If I enter "John Smith, M.D." as the full name, then the 'File as" field displays by first name rather than last name, and the e-mail "Display as" field shows "M.D. John Smith," which makes it next to impossible to find the name when I am creating a new e-mail. If I omit the comma (for a single designation), the "Display as" field still does not file by last name but by first name.     - Form Design for Contact First Page Is there a training class (not online) that anyone knows of to learn how to do Forms in Outlook 2007. All I want to do is change the first page of the Contacts Form so that the notes are on the bottom, as they were before 2003. I also want all my new Contacts and all my existing Contacts to change to the new format (with Notes on the bottom, not on the side). That narrow area of Notes on the side of the page is driving me absolutely CRAZY! I have checked these newsgroups and have seen a lot of people asking about how to make form changes. The answers are in dribs and drabs, and NOT very detailed. I am not a programmer. However, I can follow directions if they are spelled out in DETAIL. For example, if you say Publish the Form, you have to give the steps of where, when and how to Publish a Form. Like I said, I can follow step by step directions very easily, as long as all the steps are there. All I have to do is see the info in DETAIL once, and I will understand how to do the process. But I want a complete process in one place. Some of the steps online are a little confusing because they have links that send me all over the place, and I usually lose where I started. It is way too confusing. Is there someone or someplace that I can easily learn the steps to change the first page of the Contact Form so that the Notes section is on the bottom of the form, and not on the side?     - Recover contacts from corrupt pst file I'm in a bit of a crisis. After upgrading to Vista x64, I'm attempting to import my old .pst file into Outlook 2007. I'm told that the .pst is corrupt and that I should run scanpst.exe to repair it. I found scanpst.exe and ran it, and I get an error message "An error occurred which caused the scan to be stopped. No changes have been made to the scanned file." This happens for both my regular and backup .pst files. I've scanned the pst files with the demo versions of commercial data recovery products, and the data are there. But I'd rather not pay $250 to recover my address book.     - Usefulness of shared contacts I have a setup where we want to keep a corporate contact list available to all users (but maintained centrally - users only need read access). So we have a specific account that "owns" the global contact list, and have shared that user's contact list. Other users can successfully see and access this shared list in Outlook 2003 by going to Other Contacts, clicking on the "master" user's name, and their contacts are then displayed. From here it's possible to right- click and choose "new message", "new appointment", "new meeting" and "new task" - so far, so good, and exactly what we need. However, suppose our user wants to send an email to TWO of the shared contacts; they can start as above by choosing "new message", but if they now click "Cc..." to add another of the shared contacts, they can't find them. They don't appear in the "Global Address List", nor under "Contacts", nor "All address lists", nor "Public folders". Even if they type in a valid name for one of the contacts directly into the CC box, it won't validate and expand to the email address from the master contact list. The way it is at present, sharing contacts is at best very long winded (involving cutting and pasting of email addresses) and at worst useless. I've reinstalled Office with the install files on the hard drive. The problem I'm having now, I can't use the Outlook Contacts in outbound emails. I can only use my PST Contacts. I can add new contacts to the Outlook Contacts, but can't see them in the new outbound emails.     - Outlook Address Book Won't Show Contacts I have thoroughly reviewed, and tried, the various suggestions posted here, and elsewhere in the Windows Community, for solving this problem. Nothing has worked so far. On a new machine, using VISTA and Outlook 2007, I used Windows Easy Transfer to copy files from Windows XP & Outlook 2007. The new Outlook Address Book (OAB) does not recognize the contacts information in the .pst file. On the first try at transfer, the mail, tasks, and calendar info copied successfully, and worked fine, but the Contacts info did not display. Based on advice elsewhere on this forum, I concluded that the Contacts file was probably in the wrong format, from being copied over from prior versions of Office. I changed that as instructed, prepared a temporary .pst file, copied that to the new machine, then cust & pasted that data from the temp .pst Contacts display into the default .pst Contacts display. That process brought all of my contacts into Outlook 2007 and in that location, the contact data is all useable. (For example, from any contact card, I can create a new mail message and the email address opens in a new message box.) But, I still cannot open a new message and select an address from the OAB. It is blank. In Mail > File > Data File Management > Address Books Tab, the OAB is displayed. However, it does not list itself when Change is clicked. In Contacts > Properties > OAB tab, the "Show this folder as an OAB" is grayed out. Research here took me to this page: Contacts are not available in the Address Book http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/contactsinaddressbook.htm This page accurately describes the problem, and ends with the advice to "recreate your mail profile," because the OAB service is corrupted.     - Outlook 2007 SP1 creating contact(s) automatically I've read numerous posts that say Outlook does not and cannot automatically create a contact. However, it IS happening. Every day, there are a few contacts added to my contacts folder that I did not specifically add. The only common denominator is that I received an e-mail from these folks. It is never necessary nor advisable to turn off autoresolution. Provide
clear reasons you think you need to, including some actual information like
your Outlook version, mail transport, and a real description of the problem
you are having.

If the address is one you have simply typed into the recipient field and it
is a correctly formatted Internet address (i.e., name@domain), Outlook will
resolve it without stating "name not found".
