I am not able to access any site starting with login.live.com. From any live
service, I click the sign in link (in Internet Explorer )and it takes me to a
blank white page. When I try to log in in Firefox, it takes me to the sign
in page like I would expect it to. It also works in Firefox using the IE tab
extension, but I am unable to sign into any live service in Internet Explorer.

I have tried disabling the windows live sign-in helper add-on in Internet
Explorer, but that did nothing to fix the problem. Also, I am able to log in
just fine in Internet Explorer on our other computer, just not on this
computer.

I originally emailed windows live support, by the redirected me here.

Hi,

Which version of Windows?
Which version of Internet Explorer?

First...
With the warning that a reset will delete autocomplete data, such as
passwords and you will have to reinstall browser add-ons, work through this
article:
936213- How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213/en-us

More on what Resetting IE Settings will do...
923737- How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737/en-us

Next...
Delete all cookies or find and delete cookies from msn, live, hotmail,
passport, microsoft. From Internet Options> Privacy, allow all cookies or
specifically allow cookies from live.com.

Then, if necessary...
Turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall and
disable any third-party firewall, security suite, other security programs to
see if a third-party program is causing the problem.

Hope this helps,
Don

I tried what you said, and it didn't work. I'm running Vista Home Premium on
a Dell and the OEM version of IE 7 The firefox version that it works in is
2.0.0.14 and the IE tab extension the it works in is version 1.3.3.2.... If
you don't know, IE tabs is a firefox extension that allows me to open an IE
tab from within firefox.
Thanks for helping...

Hi,

Try adding live.com to Trusted Sites. From Internet Options> Security>
Trusted Sites> Uncheck "Require server verification" and enter the site as
*.live.com

Does the problem persist if you right-click the IE icon on the desktop and
choose Start without add-ons?

Do you have a Norton security program installed such as Norton 360?

Live support told me to try here for support. I added *.live.com to the
trusted sites, but that did not work. I have also tried running it without
add-ons, which did not work. I do have norton 360 installed, and it still
did not work when i disabled the firewall the auto protect features of the
program.

no, I have Qwest DSL. What is weird is that on the other computer, which is
running windows xp and also has Norton 360 installed, it works fine. Could
it be something in Vista or the way that Norton 360 works with vista?

Many experts feel that all Norton applications are incompatible with any
Windows version.

Have you contacted Live.com Support?

I have contacted live services and they told me to try IE support,, which is
why I'm here.

As a test, turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows
Firewall. Then uninstall Norton 360 and run the uninstaller from
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?OpenDocument&lg=en&ct=us&seg=hho&src=hot

See if Norton is the culprit.

I say to uninstall Norton and run this utility:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then get Avast, which is free for home users (www.avast.com).

Is there a way I can start in Safe mode or use msconfig to disable norton
services, rather than uninstalling it, which would be a pain since all our
backups are tied to it?

That's not that unusual actually. Usually deleting Cookies (as you were told first)
can change that symptom but sometimes it is just a problem caused by the original
server. Often pressing Refresh completes a stalled redirect.

> When I try to log in in Firefox, it takes me to the sign in page like I would expect it to.

That isn't necessarily relevant. E.g. the page that Firefox is given may be
completely different from the one that your IE is given.

> It also works in Firefox using the IE tab extension,
> but I am unable to sign into any live service in Internet Explorer.

Does that submit exactly the same request, get exactly the same response
and process it identically? You could try using Fiddler2 to check that.

Then that's an even better reason to try Fiddler.
E.g. you could capture traces for both cases and compare them.
Besides the content of the requests and responses
you might also have to look at the timing of each.

Ok, thank you all for the suggestions. I don't have time to try them now,
but I will when I get a chance(tomorrow). I've been having a problem with
sidebar that Service Pack 1 support is helping with (It loads empty white
boxes, etc). The solution to that problem might solve this one, since I'm
sure IE is somehow tied into Sidebar.
