Greetings,

I just found that I can't post in these newsgroups using IE7. I can browse
and read fin, but trying to reply or post a new topic just bounces me to the
Live passport login page or just "refreshes" the screen.

Firefox seems to work fine though, which just makes this all the more
amusing when you think about it :)

Yes, you need to sign in with a Passport/Windows Live ID to post to
msnews.microsoft .com from IE.

Why use a browser at all?
Setting up Outlook Express/Windows Mail to access Microsoft newsgroups

I am well aware of the fact I need a Passport/Live ID, otherwise I would not
have been able to make this post in the first place. That is not the issue I
was reporting.

My point is that it doesn't work from IE7, but works fine from Firefox. It
was working a few weeks back so something has obviously changed, and I'm not
the only one reporting having this problem.

I am also not asking for "alternative" methods to read the newsgroups. I am
not interested with being fed every post that is made, so I don't want a
whole newsfeed. The ability to read them using a browser is supposed to be
available yet posting using IE7 isn't working.

I should also mention that this is the same for me on the MS Partner
newsgroups as well. I know there have been some changes and restructures
going on so perhaps there is some issue with cookies or something.

The links in notification emails I get about post replies also just open to
a blank page when IE7 opens them, but if I paste them into Firefox they open
fine.

This is not an IE7 vs Firefox point (which I never bother using anyway) ,
simply noting that IE7 seems to be the one not working anymore.

What you don't understand is that the web interface IS the alternative, the
real most reliable and quickest way to get here is through a newsgroup
reader (OE, Windows Live Mail, etc).

The web interface has always been wonky, no matter which browser you use.

Since you have found other reports it is strange that you haven't found other solutions. ; ]

The symptom is usually caused by stale Cookies and bad coding on the MS websites.
Often you can work around the (incomplete redirect) symptom simply by pressing F5.

Otherwise you may have more than one problem, probably due to a misconfigured
popup stopper.
