    - Error message with NEW install of IE7! Just tried to speak to Technical, but they cut me off after I jumped through ALL the hoops! Anyway, situation is this, I tried to bring a previous install to this PC via a slave drive from my old PC. Realised this would not work (Didn't have the correct authority?) so downloaded IE7 to make sure all was up to date (RE-Installing IE7 supposedly rids system of old setup?) And am now getting the SAME error message. IE "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."     - IE7 asks for authentication for INTERNET sites only - after smartcard I have a user who is testing smartcard access and after he initially logged into Vista with a smartcard he is constantly asked to authenticate when accessing any external web site. I am using IE7 and MS Proxy server. I am guessing this is a NTLM/ Kerberose issue but I can find no settings in IE7 which look wrong. I am assuming the smartcard authentication broke something but I don't know. This problem exists now if he logs in with or without a smartcard on that machine. I now need to get it working on another box which is running I.E 7 and I can't see what setting it could be. You can't even manually refresh the page to get it to update.     - IE7 TIF missing name attribute even though shows as selected, but greyed out. Recently my TIF (C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files) has stopped showing the name attribute. The folder options are set to show all system files. When I check the properties of the TIF folder it show the Attributes check box as ticked but greyed out. When I right click on the headings of the file explorer window of the TIF folder it shows the File Name attribute as ticked but greyed out, and the file names cannot be seen in the window. What's up?     - Add blocker Question I just downloaded IE7 and it works fine. Popup-blocker works but there is no add-blocker like the Mozilla add-on that blocks annoying adds all over the webpage. Is there a simple add-blocker for IE7? I looked into IE7ProSetup but it looked too confusing, too techy and had too many bells and whistles. It was mind boggling.     - IE7 has encountered an error I have no problems with IE7 until I try to login to myspace. After I have logged in the infamous "an error has ocurred..." message pops up.     - Internet Explorer 7 A few days ago, Internet Explorer 7 stopped working. I tried the "NetworkDiagnostics for Window's XP" and received the following message: "Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP.     - PowerPoint 2003 Crashes when I install IE7 When I install IE7 on my computer at work with XP professional and I try to start PowerPoint 2003 it crashes without any error message, If I try again a message "Do you want to start PP in save mode?"     - Windows nag screen Every time I boot, whether from a cold start or from "Hibernate", I get a screen telling me to install WindowsXP. In the task bar area a text box appears saying I had denied the "First home page".     - Cache not being accessed. I don't know whether this is the appropriate group for this... I have web pages that have various components (gif,js,htc files) that do not change that often. What I do is set the src for a file appended with the date and time of it's creation on the server. For example: <script language=jscript src='navigate.js?20080818204150'></script> This should allow me to simply change the date time in the web page when the page is generated to tell Internet Explorer that a new version needs to be downloaded as it is different to the one cached. What I am finding though is that the temporary Internet Files shows the file as being cached, but IE downloads it every time anyway. This is despite the fact that I have 'Check for newer versions of stored pages' = Automatically in my Internet options. The only thing I can think of is that because I force IE to NOT cache the actual page (because the content changes), that that somehow implies that all the components within the page should not be cached as well?     - Adware / Malware Problem I have a problem similar to many posted here but would like to find more information on solutions. About two weeks ago my IE 7 (Win XP SP2 and now SP3) begain displaying the following symptoms: 1. Starts about 1/3 of the time with no title, menu, url bar but does go to my home page. 2. About 1/4 of the time it spawns a new window is automatically generated pointing to some commercial site. In addition, it seems that if I do a search on anything like "virus", "adware", or navigate to Microsoft I get a new window touting system security tools. I have repeatedly run my AV program, Windows Defender, and the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. The first two have been run in regular and safe mode with full scans. No issues are ever reported. I have seen some useful replies including Mr. Saunders' regular response listing several sites with tools for this kind of issue. I worry, though, about the reliability of any 3d party tool. How can I know which ones can be trusted and likely to be effective? I don't mind paying for a product but I don't want to do so unless I can be pretty sure it will solve the problem. And what is in it for the providers of free scanning software?     - IE 7.0-Favorites folder bugs I just recently purchased Windows Vista SP1 w/IE7.0.6001.18000 and have already found an old IE bug as well as a new one. The old bug I have noticed about IE is the sorting issue with folders and URL files in the favorites folder. IE does/has not ever sorted the favorites folder in alphabetical order and this must be done manually. Whenever a new folder or URL is added to favorites, it automatically is put at the bottom of the list. If a specific folder/URL order is desired, it must always be done manually. Personally, I would like to see Microsoft add an "alphabetical sort" option in the "Organize Favorties" menu. The new bug I have found with IE7.0 is with addition of URL's in favorite's sub-folders when the sub-folder has a read-only attribute. I went to a new website, clicked on "Favorites -> Add to Favorites", selected a sub-folder to add the URL to, and IE gave me and "Unspecified Error."     - Strange website problem Hi, We are running Windows XP Sp2 with a mix of IE 6 and 7. If our users try to use a particular website to search for hotels, they enter their search options, then hit search, some get the results page up ok, some get kicked back to the web login page. Nothing is logged in any event viewer log. All are going out directly to the internet via a 3rd party firewall, if we use Firefox then the search works, but the page isn't written for Firefox and using a 3rd party browser is not really the preferred option anyway.     - Antivirus websites blocked Hi all, I had a bad trojan/virus on my PC, but I manged to get rid of it at last. It was Vista Antivirus 2008. Anyway - now my XP (Home Edition) works quite OK, except one thing - almost all web sites related to antivirus software or system security are blocked somehow. For example I can't open Microsoft Update website at all, AVG website, Super AntiSpyware website, and few others. I don't think it's web browser problem (I tried to do it in Firefox as well - no change). Also my AVG Antivirus can't connect to server to download updated virus database. Running I.E. 6 and 7 I have a couple internal databases that require logins on different ips on our internal network for example 12.10.x.x would be one if I type the ip into the internet explorer address bar IE" http://12.10.x.x It gives me error 400 bad request. My IE 7.0 isn't working like it should (see my previous post about not being
able to open files "Save Only"), I verified this by having my niece try to
open files and it works fine for her, so we compared all of our settings and
my settings match hers, so why can she open files and I can't? Opera and
Firefox opens files just fine, so the only thing I can think of is that
there is something wrong with my IE, can I install 7.0 over the top of my
existing installation? I'm using 7.0 that was installed when I upgraded to
Vista.

Always reply to your original thread (where you tell us that you're running
Vista).

No, you cannot "replace" IE7 in Vista. You can, however, learn about the
Vista features User Account Control (UAC) and Protected Mode.
