to detect the reloading. http://www.blueletterbible.org/dan.html Navigating to named anchors works as desired. This simple script redirects you to that same page, but anchored to the first, #1, named anchor. http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/dan.pl If you follow any local named anchors, you'll see IE reloads the page as if it were navigating to a new document and then all is normal again. By altering the script to only redirect to the page, with no anchor, everything works as desired. I can produce the same problem with Cold Fusion or any other language regardless of the platform of the web service or the browser. It only happens to me with IE and not other tested browser. Is this a known issue and are there any decent work arounds? No, not using named anchors as a target of redirection is not a work around for us. -Dan Tag: HI all, Tag: 403066

        • Outlook Express Email Receiving Problem Someone in my address book all of a sudden is having problems sending emails to me. It just started about a month ago. Following is the message they receive: "Your message was not delivered because the destination computer was not reachable within the allowed queue period. Most likely there is a network problem that prevented delivery, but it is also possible that the computer is turned off, or does not have a mail system running right now." What is strange is that some emails from the person are received and some are not. Is it a firewall or spyware protection program that is interferring? I currently have the email scanning feature turned OFF on the Norton Protection Program installed which came free with my AT&T DSL service. • Mp3s downloading as mpegs I'm a web designer and have just started having a strange issue with IE 6 and 7. Anytime I try to download an mp3 file from the web, it saves it as an mpeg movie file and only gets part of it at that. I can't figure it out. It seems to do that on various people's computers, not just mine. I have one client that it does the same thing but another that can download fine in IE. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this to happen? Its a recent occurance and I'm not sure if its asscoiated with a recent update or not. Here is one page in particular that I've been struggling with: http://www.saveourtrain.com/song There is a link in the middle to the mp3. But i tested other mp3's and all do the same thing. Thanks! Now I have a single client (W2K, IE 6.0.2800.1106, SP1) who has a strange problem. Every time, the client sends an async.-POST-xmlhttprequest, IE sends the request succesfully after 5 minutes - i don't know, what IE does during this 5 minutes. For test you can visit https://www.schuldenonline.at/connection and make a single request or send multiple requests. Besides: I know there are problems when using SSL, IE 6.0 and the parameter "keep-alive". Therefore the connection after every request will be closed. Can anyone help me to find out what the reason for this strange behavior is? Thanks Ludwig Pfefferkorn IE 6 hangs after XmlHttprequest for 5 minutes Tag: HI all, Tag: 403037

        • Why are cookies stored in 2 different places on PC-Windows XP Home Have Windows XP Home, SP2. Running IE6 on one P and IE7 on another. I never log on to administrator account and only log on to an account called HOME. I am a home user I have a program that cleans out various files and folders..called "IE Privacy Keeper" but of course such a program and most programs cannot delete index.dat files. Only can delete them on bootup in a bat file or by other means (while not in Windows). But that is another bag-o- worms entirely... Anyway I notice that on both my machines cookies are stored in two places and do not know why. One place: C:\Documents and Settings\Home\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files (stored in here with bits and pieces of web sites for faster loading) Other directory: C:\Documents and Settings\Home\Cookies Thanks for any insight as to why they are stored in both places and what determines this... • "Auto Detect Settings" taking a long time on some clients We run a proxy.pac file which location gets issued to users via DHCP option 252. All of our clients run XP SP2 and IE6 and the DHCP and IIS servers are running 2003 R2. NB: WE DON'T RUN ISA The proxy.pac file is fairly basic, where it matches the clients IP and directs it to the proxy servers. We have 400 clients. It has been running for 18 months without any issues until recently. Some clients (maybe 10) have started getting 30-60 second delays when starting IE with "Detecting proxy settings". Eventually it works fine and we can see the users browsing session on Webmarshal. Does anyone know why all of a sudden we have started to get these delays? Tag: HI all, Tag: 403031

From what I understand if I reject all cookies, many websites won't interact well. Is it true that any website I visit can read ALL of my cookies? This would mean that they could access my name, usernames and other information I typed into other websites. What is the best strategy to balance security with usability when it comes to cookies? • The Exception Illegal Instruction Using Windows 2000 SP4 IE 6.0 I was occasionally getting this message. Now I get it everytime I reboot and am unable to use IE: SysFader: iexplore.exe Application Error The Exception Illegal Instruction Attempt was made to exectue an illegal instruction [Oxc000001d] occured in the appliction at location Ox30055a77. Ok to terminate Cancel to debug. I've scanned this newsgroup but can't find the same problem. I used Elephantboy to do a sysclean (I don't know what that means, just followed instructions on the site) Have run Spybot S & D. Sysclean noted some Error<-94> but no viruses. I don't have the Windows disk, as this is an old computer. I've searched online for a solution but can't find anything. Ideas? Thank you. Becky Tag: HI all, Tag: 403016

        • IE has processor pegged at 100% in Vista 64bit I am running IE in 32bit mode on Vista with about 10 tabbed windows of IE open. My processor is pegged and when I close them down then the system returns to normal. Is there a way to make it so IE doesn't hog the system? Should I be running the IE 64-bit version? Thanks Tag: HI all, Tag: 403013

        • Links In IE6, each time I shut down my links under the address bar rearrange themselves alphabetically. It's a pain to rearrange them every day. Tag: HI all, Tag: 403011

        • IE starts process but no window Sometimes, when I try to launch IE6, no window opens. The mouse changes to an arrow with hourglass briefly, but the window doesn't appear. Opening Task Manager shows that the IEXPLORE.EXE process is running, but nothing in the Applications tab. Doesn't happen every time, but enough to be annoying. I'm running XP XP2 on an older system ( Dell Dimension 4100). The only recent change was replacing the monitor with a Dell flat panel. I've scanned for viruses and spyware and all come up clean. Googling hasn't found any solution. Any ideas? Tom Tag: HI all, Tag: 403005
