Hi,
I use win2k and now everytime I open ie it keeps directing me to the
following page.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx
I have google as my home page and would like to stop being redirected to the
above page as in the system requirement, it is not compatible to win2k. Is
there any solution for it?

Hi,
In Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing, uncheck "Automatically check for
Internet Explorer updates."

Hope this helps,

I have the same problem in XP since installing service pack 3. I also do not
have the auto. ck for IE updates checked. Adwatch and Spybot can't even stop
this and I already have IE 7. I guess MS is trying to drive me to use
another operating system.

Hi,
One of your third-party security programs may have interfered with the
installation of SP3.

I would uninstall SP3, reboot, then uninstall IE7 (if the option is present
in Add or remove programs.)

Restart then download
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx and install IE7
making sure that antivirus/antispyware programs are disabled, *especially*
Spybot and TeaTimer.
IEBlog IE7 Installation and Anti-Malware Applications

Follow *all* other advice at
Known issues - Installation tips - IE7:
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html

Restart, then reinstall SP3.

Hope this helps,

Hi Don,
I have reinstalled IE7 with out reinstalling SP3. Seems to be working now. I
have not reinstalled SP3 yet as I want to wait and see if others have issues
with it. I might add that I am running XP Media which seems to be a version
of XP pro. It may have issues that differ from the other XP versions.
In any case thanks for the help.

Hi,
These *and other* third-party programs can lock the IE homepage. Examine the
settings of security/privacy/antispyware programs for the option to lock
homepage, lock IE control panel, lock IE settings, etc.
Spybot (Advanced Mode) Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Ad-aware Pro
Norton AV 2006 (Web Browsing > Spyware protection)
McAfee AV or Antispyware
Spyware Blaster
Spysweeper
Zone Alarm- free and pro.

If you don't wish to dig through settings of whichever security/privacy
programs you have installed, you may be able to startup in Safe Mode, change
the homepage then restart the computer. That won't always work- an earlier
version of Zone Alarm free had to be uninstalled.

In Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing, uncheck "Automatically check for
Internet Explorer updates."

Whenever I uncheck "Automatically check for Internet Explorer updates."

It gets turned back on.

How do you turn it off and keep it off ?

Thanks.

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to
make. A few, but not all, of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
Kaspersky
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.
