I have recently imported outllook contacts from my work computer to my home
computer. Now, when I enter new contacts, it places them after the imported
contacts. It appears that the imported contacts are in a group of their own,
so when I choose a letter for alpha sorting, it does not include my imported
contacts, only my new ones.

Importing is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data. We have no idea
what you did nor what problem you are having. Your description is too vague.
You didn't even specify your Outlook version nor the view to which you are
referring.
