I'm using IE7 .
I am the Comp Administrator and signed in as such.
I'm trying to go to
http://www.transaction-id.com/thankyou/Software/thankyou.asp?comp=multi&proid=earth
I get the Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage message and the
"Restricted Sites" tab appears at the foot of the screen.
If I pass the cursor over the "restricted Sites"tab I see "Double click to
change security settings" but I can't access it.
If I go to "Internet Options" I get the message "This operation has been
cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact
your system administrator."
Any ideas what to do?
Michael

Hi,
Either a legitimate security program (or an administrator) has locked
Internet Options, or it was done by malware.

My first suspect would be Spybot S&D ((Spybot (Advanced Mode) Tools> IE
Tweaks> Lock IE control panel)) Several other security/antispyware programs
can lock various IE options/features.

If you don't have Spybot installed, look though settings of other programs
for an option like: Lock IE control panel, Protect IE settings, etc.

This might have been done through a Group Policy. If you go to Start> Run>
(type in) gpedit.msc, does Policy Editor open? Policy Editor isn't on all
versions of XP or Vista.

Windows version?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

Thanks PA & Don

I'm running XP.

I do run Spybot & the boxes in IE Tweak were ticked. I have unticked them
but the problem persists.

Mail goes through "Checked by AVG.
Version: 7.5.523 / Virus Database: 269.23.11/1422 - Release Date: 08 May 08
5:24 PM"

I have installed: Ad-Aware; CCleaner; and Clean Up.
No third party firewalls as far as I know.

Thanks

Michael

Any other security/antispyware programs installed like Spysweeper or Spyware
blaster? Have you deliberately placed sites in Restricted Sites?

In Spybot S&D> Tools> Resident, is SD Helper or Tea Timer enabled?

Take a look in the Notification Area. Any security programs running that
you've overlooked? Check Applications and Processes in Task Manager.
Anything there?

If you aren't knowingly using Restricted Sites or Trusted Sites, go to
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/restricted.htm scroll down to "To remove all the
sites listed in the Restricted Zone" download and run DelDomains.inf to
clear out all zones.

These problems may have been caused by malware.
