using contacts folder as address book

i just switched to vista and imported all of my contacts from the previous
version of outlook. now, when i draft a new email and click the "To" button
in order to insert contacts to send the email to, i get the "select names"
box but it does not have my contacts folder as an address book. how do i
import my contacts folder so that i can use them?

Never import when transferring data from one Outlook to another. It's not
needed and you lose data. If the following doesn't help, you'll need to
create a new mail profile.

It is crazy that creat a new profile but not import.
Because lots of users have hundreds items in the contacts.
It is impossible to type in one by one.
The problem is you can see your contacts in "contacts" folder but find
nothing in address book, after imported ".pst" file.
(If we manually add a new contact with email adress in the "contacts"
folder, the adress book can appear this new contact.)
It happens when we re-install windows or update outlook from 2003 to 2007.
And the problem can not be resolve by now!

The help web page you offered give a not so correct message:
Click "Tools" - "Account Setting" - "Address Book" tab. In there my Outlook
Address Book is listed, BUT THE "Close" BUTTON IS GREY, CAN NOT BE CLOSE!
Of cause I had try to click "Change...", then "delete Address Book". restart
Outlook. And follow the suggest steps. Final, nothing happens.
(So many wrongly written character in the help web page.)

And I try to creat a new folder of contacts, then copy a item, the item has
a email address, from the primary Contacts folder to this new folder. But
Address Book still can not apear it. -- Of cause I had click the new folder
name under the subcategories of Address Book.

I hopes you can refer this problem to your development department.

In fact the problem is not cause by a interrupting of importing ".pst" file!
Because:
1. I install a new windows and outlook 2007, then synchronize contacts with
my windows mobile phone. The problem occur.
2. I had said, if we create a new folder of contacts, then copy even only
one item from the primary Contacts folder to this new folder. The problem
happens.

A solution:
Open a contact item, click the container of email address, save and close.
Then this item can be displayed in the Address Book.
I has to do this action hundreds of times, one by one!

Reason:
The Address Book will never search WHOLE Contacts Folders and synchronize it.
Only when you activate and make a "changes" of a contact item, or add a new
item, the Address Book would synchronize only this contact item at this time.

Mistake:
For security, the default folder deletion is forbidden.
But without deletion, how can the Address Book import the whole Contacts
Folder again?

Note:
I had NOT Exchange email address, so I had only Outlook Address Book and
Mobile Phone Address Book can be selected. -That's why I cannot delete?

Wishes:
Next patch of Outlook 2007 can resolve this problem.

You missed the point completely. You can easily transfer your Contacts by
simply using the same data file or copying them from your previous data
file. You simply don't import them. Importing has never been the correct way
to transfer Outlook data.

We have also documented countless times that Outlook 2007 contains a bug
that does not permit the user to remove and re-add the Outlook Address Book
Service. That bug was reported in the beta. I have no expectation that it
will be fixed. I have no expectation that Help files are 100% accurate. The
workaround is simply to create a new Outlook profile.

Wrong again. The cause was indeed importing your Contacts. Importing
Contacts leaves electronic addresses unresolved so they will not appear in
the address book view. Opening and saving a Contact will resolve the
addresses again. It is not necessary to do so however when you transfer data
correctly.
