A couple of months ago I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720 with Vista. I used PC
mover to transfer all data from my Dell Inspiron 5100 running XP to the 1720.
Now I believe I have updates and hotfixes from my 5100 on my 1720. Does
anyone know if I can delete them? Or will deleting them cause me more
problems than I already have.
1. Cannot download or install most updates, some do get through.
2. Cannot create restore point.
3. Cannot uninstall programs.
4. Cannot install upgrades from a CD.
5. Currently disabled windows firewall, and deleted McAfee. No other
firewall as far as I can tell.

Any comments and/or help will be appreciated.

Have you tried to create a restore point in Safe Mode?
If you can, I would go ahead and delete them.

Did you use the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool?

Why didn't you use Windows Easy Transfer
(http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/archive/2007/02/15/using-windows-easy-transfer.aspx)
instead of PCMover? Chances are that you would have avoided these issues.

As this is not an IE-specific issue, let me point you to the Vista-specific
newsgroups:

I used PC Mover because when I was searching the web for information on how
to transfer from one computer to another Dell recommended PC Mover.

Yes. But I keep getting a message telling me I can't restore in safe mode. I
tried to use the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool but when I try to
reboot as it tells you to I go into a never ending loop trying to update and
it never closes.
