    - Tools - Internet Options Went to see a friend tonight. I suggested he checked his cache size - we tried to do it but the Tools- Internet Options" would not open. It merely flashed for a split second. In Control Panel the usual "Internet Options" had no title and wouldn't open. Any pointers for a simple fix.     - It's hard using IE4.0 I am using Windows 95 (I have got to be crazy) inside of virtual pc in Vista because my "Dependancy service/group" died.     - cookies resetting to lowest in internet options when starting brow It all started when I had problems with setting up my network. I heard that Norton can cause problems, so I uninstalled it. During the uninstall process, I think Norton gave me a parting gift. (A couple viruses and some spyware and Malware) Since then, I reinstalled Norton, also installed Ad-aware, ran full scans, and more scans every other day. Keep getting more viruses, trojans, ect. Also Norton is telling me it blocked an attack from....My own PC!! I seem to have everything cleaned up now, but the cookie setting in Internet options keeps resetting to the lowest setting. I created a shortcut on the desktop and reset it myself several times a day. I tried uninstalling IE 7 and still had the same problems. I also have repeatedly deleated the cache and offline content and add-on info. also tried expermenting with disableing add-ons. This is as far as my computer knowledge takes me, can anyone out there help me out? (sorry for the dragged out question) ( I have figured out how to get my network running, just having problems with the cookie setting dropping.) Using IE-6 or 7 and also MSN explorer.     - Sound files for IE7: Where are they? I have annoying problem with IE7. When I try to delete a mail, IE asks me "Are you sure ? " with an UGLY beep. I looked under Sounds in Control Panel and cant find the sound file for it. I would like to change or delete this sound but I cant find where it's located. Is it built into the code?     - IE7 Tabbed Browsing Vista I have lost almost all my toolbars in IE7 on vista and all my options to tab browse. I don't need to press F11 as I can get access to the File, Edit menu. Right clicking on the menu bar does not give me any further toolbar options, the only toolbars I have access to are the Menu and Links tool bar. What I can't get is the home, favourites buttons and any new tabs showing. If I want to open another website I have to go to File and open a new window.     - punctuation displayed incorrectly Apostrophes are displayed in IE7 as "a" with a accent mark above it, followed by a greek "Epsilon" character, then a "Trademark Sign".     - Make IE prompt to save a .csv file rather than opening it in a We are accessing one of the websites on Win XP Pro that provides an option to download a file, but rather than prompting to provide a file location on local computer, it opens up that file directly in IE browser. It will prompt to save that file on one of our XP computers but the other XP computer will opens that file directly in a browser so i am thinking it has to be a configuration/settings issue on the other computer. I went to Windows Explorer, Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types, selected CSV from the list and click on advanced and both computers have "Confirm Open after Download" option checked.     - WMP 11 won't open mpgs while browsing Am running Vista and was working ok until recent install of WOW music program. Now WMP will not open mpegs while on line. I can only either save the file to my pc or cancel. After un-installing the WOW program I now get "unable to connect" message, as in network connection has failed. I've compiled the problems and put them all into one issue here instead of creating separate issues for all of them. -- 1 -- : Keyboard handling: It's very straining to use Vista/Server 2008 by keyboard. It should by far be better supported, like in the previous Windows versions. Current drawbacks are: -- 1.1 -- : Common Dialog File Open/Save boxes are missing keyboard shortcuts, e.g. for creating new folders (previously <ALT>+<F>-<W>-<F>). -- 1.2 -- : Using Windows Explorer with the keyboard becomes horror: -- 1.2.1 -- : Opening Windows Explorer (=WE) with <FLAG>+<E> gives focus to the ListView instead of the TreeView control. So a reverse Tab <SHIFT>+<TAB> is required to navigate the tree. (It's very uncommon that any action is required at the "Computer" node, so TreeView navigation is usually *always* the first thing to be done in Windows Explorer.) -- 1.2.2 -- : Navigating the WE TreeView doesn't update the ListView. It's required to hit the [RETURN] key to get the ListView updated. This makes browsing quite awkward to do. -- 1.2.3 -- : Tab sequence in WE is very strange! Usually, switching focus between TreeView and ListView is just a one-tab sequence (you just have to press the <TAB> key once). But after hitting [RETURN] on the TreeView, the ListView becomes 4 <TAB> hits away! -- 1.3 -- : SQL Server 2005 Management Studio doesn't provide a quick "Open Database Connection" shortcut (previously <CTRL> + <O>, now only <F8>-<ALT>+<V> [on German version]) -- 1.4 -- : Internet Explorer 7 doesn't provide a shortcut for setting focus to the address bar (formerly <ALT>+<D>). So it's very hard to correct typos after hitting [RETURN]. (Awkward, but yet best workaround: <CTRL>+<E> - <SHIFT>+<TAB> - <SHIFT>+<TAB>) -- 1.5 -- : The new Start menu is very unhandy. Just mentioning it to keep the classic view available in future Windows versions: I've traditionally arranged my (classic) start menu tree in a way to quickly reach any program by simply pressing the <FLAG> key plus the first letter of a Start menu entry to finally reach a program entry (e.g. <FLAG>-<P>-<O>-<W> which is "Programs - Office - Word 2003" ...or... <FLAG>+<P>+<D>+<8>+<S> which is "Programs - Development Tools - 8_Visual Studio 2005 - S_Visual Studio"). (This is more easy to do in German than in English because of default entries starting with the same letter in English [e.g. "Accessories/Administrative Tools"]). So I'll stick to the classic Start menu version. -- 2 -- : Copy File dialog doesn't provide useful information. Even after updating Vista to SP1, the Copy File dialog still doesn't display which file currently is copied. So when copying large files the user can't tell which file is currently copied and, thus, isn't free for use. -- 3 -- : Color Schema: Hover color is (almost) same as selection color. So it's hard to tell if an entry has been selected of if the mouse pointer is just hovering above a ListView entry in WE. -- 4 -- : Back button in WE doesn't provide a history list. So it's impossible to go back in history and skip a recently visited folder that might have become unavailable. -- 5 -- : WE and Common Dialogs are missing "Navigate to parent node" functionality.     - Internet Explorer freezes although I have a very good and fast sys Hello everyone, I have a new Toshiba laptop with 1.6 duo core and 4GB PC-5300 RAM. It is XP Media Center Edition. It is fully updated such as windows update,java, etc. It has no spyware nor virus and no messy softwares. However, when I bid in ebay, I always press F5 to refresh the page every 2 or 3 seconds so that I can bid in the last seconds. However, strangely, in the last minute internet explorer freezes and nothing responses until the auction is over. Very disappointing. It happened 2 times already. I have no problems with Opera browser. One more disappointment is I have a HTML document with 14MB size. When I open this document with IE, nothing appears in the internet explorer page (i.e, blank) and I have to end task. When I switch to open with Opera browser, no problem at all.     - Add-on box always coming up in IE 7 running Vista Each time I open IE 7 running Vista I receive a box saying that an add-on needs to be installed. When I click on either cancel or continue nothing happens and it keeps on repeating itself each time I open IE 7.     - IE7 - How to get tabbed browsing events / navigation?? I cannot figure this out for the life of me. I want to monitor where a user navigates to in IE, and I've found code that will do this beautifully for the first tab in an IE7 browser. (In IE6, the code was awesome, worked perfectly). However, I cannot seem to get it to work in any tabs that are created in the browser. This is unacceptable for the project I'm working on, so I need to be able to capture navigation on a tab as well. So, when a user opens a new window, the handle is logged, and navigation is captured through the events. On those sites to which the connection does not complete I always get just 5 blips on the progress bar and then it appears to be in some perpetual wait state with no data being transmited or received.     - Very Slow IE7 I haveVista Home Prem. Two Gigs of memory. I use Sea Monkey and of course IE7 came with Vista. My ISP is Charter and I subscribe for 5Megs download speed. My cable modem works fine as does my router. Using various bandwidth speed tests I find that Sea Monkey downloads at between 4-5 Megs (the last test was 4508KB/Sec.) IE7opening the same web page and using the same bandwidth speed test consistently downloads at 101KBSec. I have tried both direct connection to my cable modem and wireless. Same results for both.     - Links Dear Sir/Madam, I'm having difficulty using Internet Explorer 7 in that there are certain links that will not open (and these same links, incidentally will also not open in other internet browsers (e.g. Firefox)). They all appear to be links which do not have an identifiable address attached to them when one right-clicks them and selects 'Properties'. Rather, they have a brief bit of text composed mostly of the word 'javascirpt' as their URL. I'm afraid I know little of these technicalities. All I can say is that I have tried shutting down all pop-blockers and security features and, in spite of all this, clicking these links will still lead to nothing happening (occassionally not even the Windows sound attached to the opening of a new link). However in Event Viewer I'm getting this HTTPEvent error message (IE7) that was not present pre-SP1: "Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The link launches IE7 into a new tab but then provides a "Done" at the lower left without completely going into the Discussion Group. This happens if I'm not logged on and also many times when I'm logged on. It seems that once I'm logged on and I've "just been there" that the link works fine.     - Address bar and navigation bar missing. It's been missing since I upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Biz. I'm using Avant Browser in order to get an address bar.     - IE & : Continual 404 Errors Recently I started experiencing a very strange problem that I never had in the IE 6 environment. This problem occurs on both my desktop and notebook computer using Win XP SP2 and IE 7 with all the latest updates. I use ADSL to connect. However, on my wife's computer, this problem never happens. The problem: When connecting to the Website https://123.127.232.190/credit/prelogin.do I continually get a HTTP 404 Not Found error. However, using the same ISP on my friend's computer (also Win XP, IE 7) and from my office computer I can easily connect with error. Initially when connecting to the site there is a certificate error (address mismatch) which I click through because this is my bank and I know there are no problems. When I click through from the office and from my friend's, I can connect to the site. But from home and my desktop and notebook I get the 404 error. I have reset all the IE 7 parameters to the default and deleted cookies and the like. The problem still continues. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Java. Deleted all internet files and history 3. Reset All Explorer settings 4. Opened Explorer without add-ons 5. Turned off Firewall 6. Deleted Google toolbar 7.     - visited links don't stay grayed out I frequent an internet discussion board that would leave message titles grayed after I had read the message. A couple of months ago this was working fine, but the behavior has changed recently. Some titles will stay grayed out for a few days, and others may revert to their normal unread color after only a few hours. I would like the messages I have read to stay grayed out indefinitely.     - remember me my issue is when I open IE6 my ISP page opens which is my homepage, Now before last monday, 3/16/02 when I done this everything was fine, it would open to my costomized homepage without loging in. Since then I now need to login each time I open IE6 to my homepage. I am Using XP Pro sp2, and have done the following things to fix this. 1 delete all cookies and history, 2 Checked internet options content to make sure all boxes were checked (they were). 3 Did a disk clean up after deleteing cookies, 4 also a defragment. Need more help with this so I don't need to login every time I start IE6. PS. the homepage login screen does remember me but I have to click on the login box, which I never had to do before.     - IE7 Won't Open asx Files - Only Saves Them Running IE7, Vista 64 SP1 and WMP 11. IE7 won't stream .asx files (won't open WMP11 automatically for video and audio) but instead, it gives me a "Save File" option (stream.asx). I can open the saved file and then streaming works fine. I confirmed that .asx files are associated with WMP. Streaming .asx works fine in FireFox. How can I configure IE7 to open WMP? Or is this a Vista problem? Tag: How do I delete and RSS feed?     - Autofill Although not a basic part of IE7, my Google autofill used to work fine in IE 7 but now is grayed out. I checked and all the info is being remembered (name, address, Credit Card #, etc) but the Autofill icon now grayed out. I searched for a Google Newsgroup but didn't find one on my Cox news nor on MS News. Did you try right clicking it in the list of feeds and selecting Delete?
