    - Duplicated names appear when adding members to a DL Hi there, I try to create a DL on Outlook and select members from my Contacts. I see some names appear twice. One of them is with the e-mail type as Fax. Because the list is huge and I don't want to waste time to select the names one by one to skip the Fax type entries.     - missing distribution list I deleted one member of a distribution list and lost the whole list. Have read others' accounts of this, but can't seem to restore. The list does not show up in my deleted folder. I have backup .pst from a few days before. Start Outlook, go to file/open/outlook data file. Navigate to my backup file. Its modified date/time is right now (why?). Select anyway, a pause, screen looks the same, have today's email and no list. Either the backup didn't really open or somehow did another backup just now.     - How to Update Outlook 2007 Activities in ACT2008 I have tried everything to get Outlook 2007 e-mails to create a history in ACT2008. I have also tried the Outlook Activities from the Tools Menu Bar in ACT and it doesn't appear to do it. I was sure it did before and I don't know where else to look. I have tried every Help message to try and find it but to no avale. Can anyone help me out as I am coping my notes from the e-mail plus attachments if any to the History location in act each time I send something but that gets very time consuming and if I forget to it doesn't help me when I need to get a history on what I sent to a particular contact. I work in a small company and work in sales so I am not in my office a lot and do most of my work from my car and no one else to turn to since I am the only one who uses ACT Software.     - Instant Search not working and Outlook indexing never completes I attempt to search for a particular Contact entry. A message is displayed "Instant Search encountered a problem while trying to display search results. Modifying your query may resolve this problem." I clicked OK on the message box and a highlighted message appeared across the top of the Contacts pane "Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. Click here for more details." When I click on the message, another info box appears titled: "Outlook is currently indexing your items. Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed" , "xxxx items remaing in "Personal" folders" and "xxxx items remaining across all open mailboxes". The xxxx is a number that is always different each time I look at it (sometimes a large number, sometimes small), but never zero, and never trending in one direction or another...almost like the indexing process is in an unending loop that never comes to completion. When I click START, then CONTROL PANEL, then INDEXING OPTIONS, it says Indexing is not running. I have XP on my laptop, I'm running Outlook 2007. Help please. The solution from the MS site said to exchange signed emails and save the person's name to Contacts; however when we try that we get the message that the contact folder can't be found.     - Why no more (+) plus sign to expand distribution lists? All of a sudden Outlook 2007 is messing up. When I add a distribution list to an email, I can no longer expand it. the plus (+) sign has totally disappeared next to it. Furthermore, although my settings haven't changed, the only way I can send and receive emails is to hit the send adn receive button. So when I make an email and hit send - it goes to the outbox.     - Preventing Contacts removed from Outlook address book from I have removed many old contacts from my Outlook address book but they continue to pop up on auto-fill when I'm trying to type in a similar name even though they no longer appear in the address book. For example, I may have removed "Fred Smith" from my address book months ago and have not typed in his name since then.     - Importing contacts into Exchange have Outlook 2003 which I use to POP email from my provider into my private folders. I also have contacts and calendar entries. I use Wireless Sync to sync it all up with my Treo running Windows Mobile. I want to upgrade from POP to Exchange service with my provider (hostway.com).     - Outlook 2003 Contacts & Address Book I have had been using Outlook Express for many years and now have started using Outlook 2003 for just my business emails. I have 2 questions here. First, in the "folder list", why do I have 2 folders called "Personal Folders", both with the identical folders underneath? When I click on "contact" in either of these trees, it seems they are identical. When I click on the "Contact" button in my shortcut list, there are 2 items listed in "my contacts" favorites: One is called "Contacts" the other "Contacts in Personal Folders". I'm confused why this is duplicated. This may have something to do with the next problem. When I open a new email window and click "To:", I get the following error message: The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permission...." (I am not working on a server, it is my personal computer and I have Windows XP Media Edition. ) However, if I click "ok", it brings up an empty Address Book and if I click on "Show Names from the:" I get a drop-down menu that allows me to choose from: Outlook Address Book, Contacts or again, Contacts! It is defaulted to one called Contacts so if I click on the other it then brings up the list of all my contacts correctly! I would appreciate any help, this is driving me crazy.     - Outlook 2007 - Phone Number Display In Contacts We have an interesting outlook contact phone number display issue. We have programmed our Phone and Modem settings to include rules for phone number prefixes within our area code that require long distance information. (1+areacode) When adding a new contact everything displays great. For example.... 1 (999) 999-9999 Etc... Existing contacts before the rules however, still display as either (999) 999-9999 or worse 999-9999. Opening the contact and clicking the phone number button fixes it, but with some users having hundreds-thousands of contacts that is kind of an un-reasonable approach. All contacts are stored in Exchange as the back-end. Funny note: If you click the "dial" button, the number dials correctly even though the display is wrong. Is there a way to have the contacts DISPLAY properly without having the users edit each one? Will export, delete all, import work? What are the chances for data loss doing that?     - Import from Excel to Outlook Having duly searched the "microsoft.public.outlook.contacts" archive I made minimally successful attempt to import an Excel format data base (.xlt) but only the "business street" field was imported all other fields were blank. I used Excel and Outlook both 2000. 1. First I named each column in the spread sheet with the exact default names used in Outlook. 2. Then ran the Outlook import wizard 3. Verified that the import fields were matched with the ones in Outlook 4. Ran the import process. After a long period of time the process finished with no reported errors (2000 contacts each with 30 fields). Where did all the data go. I have drilled on View settings but to no joy. I had previously tried this with a customize form and concluded I could not import into it successfully. I then uninstalled Outlook to clear any bad effects from the failed attempt and reinstalled Outlook. But the new installation still had evidence of the failed effort. So I do not know if this is what is preventing the successful importation. At the least I would like to know (short of formatting the HD) how to get a clean install of Outlook. When I right click on a contact or try to delete a contact, windows explorer
shuts down and restarts. The only way I can delete a contact is to drag it
to recycle bin.
