I am using Internet Explorer 7 on Vista Home Premium SP1

On some web pages, when I do a search for text, I get this error
message:-

An error has occurred in this dialog

Error: 136
`doc2.selection' is null or not an object

This has been happening from *before* I installed SP1

One such page is:-

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1218572/

No error when using Forefox.

No error when searching the main IMDB page.

Any explanations or fixes?

Hi Stubbo (from Dubbo?)

I presume you mean the Find on Page dialog?

I cannot reproduce the error on the page that you provided.

Can you provide more details. Exactly which steps to follow to reproduce the
error.

Have you tried this while running IE7 in no-Addons mode. Start>(All)
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (no Addons)

Regards.

Hi,

Also, try navigating to the page with your popup blocker switched on.

Regards.

Yes

Open IE, navigate to the page then press CTRL-F and enter search
string.

I have now and still get the error. Also get error regardless of
whether pop-up blocker is on or off.

Very strange!

Hi,

I can't reproduce the error. Do you highlight a word on the page and then
press F3? I tried this also but without errors. Maybe it has something to do
with the text you have selected. (Unicode characters?)

You may want to in this instance try the improved IE7 Text Search that is
included with the IE7Pro Addon - http://www.ie7pro.com

or the only other thing that I can think of is a hawked install of IE7 which
you should be able to repair by re-installing Ie7.

Regards.

No, not usually.

No - I just enter plain text from keyboard into search box

Thanks for that reference - I installed it and the search function it
uses works just fine with the problem URLs so I will keep using it. I
haven't explored it fully yet but it looks great!!

Are you using Xp or Vista? This problem is on Vista. I tried my wife's
older XP machine and that give no problem searching the URL that I
have problems with! Weird!!

IE 7 seems to come integrated with Vista and I can't yet find any way
to do a repair on Vista or IE7 :-(

Thanks again for you help

Cheers ..............
