been on this now for over 8 hours, have re-installed ie, sp2 , and am almost
ready to either go to another browser or fdisk the hard drive and start over.
either print preview or print gives the same error,
script error line 1008 char 1 .
what would really be neat is if i could see what is on line 1008 in whatever
script that it's trying to run.
have re-registered all dlls, except for mshtml.dll, gave a registration
error. , have disabled all 3rd party browser extensions and , last but not
least, surf fairy is not installed on the machine.

i used the fixoeprint.cmd that i downloaded , yes it has the ole32.dll listed
as one of the ones that it registers.
here is the contents
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll
regsvr32 iepeers.dll
regsvr32 ole32.dll

i think, unless im mistaken, that the 1008 has significance. it seems that
different solutions to this problem vary according to which line number the
error occurs on.
but havent found any solutions based on line 1008 error.

have done that, along with others, in fact here is the contents of the
fixoeprint.cmd file.
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll
regsvr32 iepeers.dll
regsvr32 ole32.dll

dont think that this is the fix for the line 1008 error.

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.

Is this a networked printer? Please post the complete script error.

Install a Script Debugger then. Alternatively you might want to try IE8b1. ; )

Another thing you can do is open the TIF viewer (Alt-T,O,Alt-S,V)
Sort by Last Accessed and drag any likely looking script files to
an open Notepad window. Make sure you turn off Word Wrap
and turn on the Status bar to see line numbers there.

> have re-registered all dlls, except for mshtml.dll, gave a registration error. ,

Instead of re-registering modules or boot time repair procedures
IE7 users now have RIES. Registration has been removed from mshtml.dll
and registering shdocvw.dll is known to cause an incompatibility.
However, uninstalling and reinstalling it should have the same effect as re-registering
modules and be less disruptive as far as customization goes.

Well perhaps there is some other third-party program you have
installed which is interfering? E.g. some toolbars can't be disabled;
to test if they are causing your symptom you would have to uninstall them.

Good luck

dont think that print preview uses any script that will show up in the viewer.

i think i will try ie8b1 but im skeptical. im getting the same error after
upgrading from ie6 to ie7 but ill try it and see.

You originally posted that you "re-installed ie, sp2..." Did you uninstall
SP2 (returning the machine to WinXP SP1) and then reinstall it, or did you
reinstall Windows (and the machine came with WinXP SP2 preinstalled)?
Assuming the latter, did you do a Repair Install or did you format and
reinstall? Is this printing problem the reason you reinstalled Windows or
were there other problems?

Did this problem occur before IE7 was first installed? (NB: I am /not/
asking if the behavior persists in IE6 after uninstalling IE7.)

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were all of these disabled when you first installed IE7?

Is this machine fully patched at Windows Update?

Don't "dont think"! Try it. If you are in a Working Online state you may have to
scroll back until you can find some references to "Internet site" res://ieframe.dll/
especially if the thing that you are doing a Print Preview of is not a local page too.
E.g. perhaps open About:Blank in Work Offline state; then do a Print Peview
of it. Then the Print Preview components will be more obvious to you.

i deleted all temoprary internet files so that i could find the script
easier, and then did a print preview. no script to be found even though it
gives a script error.

I have no idea what you are doing wrong. If the TIF Viewer was already open
you would have to press F5 again after the Print Preview. If you're not using
the TIF Viewer, e.g. trying to use commands in a cmd window, they might not
show there since they are just references within res://ieframe.dll/ and therefore
not really needed to be cached.

thought of that, that's why i did the print preview, then went to start

i think that preview.dlg is embedded in some cab or something. i cant find
it by searching for files either. am looking for source to previes.dlg

res://ieframe.dll/preview.dlg

Open that. Then use View, Source on it. Note that that isn't active
but you should then at least be able to see that file and some of its components
in the TIF Viewer after that.

If you don't have IE7 you could do the same thing with

res://shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg

BTW I wonder if your Folder Options are the problem?
FWIW I have Show hidden files and folders active
(among other options which are designed to keep users oblivious
of XP's implementation.) Note that Folder Options are one
of the options in the TIF Viewer's Tools menu.

that worked, saving the source after opening res://ieframe.dll/preview.dlg,
and then viewing source. problem is that there is no line 1008 . stops at
line 204.
so still wondering how to debug. maybe need a script debugger or something
so i can step through it and see where it's failing.
