Shortcut is still on the desk top and when I click it, I see the home page
but can't open anything, get measage "IE Cannot display the webpage

Ran diagnostic and fooled with this for two hours then realiazed that it
didn't work because the program just isn't there any more.

It's disappeared off the "All Programs" list, but "Add/Remove programs"
shows it installed at 2.94MB

C:\WINDOWS\ie7 I see six folders labeled "Spuninst" (With blue file names)
C:\WINDOWS\ie7 updates holds three folders of updates, but I don't find a
reference to IE7 Any where else.

Computer is virus free and except for myself, no one uses it. No apparent
reason for the program to leave. I would appreciate advice on where to find
it, if it's really gone, advice on how to remove the remains.

Suppose I will have to install IE6 off my disk to make a internet connection
before I can download IE 7 again, or is their a better way?

Hi,
Windows XP?

First try... Add or remove programs> Add/remove Windows components> put a
check by IE. OK your way out. Restart. If IE *is* checked, uncheck it, OK
your way out. Restart. Go back in and check IE. Restart.

With the warning that a reset will delete autocomplete data, such as
passwords and you will have to reinstall browser add-ons, work through this
article:
936213- How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213/en-us

If IE7 was installed to update IE6, uninstall IE7. IE6 should return. You
could then redownload / reinstall IE7.

Download:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/default.mspx

Follow advice at "Known issues - Installation tips - IE7"
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html when reinstalling IE7.

You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. I suggest that
you...

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

2a. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

2b. Disable all Norton Add-ons, if applicable.

3. Reinstall IE7 EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install, and using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the installation
source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

4. IMMEDIATELY go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any
critical updates offered. If a "Root Certificates" update is listed in the
Optional category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of
IE7's additional security.

Ok and thanks for the help, I tried Don Varnauâ??s suggestion first, the roll
back to IE 6 was quick and easy and temporarily fixed the problem, then my
settings began changing.

Thing would be working good when I shut it down, but when I started up next
time, my settings would be changed and I would have to reset every thing,
even the Winsock providers would be missing and diagnostic was not any help.
I fooled with it for hours, finally got an error message.

â??Marvell Yukon 8838056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller has failed.â?? That
was the sort of clue I was needing, I changed to â??Microsoft TCP/IP version 6â??
and â??Client for Microsoft Networksâ?? (Both already options) and every things
works good as new.

Tired of fooling with it now, but sorry I said all those bad things about IE
7. Will probably reload IE 7 when I get back in the mood next week.

Thanks again to both of you fellows
